Guild Wars 2 - Unlocking Skyscale - Quick Guide 

Everytime I think I want the Skyscale badly enough, I come and watch this video. And then I do something else.

The devs who did all that skyscale collection, they are all sociopaths

I'm getting a bad feeling that every new mount will be much harder to get than the last

holly hell these requirements are insane. Even the griffon at 250 gold sounds stupid expensive but this is at a whole new level.

as overwhelming as it might seem to get the mount, I do like the thought that went into it. We are hatching an intelligent creature. just as we trained and taught Aureen we need to do the same for the mount.

As a fresh level 80 from Steam I understand none of this but this guide seems pretty detailed and clear to follow. Thanks and it looks like I have some work to do.

Okay, so i'm the kind of player that absolutely hates: jumping puzzles, convoluted collections around tyria, and time gated stuff. HOWEVER, the skyscale collection is ultimately not that bad, you just need to learn to take things one at a time. I'm doing it with my sibling (who is admittedly a very skilled player, but honestly you can achieve the same results with the wiki opened), and WITHOUT checking guides, we got everything done in like a week, granted we played quite a lot (played a lot in the week end and at least 1hour a day during the week). This means that you can have it in like 2 weeks if you want to take it slow and easy. Compared to legendaries it's pretty chill. The return to achievements make the currency thing very quick, the skyscale growing is very rewarding (more than most collections like poster child imo), and you get the dopest mount of the game as a result. I would recommend doing it, you just need to take it easy, and do it as intended (after having enjoyed te lws4, and bit by bit). It is my first big string of collections/achievements as I've always avoided those and sworn to never make legendaries. But this gave me the confidence to go through more challenging content in GW2! And remember guys, when you get annoyed, just drop it and do something else, you can come back to it later! don't hesitate to use tools like the wiki and TACO extension to help, and relax :)

I just got done with the saving skyscale collection, where you have to take the eggs to different locations. Took me around 4 hours to complete, even though I had most of the waypoints unlocked. Tip: For the ice collection, you can go to the area of Claw of Jormag event in Frostgorge and find a few veteran ice elementals. They freeze you as well.

it will be better to mention that number of 5 of each season 4 currencies can be purchased with volatile magic vendor in dragon fall with volatile magic per day. It saves tons of time to farm currencies.

I started this jorney thinking it was only one collection 😂😂. Then it quickly turned up to be a second one. I did both and discovered there were 2 more and I thought to myself, well, I did half of it might as well finish it, and here I'm farming map currencies 😂

as a new player to this game i'm confused to the maximum with this meticulous grind. LOL

Just got all my mats for skyscale in a month of playing on my way to the skyscale now! Let’s gooooooo

Starting this collection I had mentally prepared myself because I heard it was so bad but to be honest it wasn't half as hard as I expected. Yeah maybe if you try to do it in one go it can feel a bit of a grind but if you divide it over a couple of days, there's your Skyscale mount. Not a big deal at all especially considering the horizontal progression of GW2, these kind of collections is what gives you goal to keep playing imo.

I was pretty discouraged at the mountain you need to climb to get Griffon and Skyscale but honestly once you finally get them it actually feels like a big accomplishment. It takes work, dedication, and brains to get them and it’s way more satisfying doing it this way than in WoW where you just buy with gold. The achievements are well thought out what you’re actually doing. Feeding and growing your little baby skyscale. I love it. The only major gripe I had doing it was that they time gate the feeding and have to wait days (daily resets) to finish that part. Please change that arenanet.. Otherwise it was worth the journey for sure.

Arena is just trying to their best to keep people stay in the game as long as possible, but people are leaving because of those nonsense collection.

This doesn't seem that bad. For a game that doesn't have a gear grind this gives you a reason to log in every day or so.

Me: "Cool, I have raptor, springer, jackal and skimmer, I'll get skyscale next" *watches guide* "I don't know if I want skyscale anymore"

Ugh. I just unlocked the collections. This is going to take forever, for a mount that I've never needed or wanted. I'm going to take my time doing this for sure.

Oh god fucking jumping puzzles. I hate them as much as the entire questline for this mount. It should have been a reward if you have played all stories.

Wtf.. I can't believe so many ppl have skyscales. It means all of em completed this torture. No way i'm gonna complete it xD I thought i'm gonna watch a guide and go do skyscale but now i think i don't want skyscale anymore.

Im at the last part of this. Just need a few more map currencies and i'll unlock the Flight achievements. Ty Tekkit for your markings! Made gathering map currencies SO much easier. Honestly when I first saw the wiki guide, this looked extremely intimidating but in reality it's not that bad. Most achievement steps are pretty fast and painless. The most annoying part for me were the jumping puzzles sooo i just bought like 10 treats and skipped them all.

I'm surprised that it's actually way easier than it looks after I started. I'm currently on raising skyscale and I did all the return achievements in about 12hrs to get each of the 250 ls4 currency.

This is a bit too much imho... The time gates and stupid events just makes everything harder since most of the time to complete an event you need more than 4 players, and most of the time you're at it alone, plus if you work IRL its virtually impossible to complete this...

