' Just use thawing potions they said... Trivialize they fight they said...' Yeah and he still stuns you with each attack chills you and one shots your merc... very, very, balanced
Finally glad that Llama has mentioned that Succubuses are messed up in D2R with their stupid firebolts which doesn't respect original lore and gameplay mechanics - IT'S NOT FIRE DAMAGE, also the same spell was in D1.
every character I play flees in terror at the sound of them approaching. Run away or run in circles hoping they zero in on the mercenary who doesn't take the explosive splash damage.
When they said they were remaking D2 accurately, I wasn't expecting them to also include the random Dial-Up disconnects. But sure enough, the true number one killer is random crashes and disconnects.
Everyone has at least one hard learning experience from the dolls. Especially the jump from normal to higher difficulties where the increased explosion damage ramps up dramatically
I fucking hate them by FAR the most. I’d rather deal with minions of destruction. Stygian dolls are just punishing to melee characters cause of bs IMO. I also wanna add in I hate whoever came up with them, and don’t care if it would have “ruined” the game, I wish they weren’t in the remaster lol.
@@jesseroberts1041 Melee characters already got Iron Maiden removed from Chaos Sanctuary so you should be grateful anyway who even plays non-Sorc characters??
@@bethanygoldstein5472 By implying “who even plays” then you’re implying it’s basically non existent. But it doesn’t matter, Stygian’s suck, and get off my case about why I play melee characters.
I think there is nothing to learn from dolls, it's more of a lucky situation where they don't appear. Sometimes you can probe rooms or corridors with the orb spell, sometimes not. It doesn't matter how careful you are or if you use your merc wisely. They'll just sneak around the corner, crash into you with full speed and you'll drop dead. It all happens so fast that you can only utter a "wtf" before you get the notification. You can survive one, maybe two, but three or more at the same time are death. Usually, there is the merc who kills them but sometimes he is on a sightseeing vacation.
Had to take a screenshot when I completed Khalims Will on my squishy HC sorc in Hell :) It was an interesting journey through Flayer Dungeon and the Sewers.. though I was relatively lucky and not that many dolls were around. Also super lucky in the Durance 1-2-3 and 0 dolls :)
Haven't played Diablo in decades and walked into Durance of Hate in hardcore NM without a care in the world, forgetting about how deadly undead stygians were. Rip my first HC char XD
Haha yeah i could never play hardcore. I have some fairly good gear , which took me alot of deaths to farm. And i still get killed doing routine runs lol I even die moat tricking mephisto somtimes ...i aggro the council and somtimes that ends me. Or i accidebtally teleport to the boss instead of hitting blizzard lol
@@kb6530 I feel like moat trick is a waste of time and actually makes it easier to die because you can aggro the concil like you said. Just TP between Meph and act 4 portal and let your merc tank him. Or get max cold and light res and then you can tank him yourself.
I gotta give special mention to the cat spear throwers in act 5. They have 100% pierce and do quite a bit of damage. Always fun to hit the wp for a shenk run to load into 1/4 health left through all your summons as a summon Necro before being able to do anything.
I knew the dolls were #1 but I'm glad I stuck it out because I had no idea what was causes all that damage was the fact they explode. I thought it was just the animation and never noticed because usually when they're right next to you there's a lot of noisy animations going on. Maybe leaving the merc behind and just running by them is the way to go.
it's the only monster to ever surprise me with how much damage they can deal.... got 2-3 shot instant in hardcore.... Was playing a 94 level Hp aura druid with summons. 10k life in a fraction of a second.
I think you forgot about the other 2 mobs cause you haven't played in a long time. There are also sand cats in act5 that throws piercing spears and snakeman with poison spears that pierces. Together they form the three prime evils for any necro.
@@ngtony2969 I met the spear throwing cats in Act 5 Nightmare, farming Shenk the Overseer. Totally surprised by them by the waypoint. Lots and lots of them.
I give a honorable mention to javelin thrower, they do pretty good damage per hit, have an insane hit rate, and piercing! A pack of them with some modifiers can surprise kill defensive minion necros because their javelins will pierce through all your minions right in your face.
I remember going into hell difficulty with my barb back when skill synergies didn't exist and deleting the game after *days* of being oneshotted by act1 trash mobs
The game was designed for players to be using maximum good points vs the monsters. That means 8 players. Like D3, the game is infinitely easier in multiplayer.
