So I was curious and did some more testing and tried some stuff - that is what I found: HORSES ARE WORTHLESS AND DO NOT MAKE PROFIT UNLESS YOU CHEAT THE SYSTEM! See an in depth explaination below: Disclaimer: I did 1 day months for testing You do not have to feed the horses, they do not starve and age without food. You can buy them and let them be until they get old which makes them more valuable without any investment other than maintenance for the barn. To maximize the effect you need to start to ride them when they are 32 months old - so you can ride them 4 times (each ride gives 25% fitness) before they get 36 months were they prize caps out. That alone will not rise their health and value, for that they need to be fed. I have not really tested this but what happened made me think of a theory: oats have 60% efficency and hay has 40%. I fed them oats only and when the fitness was high enough the horse gained about 60% health per month. I think if you feed them both you can get up to 100% health in one month, that is not confirmed tho. One old horse eats 100l of oats per month (you should not feed young ones to safe money) and you have to feed them 2 months to get 100% health so 200l oats per horse. From my testing the cleaning makes no difference whatsoever!!! I think this is kind of cheating but in order to maximize profit - or should I say to make profit in the first place ... you should: 1. Buy the big horse barn 2. Buy 14 horses 3. Wait until the horses are 32 months old but do not feed, ride or clean them 4. Ride the horses monthly but do not feed them until they are 34 moths old 5. Put 2800l oats or a little bit more in the barn, continue riding them 6. When the horses get 36 months old they should be at 100% fitness and 100% health and can be sold for 5000 $ Now to the maths for the profit: Each horse costs 500$ and 300$ for delivery, when you sell there is another 300$ fee. Meaning the cost for buying and transporting each horse is 1100$. (if you buy the cheapest horse trailer which is 16000$ you need to buy and sell 16000/(300*2)=26.666 ~27 horses to break even which will take 6 ingame years) When you do it this way each horse needs 200l oats, oats can be sold on normal settings and the highprice for about 1400$/1000l. You need about 3000l for all 14 horses so oats worth 4200$. The maintenance for the barn is about 125$per month but i am not totally sure because I had other buildings as well in the test. That means the total profit = (5000$-1100$)*14-4200$-36*125 = 50100$ Profit per year = 16700$ The investment is a big barn for 125000$ and 14 horses for 7000$ which totals 132000$. IF YOU CHEESE THE SYSTEM AND MIN MAX EVERYTHING YOU NEED 7,9 INGAME YEARS TO RETURN THE INVESTED MONEY!!!!! IF YOU FEED THE HORSES DURING THE WHOLE TIME YOU LOOSE MONEY!!!!! I did not test this out completely because young horses consume less oats than older ones. If you estimate the food usage over the whole 36 months as 90l oats per month you need 3240l oats per horse which is 4536$ food per horse!!!! So you buy and transport the horse for 1100$, feed it about 4500$ worth of oats and it can only be sold for 5000$ which is a loss of 600$ per horse without calculated maintenance... -.- Feeding them hay as well does not reduce the oat consumption it only adds more cost to an already bad deal ^^ Breeding horses is also worthless: You safe 500$ for the horse and 300$ for the delivery but you need to feed the mother horse for 11 months which means 1100l oats totaling 1540$, which again makes you lose 740$ per young horse. TO SUM IT UP AGAIN: DO NOT GET HORSES THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE BUM TO CARE FOR AND ARE ONLY PROFITBALE WHEN YOU TRICK THE SYSTEM!!! I can proudly state that I tried this out before I got them on my actual farm xD.
Well. it's 1:33 a.m here, and i must admit that this video made me realize that i thought of Hay and Straw as the same thing for 30 years. Kind of embaracing given i grew up in the small village with all kinds of domestic animals around. And holy molly you can ride horses in FS? Oo This game is a gem. I wish there was at least some kind of physics though, lol. And thank you Farmer Cop, i learned a lot from your videos. Tutorials or not. Much love.
Hi Cop. I have two horses in a large barn. Fully fed (hay and base), I groom and ride them 100% everyday. But, their fitness has dropped from 100% to 97% 🧐 Any ideas why?
Let me know when you have a guide to remove all seasons effects like setting month to one day and constantly sleeping to have crops grow like in FS 19.
watched this video to troubleshoot: they have some hay but oat is in the red, but the effectiveness bar is full green. is this why it won’t let me give them oat?
The pen can only hold a certain amount of food, that total is the added total of hay and oats, so if you can't add anymore its because the pen's capacity is filled
I went to school for equine studies and equine nutrition so I hope I don't sound like a snob. It's obvious they put a lot of effort into this and visually, it looks great compared to other games featuring equie husbandry. I just wish they maybe consulted someone more knowledgeable in horse care since there is a lot of variety and care options that vary from location, personal budget, climate, etc. Like using straw for bedding. I rarely see that these days. It's a pain to maintain compared to other bedding options like shavings and can be pricey depending on where you're located. The feeding options are a bit awful too. Sorghum should never be fed to horses. Its grasses contain cyanide and should be avoided at all costs and its grains have a high starch content and are hard to digest. Oats are a great food source, but giving only oats can cause deficiencies in things like calcium. They have a high phosphorous content so it's better to have a mixture of grains. Though, hay is the single most important feed option and their diet should be forage-based. I'd love to see a game where overgrazing of fields is a problem you have to avoid and feeding varies by horse to horse depending on age and workload.
I have found it easier to put bales of straw into a forage mixer wagon to turn it into lose straw. (works for hay also on a separate trip) Then I unload it directly or store it in a hay loft. I found that much easier than juggling bales. Good luck!
