Although DayZ Offline Mode is a simpler way of getting DayZ running on a local machine, it has certain compromises such as being unable to save your progress.
If you want a true DayZ server experience - for single player fun or testing and experimentation with mods - then installing a local server on your PC or Laptop is the way to go.

Let me first say, I've been a sole SCUM player for years because of the offline singleplayer, let's me enjoy exploring, crafting and building without fear of a random player sniping me from a distance, suffice to say I'm not a fan of PVP. Stumbled across this video followed your instructions and now I can enjoy DayZ without being killed by anything other than the environment, zombies or my own stupidity. A better way to access the Steam Games local files is to right click the game in your steam library ('DayZ Server' in this case) hover over 'manage' and click 'Browse Local Files' this will take you directly to where ever the specific Games/Tools Installed files. I only suggest this because when I do any tutorial video in regards to navigating your way to the Steam Library I often get many comments saying 'Cant find steam folder', 'Can't find 'common' folder', 'Found steam folder but my game is not here'. Great video also! I can now learn how to survive in general and understanding the game better without being shot in the back every few minutes :P

ANYONE!! who is trying to do this right now after updates you need to know that serverDZ.cfg is already downloaded with the steam server downloads just need to go in and edit it with note++ do not copy and paste the serverDZ.cfg from the web page just edit the one already on the game file!!!! if you dont you will just run into countless errors trying find dayz exe. but the rest of the video with "start.bat" is all correct fix all that awesome vid thanks alot!!!

I SOOOOOOOOOOOO appreciate your efforts with this video. I live in a world with very limited bandwidth and slow internet speed in general and this has allowed me to enjoy one of my most favorite games THANK YOU! I have been working on loading mods into this configuration (Zomberry specifically) and try as I might I am still flumuxed (old dude gamer) with the locations of the .json files etc. Any added instruction would be a blessing!

Very informative video and very well spoken. Your video possibly saved me HOURS of troubleshooting regarding the "profiles" part of your video. I could not figure out where the profiles folder was located for a local server setup and every video or website I found didn't provide the syntax you provided. Dude, thank you so much for this. After hours going through lots of crappy content, yours was simple and exactly what I wanted. Able to play alone on my own PC. Awesome. Thanks. Now, I am still lost as far as being able to customize loaded loot at startup. Do you have any video on how to create a mission set of files so I can configure my character and environment for this?

if you watching this is 2024 just know the cfg file is now already created when downloaded. if you don't want mods you can now just start the server and it'll work.

I did what you said and the server wouldnt start, kept getting a PID(different each time). And it kept trying to start and wouldnt stop. I dont know if theres a update thats the problem.

Thanks again Rob for your videos. I been subscribed few years now had servers and stopped them but never used this till now since I am more interested in doing things how I want them then later make them mods or whatever. This made it easy even for someone who has a lot of server side experience.

I just started Dayz for the first time ever, and also at the same time, made the switch from console gaming (since atari, and yes i know im old) to pc gaming lol..so im learning how to game on mouse and keys, as well as dayz in all its glory. However this will help greatly to get the mechanics down and my fat console fingers to "think skinny" and learn all the hotkeys and such to prepare for pvp in live servers 😬 thanks again

If you are having problems with "DayZServer_x64.exe not found" but the path is correct, then you probably have the server installed in a different drive than C. For it to work, you should add a "/d" at the beginning of the serverLocation variable. Ex: "/d G:\Program Files\etc.."

Thanks. this is even easier now since the files are included in the download. The start bat file only needs to be configured and renamed and the config file only needs to be... well configured. I used this to get used to the game and learn the mechanics before jumping into pvp

Adding a dash instead of leaving the space in the batch file gives you an error "the client has a mod that is not on the server". Remove the dash and leave a space and it works good.

Great tutorial! I'm going to be trying this soon. Do you have any experience on running this on a VM hypervisor like unraid or proxmox? I've got an HP Z840 and am experimenting with Unraid right now. Looking to run a Windows 11 VM off it and use it as a game server as well as a Media NAS. I'll most likely give it 6-8 (machine has 24) cores to work off of and 16GB of RAM. Can you also host multiple connections off a LAN, since my son and daughter both both like to play this game.

I did everything as instructed in the video, twice, but when i try to launch dayz i get console message [ERROR][server config]:: Server config not found! Make sure you launch server with "-config=" parameter. if you use a program called logmein hamachi you can use thatto play on your lan server with frinds makes it like there on your lan connection

your profiles should be called "-profles=profiles" some modders will use both destination in case you have configs but the default to tell the mod to store its data on pc is profiles and missions. if your mod isn't loading properly this is probably why. the mod is telling it to make files in the profile folder that if you put config will not be named right.

Great video. Does this client or batch saves the progress automatically or do I need to do something manually to save the progress? Also, once the progress is saved, how do I start the server again? Wouldn't the start.bat file start a fresh server with the progress erased? Thanks you in advance!

Hey i need your help, for no reason i started being kicking out from my server, when i turn on server i see lot of inputs that cannot load !!! [Inputs] Cannot read inputs cfg "config\Users\Survivor\Server.core.xml", parser error !!! [Inputs] Cannot load input preset "#STR_USER", file does not exist Please help me i dont know what to do