I'm surprised how alligned my list was with this. I put the exact same 4 mobs on top in that exact order. I disagree with Dark Lancers and Infidels though, I think you put those there because they're frost immune. Honestly, I never even paid attention to the existence of Infidels or Dark Lancers. You could have easily swapped their spots with beetles and archers.
The misunderstanding about Vile Witch's damage I think comes from wrong animation in the newer version. In the old version they shoot blood stars which were a separate type of damage back in D1. In the newer version it looks like they shoot fireballs. That's...unfortunate. I wonder why they changed it.
If I’m doing Baal runs with my Cold sorc, and the Throne room is filled with succubus, oblivion knights and ghoul lords, I just quit the game and do another one
4- Oblivion Knights, yes, only at 4 now, not like before depending on your character attack type, melee, ranged or magical. If you were melee?, well..... Pre 1.13, they had Iron Maiden, which they would cast during your attack animation and instant kill you with 1000% returned damage, that sure was a lot of fun.
Omg your list is so darn accurate.. I've lost keyboards (plural) during classic because of the darn stigyian dolls. I hate them, I will always hate them. They are worst than bosses lol. I've heard that Max block builds can block the explosion damage caused by the dolls. Keep up the good work!
RAL runes are available at normal countess. They give 30% fire res , each. Farm her to 2 runes for your helm. Llama taught me that when I returned to the game.
I've never tried HC wondering if it's more fun? I'm just scared to lose progress, since I'm a begginer still i just made my first runeword lol spirit sword lol
@@FastestSal it depends. played SC for many years, and now hardcore is my thing. Your approach changes very much, being more cautions, smart and strategic
@@FastestSal if you're a beginner I'd wait. Personally I played path of exile for a while and had an experience where a boss killed me over and over as I slowly killed them, and I realize I could choose to not play that way but it made me instantly feel no investment in the game if I was allowed to die. Just personal preference. If you wanna do it, just accept you're gonna lose some character and learn the game that way. If you don't, don't feel like you should. All up to you.
This video unexpectedly is one of the many reasons this game is so much more preferred to diablo 3. Simply put...hell is hard. And unless you're fully geared and in an S tier build, you cant just steam roll the entire game, especially not during progression. I played d3 during all the server downs and it's not difficult at all. And sure GR150 is hard, youre so optimized and that's literally the end game. You get garunteed goodies at the end and you repeat. Try to clear act 5 in hell on a hard core character. Your booty hole will be clenched the whole time
I recently telported into a combination of Death lord, Viper, Dolls, and Souls in the Throne during a typical Baal run. I try to escape by opening a portal but didn't have time to give out a warning, and was hated by everyone after. But the on screen explosing of the word' 'Slain' was a spectacle till this day. 😂
Baal room if he accidentally pulled Baal there could be 4 but.... would have to be act 1 enemies, so yeah. And Doll's aren't obtainable from act three pool, though fetish's are
@@ItsRayful same thing happened to me recently but with only death lords, dolls and souls. And I died before I could escape. I'm sure the guy didn't make up a very plausible and not particularly exciting story (like why would he make it up).
@@IMP3TIGO In Diablo2 there are only ever spawning 3 different monsters per area. thats a fact. Its defintely made up. Its impossible for more than 3 monster types to spawn per area, apart from baals minions I guess, but neither of them are dolls, souls, death lords or vipers. So yeah hes just talking out of his ass. No matter how much you dont wan't to belive it. Some people are just spouting straight up nonsense.
Can we get a guide on Buffs and debuffs? basicly what to look out for on our characters when we get a curse on us, or when a bunch of mobs have an aura on them
I was really hoping you would list Stygian Dolls at number 1. They terrify me, they even do a fair chunk of damage before exploding. They just run up so fast and stab instantly
A tip for archers if you're playing a Barb, spam taunt on all of them and they stop shooting and walk up to you. Super easy to deal with. Also, I think it's pronounced sty-jun.
D2R Dolls > D2 Dolls :D seriously on old graphics i didn't have so much problems with dolls :D but now i do somehow Got to absolutely agree with them being top1, especially now on D2R
I'd have the venom boys, the big ol' demons, around the bottom of the list. They're super fast, and the flame breath can definitely rot you in early game when you haven't stacked enough resist. Pretty flimsy later on, but I can imagine a lot of dead corpses after the seal is popped in sanc.
