This visualization technique exercises our innate faculty of imagination, developing conscious control of our imagination. Usually, lower aspects of our psyche (ego) unconsciously controls our imagination (clairvoyance), but with this meditation, we gradually learn to take conscious control of our inner vision, thus learning to becoming more conscious of our inner vision, as well as being able to see and choose how and what we use our imagination for. Doing this exercise daily will increase the chances of astral projection and recalling past lives. The suggested links in the description are highly recommended for deeper understanding and study.
