Every time I watch the scene where Holly lost it over the roses, it breaks my heart. Her spirit is so broken. Luckily, she had a strong support system. She probably would've lost her mind.
Michael Zaslow should have won a basketful of Emmys for his brilliant portrayal of Roger Thorpe (though he did win one). He should have won one for the 79-80 season.
In a way he did. Supposedly, GL's 1980 best Daytime Drama Emmy was largely due to the "Hall of Mirrors" segment with Roger and Rita, so while neither he nor Lenore won acting Emmys, their performances in those scenes won an Emmy for the show.
Yes, they look like typical homes that people would actually live in. The sets of soaps today look like Barbie's Dream House, or a house in The SIMS. Very unrealistic.
I'd never seen any of this with Philip in the hospital. Poor Jackie. I'd never seen Ed's kitchen from around this time. I prefer it to the one in his "larger" house that we saw in the early '80s episodes. Everything with Floyd and Katie is such fun. They really were the only light relief on the show at this point. Of course comedy was pretty new to soaps like GL to begin with.
Ken George Jones Though the Spanish style and decor of the kitchen is different, the layout is almost exactly the same from the double ovens to the island and over to the position of the patio door. It seems as though it was the one set (the whole Bauer house in fact) that was kept the same the longest...especially the back patio.
Michael Zaslow and Maureen Garrett were both in their 30s when they filmed these scenes, but they looked like teenagers with their round faces and untamed hair. They both should have won Emmys for 1979, which was a powerhouse of stories what with Alan and Hope on the island, and Ed and Rita’s bedroom issue. I was 13 and that’s how I learned about that particular issue...from Rita complaining in her head. LOL
Holly's reaction to the roses being sent to her was very heartbreaking. It was her Birthday and instead of being happy, she broke down and ran away at the sight of them. The thought of them being sent by the very same man who violated her completely gutted her at that moment. Very sad to watch.
You need to watch the episode from November 1977. M.Z. wasn't in the episode, but Maureen was. She was so young in that episode. She looked like one of my old Barbie dolls with her pretty paisley ensemble.

Tom Nielsen (Floyd) may have been different in real life.......but I could NEVER SEE what Lisa Brown (Nola) saw in him! I ALWAYS thought she and Michael Tylo (Quinton) had deep feelings for each other in real life!
