But before I get into those tips, I'm going to convince you that if you have eyes and legs that work, an electric unicycle needs to be your next purchase.

Even though I spent over 6 months making this video, I still forgot to mention a few things! One thing I missed that is important is how long each step usually takes:
Step 1 “The Pole”: 15 -90 minutes (don’t skip ahead! It actually goes faster if you wait. You can even advance faster if you spread this out over several days so your body can sleep on it)
Step 2 “Dismounting”: 5 -15 minutes
Step 3 “Lasting 8 seconds”: 15 - 60 minutes to get riding (Months to master - small windows of riding more often is better than long windows of working at it. Remember that it is all about implicit learning so let your mind sleep on it… A LOT)
Step 4 “Free Mounting”: 15 minutes (I recommend waiting until you have been riding for over a week)
Step 5 “Avoid Wobble”: Only takes a second, but requires being comfortable on your wheel. The better you are, the easier it is.
Step 6 “Tighter Circles”: You should only need to do this for 30-60 minutes, but it is ideal to split that up over days.
Step 7 “Advancing to Slow”: 5-15 hours lol! Just do a couple minutes at a time each time you ride. It will take a long time to get good at going really slow.
Step 8 “Offroading”: This really depends on the size of your wheel, but generally a rider can deal with up to a 3in bump within a month of riding if they are riding a few times a week.
Step 9 “Mastering the EUC”: Even though I saw my friend doing it daily (he already had his for 2 years), the idea of carrying things was unthinkable for the longest time. But over time, I started carrying bigger and bigger things until one day, I realized that I can carry much more on my EUC than I can even walking slow because my body doesn’t have to shift while I move. Don’t try to force this. It will come with time.

Fastest way to learn a unicycle. "here's $100 bro, go to the liquor store but you HAVE to ride the euc. Hurry up, the girls are waiting....." If you're too young to go to the liquor store but have an euc, you're too spoiled anyhow. Thanks for the vid, good stuff! So many good point. The fun of merely teetering and going nowhere is definitely profound. Fast, slow, with purpose, pointless, man I love the euc. My mten is my car's spare tire . Looking forward to your advanced tutorial!

Thank you for posting this! I am waiting for my first wheel, a V5f ordered from EUCO. I am 52 years old and learned to ride a hoverboard in my home almost a year ago, and soon ran into Wrong Way on youtube and got hooked on the idea of getting the electric unicycle- I have experienced much of the joy riding the hoverboard that you describe with the unicycle and I am excited to learn mine when it gets here. Thanks again.

I have been riding onewheels since covid for about 4 years but I would love to have both PEVs. The range on these things is crazy and you're right the usage on these things is unbelievable.

This video is wonderful and full of great tips. I'll be thinking of this video tonight when I go to a park and practice more. I rode for the first time yesterday. In the 30 minutes I tried to ride in my own yard, the thing that I noticed which helped me - and that I haven't seen in any video I've seen yet - is this: When I FIRST started trying to ride, I kept looking down at the wheel and I could not keep it straight for longer than about a foot. Through no conscious effort, at one point I happened to look up from the ground and off into the distance where I wanted to go. I was immediately able to (more than barely) ride the wheel and made it around my house twice, which would be a ride of a few hundred feet. Be sure that I still fell and am still working on finding my balance but looking off into the distance made an immediate change for the better. In real time, when I looked off in the distance, my wife yelled at me that she could see an instant improvement in my ability to stay upright. heard her yelling it behind me in the distance :). It is still hard to ride it (with only 30-45 minutes of experience) but that one small thing (looking where I wanted to go) REALLY helped. I think it was just an autonomic response for me to look down at the machine while riding it. However, during that ride around my house, I felt like I was flying and my wife even noticed how much fun I was having. These things are quite amazing! And you are right: The rider is 'always falling' which goes against everything my brain and is something I did not consider until seeing this video. Once I figure that part out, I'm sure I'll be able to ride better and longer. Cheers and, again, wonderful video!!!

