1994 some argue is the best and most important year in hip hop history, although to me there’s no argument and more certainty. Fugees first album, Method man, Outcast, Jeru, Scarface putting out 1 of 3 5 mic albums considered hip hop perfection along with Illmatic and my favorite album of all time The Notorious BIG “Ready To Die”. 1994 the year in rap can be cited on and on for the outstanding year it was and a small piece of that year was also the debut of a 14 year old rap prodigy that was supposed to grow into the next big thing. Even Jay-Z later in his book says he admired and looked up to Shyheim’s young rap career, even though Jay-z is 10 years his senior. The two featured on Big Daddy Kane’s Show and prove song from his album Daddy’s Home, which also came out in 1994. He had songs with Big L, Method Man and Wu Tang Clan, and was signed to record deal with Virgin records for an amount unheard of at the time. He went on to release his debut in 94 that became the #7 album in rap and the 52nd best album in the country according to Billboard’s top 200. He even began his acting career in films like Original Gangstas, Preacher’s wife and the t.v series parenthood. Things was moving as fast as you could imagine for a 13 year old with a major label deal, 30,000 dollars cash in his pockets, Jewelry, and no one around to tell him what to do or how late to stay out at night, with his mom heavy on drugs, his dad in prison and his grand parents passing away when he was 11 years old. Unguided and shooting at his future in the dark, he continued down the unforgiving path of life in the streets. From there, what happened? Guiding a Prodigy: Shyheim The Forgotten Child! Shyheim had superstar talent young. Guidance is so important. he literally had no one but the streets. That said he did a lot for the cards he was dealt.

His whole swagger, always kinda reminded me of a little Method Man. His rapping style was kinda like Nas meets Pac. I wish RZA had taken him under his wing better back then. I know he was closer with the Stapleton "GP Wu" rappers, but it would've been nice if he had better guidance from actual Clan members. He rapped alongside 2Pac, Biggie, Big L, Jay, Kane, obviously Wu-Tang and more. And he was in TLC "Waterfalls" video, tv shows and movies, this dude should've been a way bigger star.

They should’ve stayed tight with Wu-Tang Clan. If so,they would’ve still been around. Same goes for the Umc’s. Kool Kim a.k.a. Nyoil went to the same school with Method Man. They should’ve all had the Buckshot of Black Moon mentality. When Buckshot came out,he put all of his people’s on which gave birth to the Boot Camp Clik.@@jaimainelee3609

Every major music entertainment platform that's on RU-vid should tell his story because he's a part of hip hop history just as any other young MC coming up! Imo his first 2 albums are instant CLASSICS! He's been out of prison for nearly 3 years now. As far as I remember he's been putting together an audio book about his experiences in the industry and in prison. He as of lately been putting out singles here and there. So he's been keeping his nose clean handling his business and staying away from drama. We've been losing our hip hop heroes since this year started. I know that we're all going to die before our time and it's unavoidable but we hope that we don't lose Shyheim. He has much to fulfill. God bless him and best of luck! 🙏.

I always saw Shyheim as 'BABY METHOD MAN".; As if he was the first of the second generation of Wu-Tang. If anyone was paying attention, his voice, mannerisms, and even his look was almost identical to Meth's.

Peace to Michael K Williams. That was hard. Imagine Shyhiem tryna play Omar. That was around the same time. If he doesn't get the role of Omar, you know Hollywood loves to play copycat and get another dude with a scar on his face. That was dope my man

This is great! I enjoyed watching this! I definitely remember Shyheim, a young Wu-Tang associate. Way advanced b4 his time. I remember him on the movie Original Gangsters, film in my home town of Gary, IN. I'm glad that bro is out of jail and doing better. Keep that heat coming! P.S.: You must do a stunted growth on Remy Ma (if you haven't already), Rapsody, 112, and Saweetie

I had an uncle who was always on drugs but always loved rap. It could literally be a guy who made an album on his basement and my uncle gonna bump it. I will never forget he was telling me his love for rap and he picked up Sha's album and was like I love this album so much and I grew up listening to this album and I was like you do realize your like 30 years older than him

Hard to Earn also came out in 94 which is fuckin excellent album. Gravediggaz first album, Kieth Murray, Dare Iz A Darkside which is really underrated now, Artifiacts, Organized Konfuzion the stress album, Bone Thugs first album and Craig Mack, Beasties Ill Communication plus Digable Planets :Blowout Comb which is probably the most underrated hiphop album ever and one of my favorites ever. That year had some real big all time great albums that had mainstream success and some that had underground success and started the rebirth of the underground rap renaissance. There are also SO many singles and underground releases from this era that are absolutely amazing and got almost no recognition . People without shoes, Parallax , RBL Posse , Dream Warriors, Magnum Opus, so many others its insane. Also let us not forget that two shelved albums from 1994 that were hyped up and never released began the careers of 2 of the biggest names in underground hiphop. The Whooliganz unreleased album would of came out in 94. The Whooliganz was Alchemist and Scott Caan. They were discovered by Cypress Hill and added to the Soul Assassin lineup on tour and signed with Tommy Boy but for some reason it was shelved. Also the group called Crustified Dibbs which was also a duo with RA The Rugged Man and Da Nigga Niles. That album was most likely shelved because of how completely fuckin insane RA useta act back then and unlike ALchemist he was black balled from the industry because of it until he created his own path back through the underground just like Alchemist did. Anyway there was alot of history made that year. Also there was Shaqs second album. LOL. I personally rate 95 as the greatest year in hiphop history but 94 isnt far behind.