For me one of the worst monsters to fight were Vampires (Blood Lord, Dark Lord, etc.). Reasons are that on Nightmare and Hell they have: 1. A ton of HP! Their health is close to some sub-bosses; 2. Huge defences and resistances (especially vs cold); 3. They regenerate at 2x rate (act V versions - at 2.6x rate), compared to normal monsters AND they have lifesteal; 4. They got 3 AOE attacks, and one of them (Meteor) deals damage in much bigger range than it visually shows on impact. Also they can cast over walls sometimes. Sonetimes I spend several times more time killing a pack of elite Vampires in Durance of Hate lvl 3 than killing Mephisto itself.
So beetles: bugged, snakes: bugged, death lords: bugged, mana burn: bugged. Servers barely running, long load times & crashes. High end PCs lagging. 20 year old game btw. Why pay beta testers for D2R when paying customers can beta test post-release? Genius!
Before watching the video: 1. those charge stun snakes. Those things are annoying as fuck. 2. those lightning shooting ghosts. 3. Those small mobs that blow up when you kill them 4. Oblivion knights -- with the curses and all 5. ???. Dono. Maybe those lightning enchanted beetles? Though those aren't that bad I guess. I'd have to think about it. Or do uber mobs also count? Because in that case I'd say that those mobs that are immune to everything but physical would be #1.
I played that way too. For 10 years before I moved on to Sacred Underworld... where I played the same. Llama taught me to skip. To save-quit. To potion stack. That antidote potions give 50% poison res. That thawing potions give 50% cold res. To buy a teleport charges staff in act 3 normal before level 24. That Decrepify and Clay golem prevent Baal’s nasty tricks, That you reset the Ancients until you get an easy group to fight... That Hell is about what you don’t fight more than what you do. That Countess runs get you runes. That cow runs are necessary to farm runeword bases. So much game design best practices.
Hey bro, can you turn your map into the top right mini map when you make these kind of vids? Map takes up too much of the screen when watching. Thanks, love the vids!
My impossible experience of recent times was Battlemaid Sarina, the the ruined temple, inherently spectral hit and extra fast, with extra strong and fanaticism aura as here two added abilities, on a meteor orb sorceress with a decently equipped merc. They ran from room to room in a second, and were unavoidable, and wiped me in a second even when I managed to get back in and retrieve my corpse once. Opening a portal and dying in the other side of the temple didn't seem to matter, as they were running around at hyperspeed patrolling the entire area.
Dunno whether it's fixed in Ressurected but those areas are bugged too in the sense. that enemies can spawn next to you and attack you, while the map is still loading.
D2’s design for monster encounters is to give the monsters high speed to run into place around the players, then the game switches to regular speed for combat. Extra fast on top of this initial speed boost gives you less time to react.
Personally, I think souls are worse because there are times where you have several champ packs together and you turn a corner into a literal wall of lightning which intern makes it near impossible to get your body back without dying a lot or quitting the game especially when they were bugged it was just the worst.
Infector of Souls can be nasty by the fact that when his mob spawns on the far seal, it corners you. I usually pre cast TP and run back from River of Flame WP to approach them from the center of the Chaos Sanctuary and have backing space.
I approve this list. Especially throne room styg dolls right at the door with all the worst mods. And your beast of a merc loves to pop them in one stab.
I play melee builds almost exclusively, and Dolls are far worse than anything else IMO. You can dodge soul's lightnings, but its difficult to escape from dolls
@@ricardgaliciasitjas5775 Which is why multiplayer makes the game infinitely easier. It was designed to be fun for groups so skills like Lower Resist, Static Field, Conviction, Might, Battle Orders etc make it easy. Llama’s day 1 group rocketed to 99. Because the group worked as one. Same deal in D3. Designed for group play with the Single Player Experience a way harder experience.
Thank you so much for explaining the Viper bug. I have 90% poison resist on my character in Nightmare, ~1k health, and I was getting dropped by these guys in under a second, and I couldn’t figure out why. Now I know.
