Damn I love how specific some of your vids are! I was doing a vague search on leveling and I found this video that fits EXACTLY that I was looking for. Thank you for all your amazing D2 content. I've been playing off and on for 20 years. In highschool all I did was play d2 but it's been more than a couple years since Ive played seriously. I tryd Many times to Get back into the game over the years But never made it very far without getting bored because I had played the game SO much and all my treasured accounts had expired and were lost forever.. D2 to resurrected Actually made the game fun again for me. I consider myself a very knowledgeable, veteran player and alot of the updated knowledge is due too your Content. So again, thank you very much for helping bring a treasured childhood experience back to life.
Yes, until you have wasted points into skills that are not useful in the later stages of the game because the guide failed to tell you that you actually can NOT respec later. You get three points of respecs, and that's it. When leveling, make sure not to casually drop points into skills you won't be using in hell difficulty. You won't get them back.
@@DeeDub02 It seems I was wrong. Since patch 1.13, you can reset all your skills through the "Den of evil" quest. And you can save the reward for later. Just take notice that you can only do this three times per character though.
Greetings Mr Llama! I recently discovered your channel and quickly found out you are, if not the goat, one of the tops of this game. I think the content in general is awesome and very usefull, I was wondering though how come I can't find a guide in your vods of a Concentrate Barb. I saw all the types of Barb except this one. Did I miss it? Or if there isn't, is there a particular reason for that? Anyways keep up the amazing work!
What would you recommend for the merc while leveling up? Does barb warcry benefit from A2 NM might? I would think no but still it would be good to get A2 merc and equip him w insight if possible for meditation but couldn’t decide better to go w prayer or might. Might could still be better option w killing bosses as it would help w concentration. What’s your opinion?
Okay, so after 10 days I was about ready to put my face into a microwave around level 23-24, it was just WRETCHED while following your guide. However, I found a way to make this part a little more palatable. A slight tweak to the guide doubled my speed. I used a Malice with a 3 socketed morning star and another triple-RAL morning star in my offhand, and instead of spamming frenzy since the weapon is slower, I just hit frenzy once and 3-4 double swings. It seems DS doesn't take into affect the slow weapon speed so it actually worked pretty well. With this rotation I was able to blow through some grinding in Act 4 MUCH faster, probably about 1-2 hours to get from there to 30.
This is a really good format for your guides, I was watching your barbarian to hell playthrough and was copying the build, but ai ended yo watching a ton of it in the background and panning over the video to find skill levels. I think you should keep this guide formula.
Sorry, I had more to add. If you end up doing your play throughs, I think it would be awesome to use this guide/skill video formula at the beginning before the gameplay, I really enjoy playing along side your videos
Underplayed? It's the most played character in Diablo, and that's why it's in every single game. Yes, at end game leet groups you get Hammerdins and Sorcs, but for soloing, a Barb is one of the very best characters because of Beserk and Whirlwind. I don't do Warcry though, at around level 35 you can do cows and so on, should be able to make an Insight for your merc, look for a Bill in Act 5 (good damage for your merc). Any decent weapon will do whirlwind nicely, you just need some life steal.
@@kungfusmith4526 But most people play solo, and he is really, really high up there for a few reasons. There is no monster in the game he can't kill, second he gets to weapon swap to 6xIST phase blades or gull daggers for a huge boost to grab a whole other boss level drop from the boss mobs and minions he kills. That is HUGE. While and LF Zon or Hammerdin might clear a bit faster, the Barb can kill quickly, and get a second drop at a higher MF. Barb is not a secondary character and after level 30 can zoom right to end game with no problems.
Barb is awesome, can solo the whole game, every single part of it, even ubers. The thing is: this is the most 'weapon skill' oriented class, which means more equipment dependent (specially weapon dependent). It's usually easier to lvl up with non weapon oriented skills, you just need to dump skill point on it and get some +skills equipment. I think that's why Llama suggested the ONLY barb skill that's not weapon oriented for dmg (and it's also an AoE skill, somethinig not common for some melee): war cry. That being said is perfectly fine to lvl as a melee weapon barb. But unlike a "skiller barb", you'll have to keep an eye on your weapon dmg, AR, etc. One little tip that I like to use for my barbs is to stick with that a1 merc in normal. I think they combo so well. Get a fast bow w/ 3+ sockets and put gems on it, there you have your personal turret.
