She clearly did not do a single offside mirror check which she should have done several times and particularly before the island in the middle of the road.
Keep in mind, this is from 2014.... watch all of it, if you want, or cue it to 2:40 for the whole point of what Mikey was doing.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9N1iw5Vdim8.html
this is a driver who failed to check her mirrors for about 5 minutes straight... being in a slow moving queue does not mean you can just zone out! I'm both motorist and cyclist and I think that's shameful
In most US states, the car must be off the road and the transmission in the neutral or park position. Some states may require the engine to be off, but I doubt that an officer would cite someone in that circumstance, provided the driver was in a parking space and off of the road.
I genuinely thought this would be another vigilante cycling channel but... As a motorcycle commuter in London (pre covid days) I've seen so many distracted drivers that I think Mike's efforts are commendable.
I am so grateful that people like you exist. As both a cyclist and car driver, I can fully appreciate the serious dangers that distracted drivers pose to other members of public. Thank you so much.
I'm sick of mindless idiots driving while using a mobile phone, I see it every day. " I only do it when I'm stopped", yeah right! We'll never know how many accidents or even deaths you have prevented Mikey but you are a true legend and you are making a positive difference....respect 🙌
I would not have noticed him, and I do not use my phone whilst driving. I also do not really check my blindspot when in heavy traffic unless i need to change lanes.
This person being completely oblivious is amazing. Back in 2015 a man here in the States, in San Diego, died after falling off a cliff while fixated on his phone. He was on foot. Adding in the weight and power a vehicle has, it's amazing that people would try to defend it or deny wrongdoing.
I would not be surprised to see that in the year since this woman was caught, that she will have slipped back into texting/browsing whilst driving. Too many people live on their phones and just can't break the addiction.
That was actually shocking! She was so engrossed in her phone that you were able to sit in plain view for that long without her noticing. When the pedestrians were waiting to cross she was not paying any attention to driving!
You could have recorded her inputting bank details and stolen her identity she was that oblivious. The sort of person who leaves their laptop open on the table while queuing for another coffee. If sitting in traffic is so tedious you need distraction, either put the radio or some tunes on, or walk to your destination.
Don’t give up, you are doing a sterling job. I have witnessed hundreds of accidents on our motorways, some fatal due to these selfish types. Well done sir. I admire you.
This clip should be used in training courses to show how distracted the phone makes people, a ban for due care would have been more appropriate imo. You just know she still won't have accepted that she was wrong either.
I really think that people who do this would see this video and not think it applies to them. Oh sure SHE was distracted but THEY would be looking at the road much more while using their phone. It's the mentality that the rules don't apply to them that is the issue. Some people just need points and a disqualification to get them off the road for everyone's safety. I do hold out hope that maybe some people change their attitude after the safety courses though.
Deserved every penny of that fine. Blatantly comfortable with lying. The kind of person that would deny they did anything wrong if they caused a death on the roads.
Never mind a fine and points, it should be an automatic 3-month ban on conviction for first offence and a 1-year ban and car confiscated for a second offence. Maybe that would get the message across 😡
I dare you to "fall off your bike" in front of this woman's front bumper and lie on the ground, she'd run you over and still be scrolling through google until the bump snapped her out of it! She didn't even look up to move her car ahead each time 😯
As a young driver myself i find it incredible how many "Self entitled Londoner workers" young and old feel like it is a great idea to do this, and only with your evidence we can get them off the road, Surprised that the police don't hire Cyclists to monitor this.
Mate it’s not just London it’s all over the UK. The problem is they don’t think they’ll be caught and even if they are the points and fines are too low. I’d really like to see either a 1 year driving ban or better still have their cars taken off them and sold at auction with proceeds going to help solve crime.
I have seen a vid of a police officer on a motorbike with a helmet camera purposely out to catch people using their phones whilst driving and pulling them over. But their needs to be a whole team of them hired all over the country . Im sick of seeing people distracted because they are using their mobile behind the wheel. I've had people hit me whilst I'm stationary because their on their phones. Swerve at me on the wrong side of rd because they looking at their phones. And I wasn't there but a few years ago a young guy hit my nan but running a red light and i have to wonder if his phone was a distraction! Thank god she was OK. Luckily! But she was frightened and battered and bruised and she's lucky the shock alone didn't kill her and so is he. And like I say I wasn't there so I don't know but these days when u hear of a driver being distracted and making a mistake its the first thing in all our minds... we're they on their phone! Anybody who thinks cycling Mikey is a moron is a clearly a shit driver clearly incompetent and shouldnt be allowed behind the wheel of a death machine and clearly a shit excuse for a human being!
@@wokeupandsmellthecoffee214 with a name like yours I heavily doubt that your driving is always 100% within the law. Hope you can take your lumps when they take your bike and auction it off because you wanted to push the limits on a quiet open section of road.
Should've had her license revoked for that, insurance invalidated and vehicle impounded. This crime needs to be treated as seriously as drink driving, 1 year ban first offence, 18 months 2nd and so on. Great work Mikey. 👍
People who use phones whilst in charge of a motor vehicle should be banned for life. You cannot accidently use a phone whilst driving. It is a deliberate offence, resulting so many times with people being killed, or injured.
Obviously current fines etc mean nothing, how about an automatic 12 month ban with a £1000 fine, and having to retake a test, whenever they can fit you in ? well, we can all dream!
Can almost understand someone replying to a message or taking a call but she is literally just aimlessly browsing the Internet. Why someone would risk fines and losing their licence for that is beyond my comprehension
I'm glad you let the clip run, I laughed the whole time (what a dipsh-t). I loved the cabbie giving you the salute, he knows the value of your efforts. all the best, Mikey.
