Choosing an electric unicycle isn’t always an easy task, so that’s why Ian wanted to help with making a quick guide to help people make a decision, especially first time buyers. These are the 10 main questions you want to ask yourself before you commit to purchasing a wheel:
1. Range?
2. Terrain?
3. Rider weight?
4. Commuting or just fun?
5. Carrying the EUC?
6. Pushing the EUC?
7. Do you want speed?
8. Budget?
9. Riding all year round?
10. Experienced rider or a novice?
After you have answered these questions then you would have narrowed down your choice to only a few wheels so the best thing to do now is watch different video reviews of the electric unicycles. We have reviewed the majority of wheels we sell so you can have a look at those videos. Our reviews are honest and balanced because we have tried a huge variety of brands and models, not only that but on our website you can have a look at our customer reviews and then make up your mind about which is the right wheel for you.

Woo hoo! This is the video I’ve been waiting for! The 10 questions are great and well thought out. I have a suggestion though... Would you be able to put on your website a comparison table detailing the specifics of each wheel in relation to the ten questions where applicable... For example Range, tyre size/width/depth, charge time, fast charge option/time, foot plate height, skill level (eg. beginner-intermediate, intermediate-expert etc.), carry handle, cut off switch, lights and so on. Like I say the 10 questions are perfect but I have really struggled to find a genuinely useful and comprehensive comparison table on line.. Hopping between websites and videos trying to glean useful info and make balanced decisions is, at the moment, the only option... and it’s a pain in the backside! I’m not saying list endless stats and figures just this type of thing as a useful buyers guide in conjunction with the questions.. No criticism, just a thought. Another great video...love the Chanel. Keep up the good work!

Hi Ian. One question that comes to my mind which I would like ask, which wasn't covered in your list is what wheels are the most friendly to do owner self maintenance on? From my own experience I'm thinking puncture repair/tyre replacement and maybe swapping out a light, a speaker, a bearing, a battery or a board? As previously discussed the V10 was a bit of a pig to take apart for a puncture repair first time around. It would be great to see manufacturers thinking about puncture repair for example and making the task relatively easy and quick for your average owner/rider. Are some wheels more of a pain to work on than others or do they all have their challenges? A quick release wheel with a removable spindle similar to that on your average motorcycle combined with quick release cable connectors would be awesome.

Another factor is the routine. If you make the same trip daily or nearly so and electricity and security is available, then a second charger is useful to leave there to charge while you are at work or wherever there happens to be. For the last mile people, a charging locker at the train or bus station would be nice. Unfortunately, that won't happen until the battery safety issue is fixed.

Thanks for all this great info. This is very helpful! I'm curious if height makes any difference for a first wheel? I am 6' 7" (2 meters) and 210 lbs (without a backpack). If I am looking for a first wheel, what is the minimum size/power I should be looking at if wanting to do onroad and offroad and a 14 mile commute (each way)?

Nice overview. Perhaps the next video could be on EUC's in general - an explanation of what they are, what they are capable of, why they are better than scooters / one wheels etc. It would be a video we could show to people who have never heard of them, or people who have seen one wizz by in the street and want to find out more.

Very thorough analysis and backed up by years of experience and commitment to the format. All prospects should be made to watch this! There is nothing in this that isn't totally valid. As an 'urban-ish' rider I would add that I don't think I've EVER ridden anywhere where I haven't needed a trolley handle. Even on the longer recreational rides at weekends, there is usually a requirement to push it round at some point. This becomes instantly difficult if your wheel doesn't have one, so it's pretty high up on my list. I'd go as far as to say, if EUCs had MOTs, a faulty or missing trolley handle should be an instant fail! In my experience I'd also say that having a smaller, cheaper wheel to learn on that may end up getting smashed about a bit is no bad thing. I bought a bigger wheel once I was competent enough to handle it, but I then found my 'learner' wheel (an Inmotion V5F) has continued to have a whole range of uses due to it's relative lightness and portability. This enables me to ride every day, even though I'm a bit too far away from work to commute on an EUC. New wheelers and upgraders - watch this video and you shouldn't go far wrong!

I love my Inmotion V8 very much. It's robust, looks cool, have a pretty decent range, goes a decent speed for driving around in town and I take it on the train for commuting, so it's weight at around 13 kg and medium size makes it easy to lug up and down stairs and keep with me in the train. Also it feels so good to ride on it. ...I have been eyeballing that KS16X for a while though.... Might turn into my thing on the side. XD

The only thing to watch out for is NEVER charge a Li-ion battery if it's below 0C. Otherwise cold temperatures have no permanent effect on the battery.

Depends on the position I guess, it can be considered cheap (depending on model) when compared to a emtb or expensive if someone looking things there are a couple of hundred quid. I get that quite a lot from those just curious as to what they are - they think its will be 'hoverboard' money - i.e. £200...but are shocked when I say anything from £600 upwards
