How to restore a C3 Corvette steering wheel and install a sewn Aully Park leather cover. DIY project.
I bought a late-model C3 Corvette steering wheel at a swap meet for $10 in need of a complete restoration and a new leather cover.
The original leather was dried up and chipped off easily. It had chunks missing and lots of cracking. The spoke paint was chipped with several rusty spots.
It was ruined, but I had a plan...
• Sand it down
• Repaint it
• Cover the dried-up leather with cloth tape
• Install a brand new Aully Park stitched leather steering wheel cover
And after many hours of work, the transformation is amazing.
This is the first time I have completely restored a steering wheel. Especially one that was as far gone as this one.
This is a long video but I felt it was necessary to include as many details as possible to show other DIYers the steps necessary to bring one of these C3 Corvette steering wheels back to life.
I hope you enjoy the video and that it will inspire you to do your own steering wheel rescue.
The one I bought came off a 1980-1982 Corvette, but they are the same from 1977-1982 (at least those with tilt & tele columns).
Thank you for watching! 🙂👍🏻
