GUILTY GEAR STRIVE - All Character Models Comparison (including Season Pass 1 and 2) - Xrd Rev2 vs Strive - Side by Side - [4K-60FPS] All the game captures, editing, thumbnail were done by me.
That's a theme with characters who die in GG, they come back as a shell of their former selves, with at most one or two qualities they had in life. Zato & Bedman are the other examples besides Faust.
"We talk about 'survival of the fittest' a lot but all that really means is the skilled live and the unskilled die. Since you're clearly in that second group, maybe pick your fights a bit more carefully? Do you understand what I'm saying? It's never going to matter how much you 'want it' when you're up against someone who can kill you with a sneeze." -Bedman
It’s interesting how with Xrd’s graphical design, it’s deliberately trying to mimic older sprites with its jerkier movements and saturated colors while Strive has a more down-to-earth flow with its focus on 3D graphics. Down to how they look, you can tell that each game is a completely different experience.
@@cooperlittlehales6268 the new characters like goldlewis nagoriyuki and giovanna are really boring but it's a case by case basis for the returning characters. i play sin for example, and i think both designs are good in different ways. however, some characters like may and bridget are super boring compared to their old game counterparts (plus they pretty much look the same as each other). sol and ky are also just straight up worse.
@@user-lo6iq2lu1g he was always kaida inbalanced mentally, early games took his "sanity side" as someone that is tryimg to look better and inofensive, and by that he is trying to atone his sins of the past by somehow becoming a joke of himself. But now he changed again, he isn't that fine but he kept looking forward to never be like that one thing from the past.
Also lets remember that in Strive the shading is dynamic, while in Xrd each character has their own shading independently of the actual lighting coming from the stage. Making Strive's designs feel more grounded to their sorroundings and Xrd's designs more 2D looking. I feel like in some stages the shading in Strive really shines while in others it doesn't as much, while Xrd is pretty uniform. I honestly can't decide which style I prefer, they both look so good
I love xrd more when it comes to animation (the limited 2D feel really had its charm to me) but I love strive when it comes to the design of the characters, for the most part. Both game are amazing and people shouldn't argue about which game is better since they are both aiming different thing with their art direction, we should all appreciate how great guilty gear as a franchise is
@@ratedr7845 true everyone just has boring office/day clothing or shitty techwear now. the game may look better on a technical level, but strive has way less personality.
@@eebbaa5560 that's a very narrow way to see it. if you pay attention to most characters in xrd their outfits were all staying too close to the formula of previous installments of the series. besides strive's designs are obviously trying to show how the world is moving forward. in the year 21XX it would just feel weird to see everyone still looking like high fantasy wizards and you're also missing the point of both games doing something different. both are good, learn to enjoy both.
@@tsugu9146 everything you just said sounds like cope and doesn't really prove that the designs are good. you can still have a more futuristic style for the characters without being bland. different doesn't automatically mean better.
@@eebbaa5560who in the cast looks like they are wearing office clothing? the only one who is, is Giovanna because she's a rougish secret service agent. but saying that is like blaming answer's design is boring. and i guess ky, but why would ky be wearing his military uniform at this point. so looks basically exactly like xrd, the only differences is that his jacket has sleeves and his shirt doesn't have a cross and isn't skin tight. and then characters like nago, bedman, faust, potemkin, zato, ram, testament, asuka, jack-o, baiken, anji, i-no look like they do, i don't see what you are saying. sorry if i'm sounding mean.
@@meeperdudeify Overall, Xrd. If there was a way to put Strive’s designs (specifically, character design) into Xrd, then I’d buy Xrd. As it is, I’ll stick to Strive.
@@metube1744 Allow me to elaborate. When I say style, I mean the way the lines & colors are handled, such as the thickness & strength of the colors. For boldness, I mean the way the animations try to stand out & are out there with what they do & how they do it, plus the rigidity of it. For design, I mean the way everything flows together, like how the colors on the characters compliment the world better & the lines feel more cohesive. For gracefulness, I mean how the animations are much smoother & how the lines flow into one another better, & is overall more fluid.
Some characters like Millia and Leo had a serious glow-up in Strive. I love Millia's overhaul in Xrd, but that bright yellow mustard color makes her look like a plastic doll. Leo Whitefang's design wasn't too bad but his jacket design in Xrd looks rough, I can't even tell if that's his hair or not and his color palette was a bit problematic.