@KirbySwinemar 3 года назад
Great video and tips - these machines are life changing - purchased a Gotway Nikola 100v wheel a little over a month ago ... comfortable now ... has all the speed and range I'll ever need .. it's waterproof .. has RGB lighting and bluetooth speakers ... man what a rush crusing the neighbourhood at 15-20 mph with tunes coming out of the wheel ... like a jetpack between your legs .. i wear bike helmet, wrist and knee guards and waiting for gloves to arrive as I play and teach guitar and cant damage the hands in the event of a bad fall. Need to work on trail and dirt road riding ... very diff than sidewalk and paved bike path riding for sure.

Thanks!! And yes! The jetpack is a great analogy
@arkadyromanov7803

Wrong about the helmet. You should always use a full face helmet as most accidents with head strikes hit with face/jaw first and a basic bike helmet won't do much. You're not pedalling a bike so helmet fatigue is less of a thing. Other than that, excellent video.
@naaspam1185
@naaspam1185 Год назад
Exactly. This guy's advice on safety is the worst I've seen. As to helmet, one guy on social media was casually riding his EUC around his neighborhood at slow speeds on sidewalks, hit a speed bump and face planted. Broke out all his front teeth, broke his jaw, and needed major reconstructive surgery. All because he was overconfident. Also amazed he's riding around without wrist guards, knee protection, elbow protection, and was even carrying his unprotected children around. Sure, he may feel pretty stable, but damn, one mistake and he could seriously hurt someone. His advice about driving against the flow of traffic, and some of the shenanigans he got up to riding against oncoming traffic without a shoulder. Just no. People should ride with traffic to give cars more time to see you, and so that when cars turn out in front of you, they're looking in your direction as they would normally to check for oncoming cars. Same for cars that are coming from behind you and need to make a right turn, they'll see you, whereas they may not see someone coming from the other direction.

I did that all morning today. Really increased my confidence level. Plus your entertaining! Thanks for taking the time to put this out there in an easy to understand manner and being fun to watch at the same time. ( bathroom trip )lol. Take care. Jeff.

Hi! Seven months on, how do find the Tesla 3? I'm particularly interested in whether the width of the vehicle is an issue (T3 is a wide boy). Curious as to how comfortable the relatively wide-stance is... and whether it aids with stability.

Have gotten 20 miles on rides w good voltage left. I like t stock tire. Good all around tread pattern. Im 225 and it easily powers me up steep inclines w no issues. Amazing actually. Very happy w it. I've noticed getting wheel wobble, but only since I've gotten a bigger and heavier wheel (Ninebot One vs KingSong 16X), I guess it's just a matter of riding more and getting used to it. Great video by the way, wish I had seen this when I was first learning. Thanks!

While it isn't an EUC, I did just get an ebike. It has completely changed my life. Looking into EUCs now!

if you get an EUC, please please please message me and tell me how the two compare. The EUC obviously takes some extra time to get good at, but I think you will find it's size and efficiency worth it

@@JCFRU-vid The one difference I see right away between an ebike and an EUC is basically cargo capacity. I like the range and portability of EUCs, but they're not great for say, grocery shopping. Also, a good EUC can cost as much or more than a good elite. The third concern is that if an ebike runs out of juice, you can still pedal it. Not trying to knock EUCs, they look awesome! If I can manage to gather the money, I will definitely get one. I think you're right, they would be epic for The Bone.

Nice video! I love everything you covered, great suggestions and tips. The only thing I disagree with is safety gears while riding on pavement, unless you don’t value any part of your skin, face, or breaking your wrist, even at a slow speed.

Agree, Jim Chow. You never know when a fall can happen. And they will happen, no matter how good you are. The wheel can cut out and when you fall, your hands break the fall. My wheel cut out and had I not been wearing good gloves and wrist guards, it would have been very bad news. Even with the gear, my elbow was slightly injured for an entire year. But lecture about safety gear aside, this was a good video that I wish was available before I started riding several years ago.