As a hardcore-player I remember pretty well what the last mobs were that killed me. Even though those deaths are more than a decade ago. Note: Most of my deaths were to connection issues, I don't count them here. A unique Flayer Shaman in Act 3 Normal killed my Paladin. A Level 18 PK in Act 3 Normal killed another Paladin. A MSLE-Archer in some Cave in Act 1 Hell killed my Necro. Nilathak Act 5 NM killed me with a CE. I don't remember what char it was. A group of Extra-Strong-Extra-Fast Urdars in Act 2 Hell killed my Barb. This may ore may not have been a TP-PK. (for those who don't know: making a town-portal in an extremely dangerous room surrounded by monsters, in the hope someone would step into it and die. But it's hard to tell because it could also just be someone fleeing a tough situation by using a TP. Just don't take other people's TPs in HC unless you can ask them whether they are save and trust them.) I don't even know what it was but it was also MSLE in Act 2 Hell killed my Assassin. Diablo himself Act 4 NM killed my Amazon. My 1st and only character in D2R is still alive. A paladin, he's in Act 1 NM. I also actually still have a Necro in Act 2 Hell on a Floppy-disk. But I don't have a floppy-drive anymore. :D
even though they're in more visible spaces, slingers have such a huge aggro range that they might snipe you from off-screen (if you have an ultra-wide screen then maybe not). not to mention their damage is higher. so i would include them with the archers or rank them even higher. also charger undead like pindle should make the list. even though they're slow otherwise, they often spawn in dark areas.
You needed bigger balls to play D2 legacy, now small balls for D2R. Good catch, Llama! PS you probably won't read this, but your demeanor when that guy entered your game to try to get your Anni is the reason I'm subbed to you on Twitch!
I like how he could still die even though he probably has the best gear, in d3 if you got to endgame you were basically immortal, really gives a certain fear factor to d2
In D3 they constantly upped the damage and shortened the time frames. When I rejoined T6 was the ceiling. Now it’s T150. Just take a moment to imagine the incoming damage at compound interest that’s coming in.
First D2R character. Hardcore. Paladin. L29. Was standing in a pack of lords all roasting me with their fire breath, not a care in the world because I was wearing Hotspurs and Darkglow for 95% Fire Resist, zealing away. Lower Resist from a Knight. Deeds in an instant. Now I know, so I can deal. I can deal with gloams shooting lightning. Dolls? There is no dealing, sometimes you JUST DIE.
Those dolls were literally the only thing that really killed me on my latest hell play through... Killing like more than one of them in a second with my frenzy barbarian was absolute suicide... Sure I never used to have that much issue with them.
Glad to see my worst enemies being included. I honestly think the night lord champions at halls of vaught are the worst. One of them can kill 30 diablos. The little dolls are annoying but with proper kiting no problem.
Llama, your forgott Ghosts.... 1 sec ago I had all my Mana, now it is gone. When you have no pots you are dead. But agree to Souls & Dolls/ Dolls and Souls. But think Souls are more dangerous when you are not prepared for them.
For general/overall gameplay i say Souls are the nr1 most dangerous enemy, they kill you really fast when trying to teleport to Baal, i remember back in the D2 days most ppl would just leave if they knew lightning souls were on the way to baal and just join next instead, but never had anything like that happen with the dolls.
Death lords also seem to have a graphical glitch in resurrected, to where they freeze on screen and you can’t tell where or what they’re attacking, and then your instant dead. In single player at least… So it’s not Internet or lag-based
I found this as well, switching to the old graphics was the only way I could survive. I thought it was the whole game, but now that you mention it. They are the only mobs that gave me this issue.
I like the fact that in Diablo 2 monsters use skills which possessed by the playable characters. This makes the game's world more beliveable. It's like those skills are existing in the world and anybody can learn them.
In the olden days a possesed hell lord was the toughest normal enemy i came across. Gave my barbarian conniptions. Felt like it had more life than diablo
I can survive a bad dolls teleport with my mf sorc, but I have 0 chance to survive a bad souls teleport. Souls should be at the top really, but accurate list none the less. Would like a video about monster affixes/suffixes and their lethal combinations.
As a teleporting key farmer, I'd move vipers to number one. When there's a pack of them and you teleport to the wrong spot, they can one shot you with a charge and poison cloud, and it's impossible to react. At least souls are reactable, dolls don't have an instagib-stun and usually won't one-shot you, oblivion knights can be played around. Vipers are brutal without high HP and maybe energy shield to survive the initial hit.