@@PyroLink06 to be fair that’s most of the faces in strive compared to xrd. Honestly I think Milia and May are great examples of that. Both looked so young in xrd, but now clearly look like adults in strive, which is great since they both are.
I absolutely love Baiken's intros, they're almost exact polar opposites of each other. Xrd has her walking away into a field and smiling like a badass as the screen clicks from colored to black and white. While Strive has her walking into the battle away from the field and the screen already being black and white before she cuts the color into the frame.
I already liked most of Strives redesigns but what I didn't realize was just how much better the posing and stances on the strive cast are. So much of their posing reads much more clearly in Strive over Xrd.
I noticed that too and while the elegant poses are very cool, I like Strive's better due to the fight seamlessly changing to the victory screen. Feels super smooth
I even noticed in some of the small things, for example with Ramlethal, they make the little Lucifero flying dude behind her much more visible/clear in the idle animation
@Ginika-qv7oh I don't really agree, but you're entitled to that. The main problem with XRD is that like 70% of the animations are unreadable because there's literally no transition frames, the characters just start their moves almost immediately
beautiful edit, especially love the music pausing in ino's and axl's intros and the music becoming lower quality to match baiken's theme was a nice touch too
Just more than that, idle poses got changed since XRD is just AC+R animation wise. Didn't even notice how they gave the posing style a lot more clarity and consistency until this video lol
Strive's character design is simply stunning. The clothing matches the characters so much, this is out of this world. Sometimes there's little change compared to Xrd for characters that had a recent rework like Baiken or Potemkin. But looking at some characters like Sol, Ino, Axl, Sin, Millia, Leo, and Ram I'm impressed that they fit so much details on their outfits, still keeping the key ideas of the original one. They're so unique, and yet they perfectly reflect the character's identity, while all being on the same art style with a mix of simple clothes and overly complicated coats and belts. I just love it. Also, I can't stop to appreciate how some weapons were treated. Sol could be one more anime-sword-fighter we see in most fighting games, yet, in Strive he wields one of the most unique swords I've seen, it's a perfect mix of the concrete slab Order Sol used to wear, and Fireseal. It has details everywhere, burning magma-like lightning effects inside. Sames goes for Ram's great-swords, they are perfect versions of the previous ones, overflowing with details, yet so harmonious.
I think strive should've still followed the more dynamic intros and outros from xrd, even with the more realistic style. Some of the idles are also a bit too static imo, but others do feel more natural while still being exciting
@@nathandam6415Unreal Engine 3, which XRD runs on, is severely hampered by its restrictive bone limit for games like XRD, where as UE4 supports more bones
@@nathandam6415 animation in general is way better on strive. problem is, Xrd was leagues more stylized and cool, i really miss Xrd character intros in comparison
Bro I cant even focus on the video when the music is slapping this hard in the background! Great job with the timestop effect and the mono audio effect on baiken's intro.
Only things I hate about Strive's animations are the intros and outros for some characters not being as dynamic as I'd want them to be. Otherwise, most of the designs are way better (minus Ky why isn't he a twink)
My Design Preferences: 1 Sol , Strive 2 Kai , xrd 3 Leo, xrd 4 May, xrd 5 Ino, Strive 6 Axl, xrd ( I hate both ngl lmao) 7 Melia, Strive (but both are great) 8 Sin, xrd 9 Jacko, they're really similar but I like Strive's red hair more. 10 Chip, xrd, Strive's is overdesigned (despite that usually being my guilty pleasure). 11 Baiken, Same with Jacko, I think the colours and contrast are better in Strive. 12 Ram Val, Strive 110%. might be my favourite redesign. 13 Faust's versions are really different but I like the darker feel of Strive's. 14 Zato, xrd. 15 Green strong guy (idk forgot his name), xrd. 16 Bedman, Strive. Xrd - 8 Strive - 8 perfectly even. cool!
