Hello from Australia. Very much appreciate your channel. It’s one of the places I go during my commute and my occasional sleepless nights.

Love all the videos. I really enjoyed what you said about the abyss being a blank slate, and the idea of being suspicious of ideological certainty. It is so easy to fall into that trap, and as a writer it's especially difficult. There are so many theories about how to write the perfect story, what kinds of stories to write, all stemming from smart people who have attempted to scientize creative activity. It certainly has its uses, the theories and ideas, but they can become restrictive so fast.

I don't like therapy because I want my therapist to talk like this. This feels therepeutic af. Instead of tiptoeing around darkness and absurdity, like most therapists do, philosophy just tackles it head on. I'm grateful to you, Julian, for making these videos.

We're conditioned from an early age to avoid darkness or mute it. But it doesn't go away. It's an expression that stays inside of us and works against us if we don't learn about it and work with it. Jungian psychology speaks extensively on this. But yeah, a great video and a return to speaking bravely about these things. Love that philosophers are collaborating and making content like this. So valuable!

Ok so i don't hate god so I'm sorry🙏 f 8 sounds like 8 but im gonna say something provocative in way god is the idea of evil it's like a chicken or D egg type of thing the outside god is so great he gives meaning to suffering THE 1 ABOVE ALL the sun that creates in which the gravity of all life revolves n evil being the corruption of the sun a blackhole or humanity hope's evil is a blackhole something that absorbs everything including light it contains information with infinite gravity so the stragglers can live n die with faith of their injustice haven't been forgotten 2 D annals of history so the will n desires off ppl for liberation of unfairness created god or evil exists so good can b greater uncle ben type of thing as above so bellow like adam eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil made human a hybrid species metaphorically cuz v like every other lifeforms r designed 2 procreate but mind memory imagination 2 create like god without D omnishits god good like the 🌞 n the living shadow of god is evil devil 👿 humanity is sisyphus evil is our boulder n the pit is the gravity of god

I'm glad I didn't read this because it would've given me a headache for at least a week. Dear God Almighty, you could've at least used 2 or 3 commas in there.

our survival being contingent upon the ability to dress up the nothingness at the pits of their stomachs.. philosophers always demand their pound of flesh lest they lose the capacity to think

wo, thank you Julian, this lecture was kind of a motivation speech for me.. I'm an artist and I question more and more often what's the point of it all? What's the point because the world isn't gaining anything with my personal "superficial " need to create... And the world seems to travel to the most hopeless point in the last decades. (Wars.. and so on) But maybe that's important , at least to me. And if you don't do what's important for yourself what's really left to live for ? Greetings from Portugal and continue to your lectures, they are absurdly important ! And happy you encountered Beckett in your life.

Hey Julian, very interesting lecture, I enjoyed it. You are extremely knowledgeable. Regarding pursuing something for the sake of the thing itself - is this related to the 'Ding an sich' concept (The thing-in-itself) proposed by Kant?