For the passives, I like a point each in Sword, Axe and Mace Mastery. So that I'm free to use whatever one-handed weapons drop for me. Then I'll put points into Bash until I can unlock Double Swing, for the synergy damage.
Been watching your vids they are all super great thanks. Was wondering if you have (or could make) a vid sort of highlighting good items to hang on to as you go through the game. I vendor's Angelic stuff and then caught you saying its good for lower levels. Wouldnlove to see what gear you keep in shared boxes and what you trash.
This was very helpful. After watching your Trav barbarian video, I wanted to make that find item barbarian. Lol, beating the trav council like they owe your money. "Oh shit here comes Deebo again".
Whelp made the mistake of respecing on my normal playthrough in the world stone keep and pretty much bricked my character. It was a dumb move but I didn't realize how bad it was going to hurt me till it was too late. Edit Just wanted to add that you shouldn't make the move to Shout barb UNTIL you have the correct gear. Shout barb without some mana is worthless. Even if you try chugging pots it's pretty painful.
I completely agree with you on this. I like these pro player guides but they always say respec at the level that the skill unlocks or 3 levels afterwards. They forget about getting the gear first and that the skills' dmg is rubbish at a low level. I did a barb up to level 32 and then respeced into the shout barb, I cannot farm normal or do nightmare with this, I have to use 2 mana potions before I kill something from act 5 normal - act1 nightmare. Also the pros always have the gear pre-collected for their characters. I think alot of pro players forget that new players are not as skillful as them, in every guide the pros talk as if we're all players that have mastered the game.
@@SuperDonny21 Well he does clarify what you should be looking for. And having 2 spirits solves a LOT of mana problems associated with shout barbs, and they are all relatively easy runes to collect in general. You can just stay with melee really until you get farmed up as well. Normal and nightmare are relatively easy to do so. I started a sorceress maybe a week or so ago and already got to 72 and haven't even touched nightmare yet cause I gotta farm up more before I do so. Just how D2 works unfortunately. lots to find before you go on.
Well, finished the other 6 classes on Hell. Finally, like Peewee running past the snakes while rescuing the pet store from a fire, only the Barbarian is left. Barb, you are my snakes.
@MrLlamaSC there are few points remaining untill lvl 23 , on which skill should i spent them? Do i keep pumpng mace mastery or add points into Bash or Pump DOuble swing ?
On sp, I had a ww barb with 2 bloodletters. In hell I would ww thru packs and run to act bosses. I would only fight the act bosses until I got to Memphisto. Then I farmed him until I got gore riders, and a perfect bonehew. Respec into polearm and GG
Thanks for the mini guide. I have leveled every other character ti kevel 90+ but got extremely frustrated after leveling a Barb to lvl 30 and being so disappointed in WW (which I didn't know how it worked)
for anyone that will shop the 3 os flails: u must be level 15 to get akara to have 2 flails for selling, i tried at level 13 and she didnt ever have flails
i leveled a sorc first and found many set items that are for a barb. Should I go with those sets (beserker set with the ax and splint mail) or go with the runeword items? I like the set bonuses. There is the arctic set also I find useful
Love ur content however i just cant solo Hell!!! It is so frustrating. I have paladin, sorcerous and druid to Hell level but gee I die soooo quickly, even in the 1st stage. I hate quitting but do you need a team to do hell?
