When I started planning an all-inclusive beach vacation, I was completely overwhelmed trying to figure out where I should go and where I should stay. Every resort I looked at made their place sound like the best, so it was tough to tell what was true and what was just good marketing. I finally ended up picking the Barcelo Maya Grand resort in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, so in this video series I'll give you the complete guide to this resort. It's huge - 6 different hotels - so in this video I'll start by showing you where it is, what the entry-level hotels are, touring their lobbies, walking through the hotel buildings, and giving you a tour of my hotel room. In other parts, I'll show you the pools and beaches, all of the restaurants and buffets, the bars and nightlife, some of the attractions at the resort, nearby daytrips you can take off-resort, and more.

I’m trying to wade through all the resorts to find the right one, so I am grateful that you did this. I’m specifically looking for one that’s got good snorkeling, so this one looks like the right one for me!

That was really important for me too, and from what I read doing my research before booking it's one of the best resorts for that. For me, being able to snorkel with wild sea turtles at the beach was such a huge bonus.

The opportunities for good snorkeling are amazing here, right off the beach, whenever you want. The best snorkeling is toward the northern end of the beach, in front of the Tropical and Palace parts of the property. More reef structures and stuff to explore. And when I went a few years ago, they had a catamaran excursion you could book that departed from the pier right on site and went out to gorgeous shallow reefs between the mainland and Cozumel. It was a great afternoon.

I loved the Barcelo it’s amazing!!!!! My family loved it till this day they talk about it!! They will love to go back some day!!! It’s beautiful food is delicious drinks shows are amazing!!! We stayed at the Beach section back then the adult section was just being build!

I love it, too. I stayed at the Colonial but I loved how sandy it was over at Beach. We went there a few days to go swimming in the ocean.

Thank you for all the information that you don't get from any other reviews. Very detailed. One thing that bothered me is all the camera swipes that got me dizzy very fast. I had to pause the video a few times. it's either too fast or too much right and left moves. got to slow down your swipes. Otherwise it's awesome. thanks for all the great info.

I was there pre-COVID, so things will probably be different when you are there. I read that only Palace and Riviera are open right now (the others opened for a little while but closed because lack of travelers). So it will probably be a lot less busy than what I showed, and unfortunately the stuff at the 4 entry level hotels will be closed, but that will mean you'll be staying at the higher end hotels and get to use their restaurants and bars.

I stayed on the first floor only once, I found the humidity was just to much, the upper floors are much better not so humid.

Thanks for letting me know that, I didn't realize it would be such a big difference. I liked how easy it was being on the first floor, but I'd definitely go higher to remove the humidity.

When I went it wasn't free - they had daily and weekly WiFi prices. But I've heard that since COVID it's been free.

if we are going to stay at the barcelo beach part, can we use riviera's pools? and territory

You will be able to walk along the beach but you can't use any of their pools or other amenities. You can pay extra to eat at some of their restaurants, but that's about it.

I think it depends on what temperature and crowds you want. In December to April it gets busy because that is when most of the tourists from the USA and Canada come. I went in February and the weather was warm, sunny, and beautiful. After that, once you get into the summer there are less tourists because it gets very hot and there is also the threat of hurricanes.

Unfortunately there wasn't. The pools are pretty huge and a few have little "river" parts that connect the two big parts of the pools and have fountains, but it's not like a real lazy river.

@@FirsthandGlobetrotting Sorry I had one more question on this resort! I remember in one of your videos you said you stayed at this resort around 10 or so days. This will definitely be the resort I am thinking of staying at as a first timer to all inclusive. Was wondering if they have a laundry facility there if you wanted to wash clothes. I tend to over pack while traveling and I will be bringing my 3 kids as well so a great way for me to not over pack is if I can do laundry there.

I think they do but I never used it myself. When I was doing research before going everyone said it was very expensive compared to just paying the airline to pack another bag, so I just overpacked 😀

We used Canada Transfers to get to/from the airport.

How much did your transport from the airport cost?

It was $120 USD (including tax) for a round-trip private van for three people. They were waiting for us outside the airport with a sign with our name on it, and then on the way back they pick you up at your hotel. I went with Canada Transfers but the prices for other companies seemed to be pretty similar.

Do you get allocated a hotel once you arrive at resort?

It depends on how you book. Some travel booking sites just sell you a room at "Barcelo Maya" and when you get to the main gate they tell your driver which hotel to take you too. But you can also book a specific hotel (if you book directly with hotel or on some websites). I think they can technically still move you if necessary, but I got the one I booked for.