Should be the same as on PC, they can be a little difficult to take as bales sometimes, loose product is always easier, if you have bails you can put them in a feed mixer to turn them into a loose product if you want
Hi Farmer Cop! I could really use some help. I just got my horses in FS22 (PS4) and even though it wasn’t as easy as you did it in this video, I was able to give them oat and straw. No matter what I did, I could not give them hay. I tried different tractors, trailers, mixer wagons and even if I got the “start overloading” symbol to show up, it would start to dump the hay but not give them any, and then it would say “hay is not accepted here”. I also tried taking a 600l bale (hand bale) right to the feeding symbol and that didn’t work. I have tried so many things and I can’t seem to feed them hay. Any insight on how to fix this? If you need more info, I can give it. Thanks!
@@BrokeBrosTSD their health goes up once they have everything. Mind you, for my chickens, I think they're only at 20% health. I'd have to look to be sure. Also, Arthur, I forgot to mention that I have an 8 horse pen with a barn. It shouldn't make a difference but I thought I'd make sure you knew that.
@@jessicajensen1006 so I learned that if you fill the capacity with oats or sorghum, you can’t add hay because the total capacity is met. You can’t have both full. That was my issue
I found the drop off point was temperamental, bales were fine but when I tried a pallet of oats I found I had to loan it in from the right side as I faced it.
Hey Farmer Cop🚨 Please make a guide to cows, I can't find a way to put straw for them in the shed. Also thankyouu for the other guides you've published already.
The whole concept is good and i enjoy it. However.....the physics leaves a lot to be desired. *Clunky/Choppy* Handling mainly not to mention it will not let you go into 1rst person view. With all that being said, If they would improve the physics it would be sooooo much more enjoyable to ride and explore around the map and get the training done but unfortunately, because of the clunky handling ect.. I find it to be a DRAG...
aight im probs being dumb but how do you feed them with bales in 22 cus in 19 we had them bale crusher thingys but im not seeing them in the shop, am i looking in the wrong place or something, and i never done horses before so ye
Hummmm, that's odd. I can only get one of them in, ie Grass / hay and so, But it only let me one of them, not a mix of them. hummmmm how are getting that to work ???.
Ok quick question. Console player here (ps5) cant get straw to blow into the pin. I have the 5 horse pin and the pro chop 150 blower with purchased wheat bales. It will not give me an option to straw the pin!!!!! Help
You don’t need the blower. Just get the raw straw to the drop point. If your straw is already in a blower, get it close to the drop point and use the “unload here” function.
What can you do if you accidently filled food with only "base food" (Oat or Sorghum) and you can't add any Hay because storage is full? Health is not going up and I figure thats why... HELP!
Man the horses graphics are pretty bad. I have a rule with games with horses in it. I have been riding real horses for over 15 years. So I know how they really move. If a game can't do it right I can't play the game... the best game with horses in it to date is Red Dead 1 and 2 and Sims 3 pets
Right?! RD2 has amazing graphics and they didn't scrimp on the horses, it's pretty much the only reason I bought the game was to ride around on the horses lol. Here it's like everything else in the game is realistic and they thought, hey lets throw in farm animals and horses.. and did the bare minimum on them. If you're going to add a new feature... make it right the first time. Not to mention the pastures are so small, it would be cool if there was an expansion feature to make it bigger... not to mention there is no enrichment options by the looks of it. Maybe they'll improve it over time / future releases.
Thank you @Farmer Cop for these videos! Couple of question that came up my mind: How can we keep the Health bar green? How does affect a simple pasture for Horses’ health in the winter season. What’s the maximum value that can we make from the horses and how long does it take?
Should be able to keep it green by making sure they have everything they need. Should be no adverse effects in the winter. I dont know the last answer but I will do some testing in the future to find out :)
@@FarmerCop thank you! I spent time with the horses. The Health bar increased after 2 months, so I guess the winter doesn’t affect the simple pastures. I was wondering the horses’ max value will be lower than fs19 or we have to spend much more with them.
great video as always but you never say how to increase the fitness my horses are up over the 1000.00 range been daily riding and cleaning and food water etc but can't get fitness over 49 % had same since December 2021
@@FarmerCop normally I would agree with and hope that was the case... animals are daily ridden for weeks in a row, animals age is 9 months and fitness is still at 49% seasonal growth is on and set to 28 days in a month I've not seen any increases I'm thinking when they reach 22 months or maturity it will rise
I absolutely love farming sim 22 and have been wanting horses in the game for ages. I am a horse farmer and trainer in real life and I guess I was just expecting a little more effort from the game devs. A training mechanic would have been awesome. And maybe a more accurate riding system breaking down each key into a riding aid (eg: right leg, left leg, rein, seat, etc.). I’m sure that would have been super complicated though
You are right. As a horse rider I also hoped for something of training or focus on genetics. Maybe breeding race horses, work horses, lassoing horses etc.

Because I set swath dropping on when harvesting grains, I have an excess of straw bales. If I begin taking care of horses, will I be able to use the small rectangular bales that can be lifted by hand? (I think they are 125cm)
You have to first put straw into your silo to be able to get it out of there. You collect straw off of a field after harvesting either wheat, barley, or oats and leaving a straw swath
I am wondering if they reproduce now. The ui says something about reproduction if they are 10 months old. My horses are finally 10 months (I use the pasture in case that makes a difference) but it's showing 0% reproduction so not sure if this is a bug in the ui or if they breed now.