Currently lvl 37 in Normal doing Baal runs using the Shout/War Cry build. It's working really nice for me *but* I have some really good (for the level) passed-down gear. If I didn't have all this, I doubt it would be this good: Lore Rune Word helm Skin of the Viper Magi Nightsmoke belt (+20 mana, +50% damage taken goes to mana - something else might work better) Silkweave Boots (+5 mana after kill, +10% max mana) Frostburn Gauntlets (+40% max mana) Wall of the Eyeless bone shield (+5 mana after kill, +20% FCR) Spirit Rune Word crystal sword (35% FCR, like 100+ mana) 1 SoJ (+20 mana, +25% max mana) 1 rare +10% FCR ring, with like +48 mana (and some other unnecessary stats) +2 Warcries +10% FCR rare amulet (not sure if it has any mana on it) + some other grand charms with a little mana on them. total of +12 mana after kill (my War Cry costs 24 mana per shout/cast) With Battle Command, I have +8 to all warcries, and +6 to all other skills. I have like ~1350 health and ~850 mana with Battle Orders up (just one point spent there, like lvl 9 BO with BC up). I don't even bother with bosses for now, I just do Baal Runs and bail after Baal's minions. This works pretty well, this setup, but I can definitely see how if you don't have access to all this 'twink' gear it would be frustrating having to drink mana potions constantly (I have to use them fairly frequently even now). My merc is only lvl 20 or 21 now, so he can't yet use any of my Insight RWs (he has to be at least 27(?), and that's if his stats are high enough to use the item). That would help a lot I'm sure with mana.
Decided to make a trav MF barb ... but that means playing tho as a barb. Found this shout barb build and it's been alot of fun. Granted I am a bit more gear stacked from my MF Hammerdin (Ran full Berserker and Death Sets almost solid till lvl 30 then jumped to caster gear) but I find my shout barb cruises thro NM player 8 w no issues at all (currently lvl 63 in player 8 NM Act 3) Currently running Arreats/Spec Shard/Spirit/TalEth Mage Plates/MageFist/SilkWeaves/10%FCR R Ring, Caster Ring/ +2WC/10%FCR Caster Amu(just happened to roll this on my pali weeks ago)/and 10%FCR/24%FHR caster belt... so 156% FCR and 100%+ FHR nothing really slows me down atm. Assuming this will get substantially more difficult in Hell as I generally do need to sit back and let me Merc kill the bosses already as hes sitting with an Insight Thresher and Stone Eth Duskshroud. He's great atm but Hell will eat him even once he gets the Tal Rasha Mask I have waiting for him.
Lol during the beta I just put all my points into sword mastery and 1 on each shout available (level 24), I Auto attack the whole beta and beat act 2, but for sure I'm gonna be trying this the 23.
i found the "singer" barbarian guide under the fastest leveling one that is here with this guide its following the same pattern as most builds, except mrllama didnt say what to do with the stat points in this video this time, is it implied all vit? because the guide says to do 30 energy for the respec which i find incredibly odd unless its due to low mana pool? for not normally being a caster?
Quick question, will the druid zeal (forgot the name) also lock you in place until you are done doing the extra attacks ? Besides that, what do you guys think it's the easier or less gear dependant or most fun meele build ?
How do you manage the mana demands when respec to shout barb at 30. I'm playing SSF, so dont have access to all the mint gear. Can I transition to shout barb at start of NM and get some budget gear that will give me smooth levelling for NM?
I wonder what is decent weapon(s) for a mid-level Baba (it's also my first time playing it) who is doing full frenzy because double Spirits are kinda on the low side in nightmare.
Hi, I am a newbie and looking at the box storage you have and it has 4 layers, but mine have only one layer I am playing DR2 is there a difference with D2?
How does a barb transition out of IK gear? The thought of taking off one piece and losing all those bonuses seems like it's pretty much just never going to happen without taking a big hit to DPS
when you kill a boss that drops runes like at the end of the first act, can you go back to kill her again for more? i have the three from there, but dont want to waste them.
i had to buy a crappy flail between shop resets because she always had the same white flail. The only way she got a different one was from buying it and then new game.
is it true that spirit is only for ladder characters? that's what it says on the wiki. i finally got a 4 socket crystal sword and wanted to look into making that but i don't want to like... waste them or whatever might happen if i through some runes into it. :( noob here
Act 4 and 5 are incredibly rough. The flail damage falls off horribly. Leveling from 24-30 for the respec is awful. Is there anything I can do to get through those levels?