What a freaking nightmare!! This is so much worse than the griffon tasks. I saw people have a skyscale on the first day. How was it possible with time gated stuff?

Pro tip: If you dont want to spend your entire youth farming season 4 maps and you have some extra volotile magic lying around, the volotile magic vendor in Dragonfall pact camp sells ALL season 4 map currencies (except the newest one) at a rate of 20 volotile magic per 1 piece of currency (basically 5000 volotile magic per whole maps worth of farm), with one exception being the one from the 1st season 4 map which is 1 currency per 4 volotile magics. It might save you some time ;)

I had no compelling reason to get a Skyscale in the first place...now that I know about the absurd lengths that one must go to in order to have one, the Skyscale is a symbol of foolishness!

The second stage of the collection will be opened two hours after the end of the first.

As a new player myself I think this mount is aimed more for veterans. Unless you want to spend money to get it faster. I'm okay with that. It's a pretty sick mount and I love grindy games like this so I don't mind the work you need to put in. I'll add this mount to my goals for this game. I'm currently working on getting Jackal then the Griffon afterwards which I heard costs 250 gold so I'm going to start farming up ribas.

EIDT: 2 months later, I did it, I have my skyscale, it was alot of work, but worth it. I wish they would just add the take off and hover ability to Griffon, because after watching this I am never going to be able to get skyscale, it's too overwhelming.

So, everyone flying around on a SkyScale did all of that?? Oh my god. And to answer your question, yes, this looks overwhelming. Although your quick guide is great, it doesn't change my mind. I guess my raptor, springer, manta ray-thingy, and jackal will be fine... but it sure would be nice to fly around. Is there some sort of in-game check list, progression, or something showing what your next step should be (like the quest system)?

Thanks for the guide. I understand not all information is accurate anymore (time gate is only 2 hours now, thank god). Seems daunting still, but a few hours a day and I'll have my dragon doggo

Arena Net 2012: We don't want our game to feel like a grind

i'm glad the SoTo method exists now, i did what i thought was a good amount of the achievements. i did ALL of LWS 4 and i got the mail, but i'm lost now with seemingly no direction and i'm trying to do the achievement "How to feed your skyscale" which can only exclusively be done on Kralk island, and unless i'm mistaken is not necessary to do. And the thing that was stopping me from chasing doing the SoTo method was needing the 50 Provisioner Tokens. Seems there's alot more i'd have to do if i continue doing the LWS 4 method. 2:50 Saving Skyscales this seems to be the part where i'm supposed to be at right now.

Finally got it today :D. 13 days (50h of gameplay). That was fun and quite straightforward. (No puzzle done here, they are all avoidable)

I didn't want the Skyscale until I finally got my Griffon last week. Now I just want to be able to Bunny Trick, into Skyscale climb, into Griffon so that I don't have to scale buildings and the like. Griffon is life but it would be nice to have an elevator to start.

Holy Hell man. I only needed a Springer to break the game. Rarely Raptor, and rarely the Mantaray/Stingray. And only Sand dog in even less fewer specific spots. Never got the Beetle, too hard, can't figure out what the heck it wants. But Skyscale is insanity.

I went around the map to collect the scales. Then around again to deliver medicine. Then again to do eggs. That part alone broke me. Way too repetitive.

Why did they make this grind so long, hard, and expensive!?!?! Its not fun....

Got it in like a week,it looks very long and difficult but it's actually pretty easy and kinda fun if you take it step by step.

Unlocking the skyscale sounds miserable. I think when the developers came up with all of this, they forgot that games are supposed to be fun.

I quit GW2 a few months after the release of Path of Fire and had no interest in returning, but when I heard about the new Skyscale mount, I immediately headed over to the website and began downloading the game. After watching the first 2 minutes of this video I instantly cancelled the download. Crafting my Ascended gear was pretty irritating for me and this seems to expand (negatively) on every issue I had with it; time-gated crafting mats, collecting ridiculous amounts of season 3 daily mats, and stupid amounts of arbitrary gold requirements. Maybe I'm done with GW2 for good.

Guys, it does look overwhelming at first, it is time consuming, but the whole process is actually quite easy and straightforward. I just got my Skyscale and thanks to Tekkit's & TaCo Markers it took me exactly 5 days of cesual gameplay and about 100G because I bought almost everything. So, don't give up on it, give a try, spread your wings and fly!

I always thought Skyscale is part of the Path of Fire story. 😆 I guess it's more difficult than that. Rightly so imo, gotta do some work to get a mount that basically lets us skip everything.

A full quest to get Skyscale

Grinding for the Skyscale made me stop playing this game. I actually didn't mind the Griffon grind and cost. GW2 was always my favorite because it has always felt like it respected my time, until I started working on these collections. At least I'll have it if I ever come back, hahaha!

At least it sounds easier then a zodiac or anima weapon in ffxiv

Griffon was pretty easy to get. Frankly if I want or need to use a skyscale in Dragonfall, I’ll just grab a free one. The grind looks daunting but then I just finished War Eternal yesterday 😅. Who knows, may get “there” some day!

I finished this a long time ago. My wife wants it, but has Griffon so she isnt too set on having it. Figured I'd see what it takes to get it. I hate that I have to do this, AGAIN!