REV felt like everyone had a bad hair day and their clothes were a toss up of Clasic designs from MS to Accent Core and Whole Overhauls, while Strive Definitely went on to be its own thing, while still referencing some greatness (Except in cases like Baiken and Millia where they got a major overhaul already so they just tweaked them a little and voila, greatness retained and improved upon even). I enjoy both games honestly for what they tried to do with art styles, even though I prefer Strive Also Heavy Day is the goat of GG Intro songs- EDIT: Man you didn't have to go THIS HARD with editing! Especially I-no and Axl
I wonder what the art direction for the next installment will be. So far we've got shonen, weekly anime style. Now we have movie-esque style. I feel like the next art style should really push their graphics pipeline, because technically, they're still doing things very similarily as with xrd, just with enhanced visuals and different style. Maybe, something that allows for dynamic cell shading (e.g. the thickness of the brush by an artist can be controlled to exaggerate certain areas of a drawing, and in animation, can be very important.). This would be cool to see actually been emulated, and maybe even showing different brush styles, so the outlines of the characters can appear to be brush strokes in overdrives etc. They set the standard on anime graphics that have still yet to be replicated to the same degree. Now imagine them pushing it further. (I'd actually like to see them tackle a spider-verse fg, since the characters are in different art styles and the shaders used are very intresting due to the comic origins. Actually, maybe just have the next GG game have characters in different art styles. Ky based on a good fanatasy manga like berserk. Sol, if he appears again, just straight up be daisuke's old art style that is rooted in rock. May obviously a very cartoony one. Imagine Axl being based of british comics like the Beano comics.)
Although i liked most redesigns in strive the intro and outro animations have a lot more flair and personality and also flow to them in xrd If you look at some of the visually outstanding xrd characters like dizzy and Johnny their xrd intro and outro animations look better than they do in strive
2:09 Is it just me or is Leo's stance less guarded in Strive than in Xrd? Edit: Should've mentioned this to begin with, but -- the music editing is on point with this vid!
Strive is an evident upgrade in definition and animation, but the better game (and still hell of a looker) is Xrd Rev 2, for me... At least until they bring back to Strive: Instant Kills, put real cutscenes (or ending images) to Arcade Mode, and also bring back my favorites: Dizzy and Jam. There were other "shortcuts" taken in Strive, that were full blown things in Xrd Rev 2, but they are not very worth mentioning.
I felt that way too but strive has grown on me too the point i love them both the same and am happy they did something fresh rather than expanding further on what started as SIGN. Dizz and Jam have a real good chance, fan favs. as far as instant kills theyre cool animations but in actual gameplay i dont miss them. hardly even notice because in actual pvp gameplay they are basically never used at high level. i have been seen them worked into the end of combos people did on me a small number of times but other than that, its usually a clumsy last ditch effort that hardly ever works on a human because a raw IK come out slow and televised.
I seem to like most of all the ggx compared to stride they seem to be more lively in x like i like all the intro and outro but compare them to stride is just look water down on stride stuff like the witch just zoom in on guitar is so cool but they both look good at the same time i think it just x give off more personality compare to stride
Todos muito bons, mas prefiro o Guilty Gear XRD pois lá os personagens são mais atraentes, tem mais animação e tudo o que a gente gosta de ver, como acrobacias e muito estilo!! 😍😍😍😍
Is it just me or are macro-animations of characters here better in XRD? Obviously Strive’s little animations are better, they’re arguably the best for any “choose your character” game EVER. But the entrances and exits for the most part are pretty boring in comparison. Idle animations are also much more body movements in XRD, strive is mostly chill letting the micro-animations shine
really hard to call, but i think towards the end i decided i like the older game's simpler lighting system better. but most animations are better on the new one. idk both look fantastic
I really love looking at this, both Strive and Xrd's designs and animation look equally great just in different ways. There are only a handful of things I can say are just better or worse in one or the other (like, the fact that I-No's hat covers her eyes in Xrd just looks ridiculous), everything else is equal, yet different.
My XRD vs Strike Design Takes Sol: XRD > Strive Ky: XRD > Strive Leo: Strive > XRD May: XRD > Strive I-No: Strive > XRD Axl: Strive > XRD Millia: XRD > Strive Sin: Strive > XRD Jack-O: XRD > Strive Chipp: Strive > XRD Baiken: XRD> Strive Ramlethal: XRD > Strive Faust: Strive > XRD Zato-1: Strive > XRD Potemkin: XRD > Strive Bedman: Strive > XRD So Overall: XRD 8 and....Strive 8 Damn, gotta wait til the next Guilty Gear or more DLC's to break the tie XRD did have a bit of an unfair advantage in that every mirrored design like Potemkin and Baiken were just gonna outright look better thanks to the more vibrant shading and significantly better textures.