I didn't have issues with flail damage at those levels, were you using runewords? I had a Steel in one hand and a Malice in the other. The problem i have is that i just hate flails, they're silly weapons and i'd rather use swords, axes, or polearms, but all of that stuff sucks until you have a fully endgame geared char to use them properly by the looks of it.
Can confirm, just went through act 4 and 5 ended up lvl 29 after killing baal, ITS INCREDIBLY BAD! you miss 50% of the time with your swings and u can't aoe anything, garbage character for levling
using this video to level a barb and its helpful, but the way you jump back and forth has me jumping back and forth in the video to get to the points i need to know in the order i need to know them
I’m going to make a build and all I want is just a build that’s super tanky and does a crap ton of damage and in melee. I’m basically asking what’s better between a barb and a paladin at max strength
Paladins have far more.. versatile kits compared to barbarians. Paladins get an aura to fix most of their problems and generally use shields making it easy to survive most things. Not to say barbarians can't do the same, but paladins do it far easier still.
How to level the fun way: do what you want, trial and error. While I appreciate MrLlama's good content, guides like this are the reason WoW classic didn't even come close to living up to expectations - everyone was min-maxxing everywhere from day 1. Didn't have that upon the initial release and the true vanilla is where a few million peoples' nostalgia takes them. While WoW is dependent on others, D2 is soloable and will probably be more fun for you if you try it yourself, no guides or anything...at least on your first character or two.
Double swing doesn't really net you extra mana. it is free after getting level 9, but the Negative cost is more of a display bug than anything else, it doesn't really Leech/Gain. Still an excellent skill, I recommend it.
@@Cafe_TTV the transition from this guide into Whirlwind. When to know you're ready for WW, what level goals, what budget items are really required to make it work for NM for example
Fara isn't showing 3 socketed flails... ever. 2 at best. Must have reset her shop 150 times. Any way to get the 3 socket, am I missing something? I am playing the version that just came out. Was there a nerf by chance?
I'm having a really hard time with this build at 46, I don't seem to do any damage and I have to smash a mana pot about every second. Took me WAYYY to long to kill Meph on Nightmare.
@@skulver Appreciate the reply, how do you deal with the mana though? I think I might NEED to dualwield two "Spirits"? i think the Runewords called, whatever the one increases your mana pool and +2 to all skills in the crystal sword he showed. Anyway, the only thing I can think of to make the build work is to get two of those, because as of right now, I don't deal much any damage and if my Shout isn't up, a few warcries and I'm oom.
I just started playing d2r and made a barb. I got a unique mace at level 6 and from then on until diablo, I was literally 1 shotting everything including bosses. I would walk up and hit a boss without even realizing it was a boss, and it would die before I could even see the name of the boss... idk how this happened or if it's normal but man, it felt broken. I fought diablo at level 28 and it was a bitch but I took him down! I like to think im playing well but I have no clue how any of the systems or itemization works. I feel like I've sold a lot of really good items. Even white and grey Items that vendor for 25000 and stuff.
Man I’m struggling in Hell difficulty following the build. Took me like 5-10 minutes to kill blood Raven. Swapping back and forth between shouts and a Black flail. Anyone have anything specific to look for grinding wise in nightmare before moving onto hell?
If you can trade for some lower lvl weapons like butchers pupil at 39, 2 of those can easily carry you through hell. War cry works into nightmare and then it’s terrible. With some added crushing blow from goblin toes, GFace, or on swap to double black runeword flails, can easily take down bosses in hell.
For me my first time playing D2 back when it first came out i played a WW barb, seeing that the preferred method to leveling up a Character that for all intent is a melee character, is to turn it into a caster...says a lot on how seriously shitty playing a Barb is....
melee has ALWAYS been dogshit in D2. That hasn't changed in 20 years :/ And another reason I wish they would decide to do some tweaks perhaps. It's no fun playin a melee character when every caster hero is just.. infinitely better in most cases. sad but fact.
