This tribute was so wonderfully done! This is what made Guiding Light such a special soap opera. The only other soap opera to pay such tributes to long working people was As The World Turns.
when Bert left it was the beginning of the end in my opinion. The Bauers belonged as the center of the family. I did like it when Rick would talk about Bert years later. Rick ended up being the only Bauer left. Sad.
when Gale Kobe came on as Executive producer and Pamela Long as head writer, at some point, there was 'regret' over having what they referred to as 'de-Bauer-izing' GL..yes, that was a very big mistake..this can also represent one of the things that helped to change daytime television into the wasteland it is today.....
They weren’t ever going to acknowledge Charita Baiter’s death on the show at all until viewers demanded it. It was over a year after CB died that Bert died.
And that's what Mr. Marland excelled at! Family! His writing is what attracted me to GL in the first place! Yeah, I noticed that the people at Bert's "funeral" disturbed me, too, when I saw it a few days ago...unfortunately, the writing regime from a few years before decided to phase out all of the Bauers (stupid!), so when the matriarch of the town DIED, there was no one there to represent her, except Ed, Maureen and Rick. Marland even handled the death of David Stewart on ATWT w/expertise!
I was a teenager with no life!!!! I saw your appearance on WWTBAM! Very impressive! GL was a passion for me for a few years...when the writing sucked, I basically kinda tuned out (1988-88, 2000-present)...
@Andorian323 Well said. The Bauers should have remained the focus of the show. I think if the show remained focus on the Bauers, it may still be on theair.
Nope, it's not Trish Lewis, either...she was gone by then. Staytunedfor seems to be on the right track with it being the nurse named "Amber", since Bert was a volunteer at Cedars...did Alicia kill Charlotte Wheaton (her own sister!) with a phone? I just remember that Ms. Wheaton was found dead in a hospital bed during the "Claire is pregnant with Ed's baby" story...
A great tribute! Only question, why was Mike Bauer not there. His character should have been included at the memorial. Actor Don Stewart was on this show from 1968 through 1984.
Good question and I have wondered the same thing. Head writer Pamela Long Hammer and the powers that be couldn't find or (didn't want to find) a decent storyline for Mike Bauer, so he "disappeared." A shameful exit for a good actor with plenty of history with the show.
@@lucasdonovan432 Don Stewart left the show of his own accord to move to California. P&G wanted to kill Mike off and Pam long persuaded them to simply write him out so that he could come back in the future. Also Pam wasn’t writing the show when Bert died.
No, it's not Calla. Calla did not know Bert Bauer during her time in Springfield (the actress had already passed away by the time Calla and Jessie came to town)...the lady in blue does look like Calla, though...
The Barbados story was Summer/Fall 1984...then the Beirut story happened in early 1985...the Charlotte Wheaton murder happened in Summer of 1985...around the same time that Fletcher and Maureen were doing the "Fletch and Mo" radio show, which made no sense, either...
Calla may have been there to support Lillian or Ross, since they were involved. Or, it might be Trish Lewis (Rebecca Hollen)? Yeah I agree though--the Alicia Rhomar/Charlotte Wheaton story was pretty dumb--murder by rotary telephone! LOL
Yeah, Alicia killed Charlotte with a phone during the lull between the Barbados/Susan Piper story and the Beirut story. It was kind of a dumb story. Was Claire pregnant with Michelle during that time? I thought they hooked up in Beirut. Its a little fuzzy.
in the words of florida evans "goodtimes " when they tell her james is dead Damn Damn Damn she passed same time my father did broke me then i'm still crying ......how lovelg all of them holding hands because for one moment they are mourning the loss of bert bauer .....
Don't remember Amber, at all. I honestly thought that that lady was Alicia Rohmer, the murderous WSPR newscaster...a dumb storyline that I was slightly captivated by...
