Founder and spiritual director of Ligmincha International, Geshe Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche is a respected and beloved teacher and meditation master in the Bön Buddhist tradition of Tibet. First thing I had to learn, as a birth worker was addressed 3 minutes in: a birthing parent will not go into a productive labor, until they are willing to give themselves and the baby permission to die. We truly cannot live, until we have died.

The beginning is interesting. When I sometimes run into people who are still attached to the memory of a spouse who has been dead for, at least in one case, longer than the couple was married, I feel kind of sad. They have effectively blocked themselves from happiness with someone else because they are stuck on the memory of a long-dead spouse. Unfortunately, due to cultural norms, these are disproportionately women, because the idea of the chaste widow who spends the rest of her life grieving for her husband is one that has only recently started dissipating. It's more than a universal issue, it's cultural too.