A very good and informative video..much enjoyed even though I learned…on grass, a couple of years ago. ….One thing though. The pressure indicated on the sidewall of a tyre is the Maximum Cold Inflation pressure, it is not the recommended operating pressure. The operating pressure will be given in the owner handbook of your wheel. 👍

Everyone will learn at a different pace. On my first session, I used a rail and got some advice to keep steering left and right instead of trying to go straight. It was hot out, so I only did a 20 minute session. Later that day, I went to a tennis court, spent about 4 minutes using the fence, then veered away from the fence, using arm flailing | yaw steering to steer in direction of fall, and I did about 30 second rides for 1 lap at at time around the tennis court at around 4 to 5 mph, after only 25 minutes total time on an EUC, again it was a short 20 minute session. The next day, I was doing 3 laps at a time, and decided to change to a location with a 500 foot long straight, that included some enclosures I could use to wall mount and launch, where I felt comfortable going 6 to 10 mph, where the EUC became much more stable, allowing me to focus on speed control (leaning forwards | backwards) and tilt (foot) steering. The next day, a short 10 minute session using tilt steering to do laps at around 5 mph in the tennis court, then back to the long straight. The last step was free mount, which I did at a soccer field, my first time on grass. Since I already knew how to ride, I just stepped twice and hopped on, the first 2 tries, I didn't accelerate enough, but on the 3rd and subsequent tries, I was able to launch. Once I could free mount, I moved to a over 2000 foot long and wide pathway. The fastest learner I've seen could already ride a non-powered unicycle, and it only took him about 10 minutes of doing simple drills before he just free mounted and rode away.

Would like to say squeezing the wheel can actually make it wobble for me (Nikola plus). My only crash has been backwards due to wobbles. Had road rash that took a week to recover from so I think this is one of the biggest things you should be worried about. The offsetting your feet advice is spot on though. The best thing to do is prevention though. Do not try to brake too quickly.

Unfortunately just seeing this video now….Man, thats a great comprehension! The one and ONLY thing i dont like is that you dont wear ANY knee and wristguards, which are essential, as these are the first hitting points in case of a fall. Other than that: Goodjob!

17:02 I remember back when 'trunk-monkey' was a thing, but This... This is just a whole new level of awesomeness! Did you get the crowbar or flamethrower upgrade as well? 🤣 On a serious note.. I'm seeing more and more people dropping info about the gear that they use.. For us 'dual sport motorcycle guys', IMO one of the best packs out there for light/medium-duty would be the: *KLIM Nac Pak* Not only is it a killer little backpack, it'll also incorporate a hydration pack.. Win Win. Great video dude!! 🤘 Sam -

Love your video. Thank you for your time and effort. Question: At the time stamp 18:20 of your video when you were coming out of the store and launching the wheel, did you mount your left foot before leaning forward to take off? A group of us are debating whether you had an initial momentum forward before stepping on your left foot.
@JCFYouTube
@JCFYouTube 2 года назад
lol. Well, you can see that it starts to move forward immediately and there is no way I could get my foot on the petal that fast, but that was not on purpose, I have less than 5% of my normal control on one foot so my first goal is always to get both feet established equally on the petal before moving to my next objective. As I have gotten better and better, that transition blurs more and more which causes times like that to happen where I started moving before getting established. My body must have known that my feet were going to get situated correctly. (also, keep in mind that I knew I was filming and wanted it to be quick and seamless for the video footage)

This is a GREAT video. I truly enjoy the common sensical approach and all of the techniques. I do, however, have a question for you and any others...I am 5' 11' and 220-230lbs. I ride e-bikes almost everywhere. I have played around or my Hero hoverboard a bit and am going to be ordering an EUC soon. I was looking at: V-11, 18-s and the 16-x. I like the idea of suspension, but I don't think that's a deal breaker either way. The KS 16-X looks like the best fit. I would usually be riding to and from work or the boat...only a few miles, but once in a while probably 20-25miles. At my weight, how likely is the KS 16-X to serve my purposes, as this will also be my first EUC or possibly the KS 18-XL? Thanks for any input.
@JCFYouTube
@JCFYouTube 2 года назад
All the choices you are looking at are good, but if you are looking for something super reliable when loaded down, I would get the 16x. It was overengineered so it can handle a LOT of weight and still feel normal. Then again, if your budget could go higher, I am getting the S20 Eagle which is crazy powerful and has suspension, but it is really expensive so I would go with the 16x if you are just wanting something super reliable even at high weight. P.S. When you buy it, please consider using my link in the description and pinned comment of this video. I think a lot of people don't see it or don't think to use it and that kickback really helps a lot!

If you ride on the right hand sidewalk instead of the left on the intersections where you have to stop for traffic there is the stop sign you can hold on to so you don't have to get off and back on your wheel.