Nice job. I ride motorbikes and it is so annoying to see car drivers on their phone. Its scary how they drive when they are texting. I caught a driver a couple of months ago that strayed the white line because he was going around a blind corner whilst texting. Needless to say i reported him, especially when he tried to deny it but i had proof.

The fact that she was so oblivious to your presence despite you being right next to her window demonstrates how entrenched some people are with their phones when they should be concentrating on their driving. Some might argue that it's permissive when in a slow moving line of traffic, but it only takes one lapse of concentration to potentially cause, what could be a lethal accident. But as usual, they never think it'll happen to them, until it does, and then they're sorry. Too late by then.
Good Job Mickey :) It reminds me why I put my phone in the glove compartment. Its connect to the cars speaker system. I will only answer when i am pulled over and to my partener when she calls 3 time in a row. We need more people like you.
i was a van and lorry driver for over 30 yes and this act is now the cause of more accidents than actual bad driving. people can not leave their phones for 1 min. should be compulsory to put phones away whilst in charge of vehicle. pity few more dont get done
These people need to completely lose their licences, not just points. I nearly got T.boned the other day by a bus, whilst riding my bike because I had to go around a phone users car that was sat on a green light at a crossing. His positioning was awful and gave me no choice to go to the outside of the lane. Great job Mikey, keep them coming!
I am a motorist and I am delighted you do this. Too many lives have been lost due to selfish, arrogant phone users when driving. This includes Malcolm Petherwick phone using murdering supporter.
It's great that you caught her doing all of that craziness. I did think it would have been awesome if you'd had an airhorn towards the end. She would have crapped herself. But to be realistic, she was so unaware of her surroundings, she probably would have smashed into the back of that cab. What a disgusting show of driving. I'm glad you caught her!
I totally agree and applaud the action you are taking. But noticed once a motorbike having to go around you. You are going up to the side of the car then slowing and stopping whilst you film and when you chat to the motorist. I think potentially ur creating a dangerous situation to overtaking motorbikes who wouldn’t expect you to come to a halt when overtaking. Also woncoming traffic could easily be distracted by the altercation who might be concerned for your well being or the motorist. Just think it’s a fine line you are treading and have to be careful about.
GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. There is no data to protect here. The woman was clearly flustered by being caught out that, rather than just apologise, she said the first thing she could think of to try to excuse her actions - and made an utter fool of herself too. Well done!
I hate this phone fiddling idiots in the car. There often standing in front of the traffic lights and they are missing to drive on when the lights are green.
Came to see the driver using it a little bit when they were moving... was still surprised at how much and how unaware of their surroundings they were. Plus perfectly comfortable lying and making appeals to authority - that's GDPR that is!
@@kierenkd Last year, when extinction rebellion were about, the council said they would get rid of the cars on that stretch altogether because of the idling pollution. It was supposed to be bikes and taxis only.
I am totally speachless of her arrogance and how oblivious she was for a vast length of time. People like her should be restricted to getting the bus because they don't appreciate how dangerous a vehicle can be in the wrong hands and clearly don't respect her licence.
Keep the good work up get these idiots to pay the price, I had a good friend who was in her car waiting to pull out of a junction, when this young woman on her phone smashed into her with her car both drivers were seriously injured my friend is still have back problems from this accident so when ever you get these idiots comment on what you are doing I hope these idiots don't go through someone driving in to them on the phone!
Even in slow moving traffic, I'm checking my mirrors often. How can she go for that long without noticing you right at her side? Screw the 6 points and a fine, these people need their licenses taking away.
She even has her reading glasses on to look at her phone, then has taken them off near the end. So she had planned to be looking at the phone for a length of time
Two genuine questions.. 1, Can a complaint be made if the police refuse to view or act upon any video evidence taken in this way? 2, How do you find out if the person faced prosecution and what the outcome of that prosecution was?
The fact that she had no clue you were filming her for a minutes is scary!! She clearly had no awareness of what was going on! Horrible selfish woman putting peoples life’s before her need to look at a stupid phone!
I love how she becomes so indignant when caught! I've used computers since the C64, I'm a computer systems engineer by profession these days. I absolutely love tech and all things related, but I simply can't understand why people can't put their phones down these days. We're a nation of zombies, transfixed on the little devices in our hands, oblivious to the world around us. It's really sad to see. People think I'm crazy for being so anti-phone considering my line of work, but the majority of people who actually use tech for a living, and understand it completely, seldom use their phones in such an addicted manner. There are some interesting papers from Silicon Valley which show the higher ups for the majority of the websites people are addicted to (Facebook, Twitter, TikTok et al) rarely let their own children near the websites because of the damage they cause. Not only do they distract you from the world around you, they absolutely destroy your self esteem and attention span. They hook in to people's addictive tendencies, the websites are specifically developed with this objective by design. Put your phones done, whether you're driving or not, and do yourself a favour. I went to a friend's going-away drinks a few years ago and I always like to observe the world around me. At a table not far away was a family; father, mother, two children. The mother and kids were all sat there on their phones while the father was sat there looking at them. You could see he was thinking "what am I doing with my life". He'd taken them out for a nice meal and an afternoon out the house and the three of them simply couldn't put their phones down. He looked utterly depressed as a result. I caught his attention at one point and shared a knowing smile. I love technology, but I hate what it has done to people.
Great work! Absolutely no excuse for using a mobile behind the wheel. My only concern is with confronting the drivers afterwards when you already got them on video. There are some crazy people in London who will kill even if someone looks at them the wrong way. Stay safe Mikey and keep up the good work!
