Hi everyone and nice to see you again! As usual, the weekend was the busiest time with accepting and rehoming guinea pigs.
On Saturday we welcomed a group of 11 cute guinea pigs. Due to private circumstances, they could no longer live with their owner. Initially we would get 7 males, later the previous owner asked if 15 animals were also welcome. Ultimately, the old owner managed to rehome four of them herself, so 11 cuties were still looking for a new home. The first four animals were two pairs of boar that were less than two years old. Very beautiful long-haired animals that also looked well cared for. The other 7 guinea pigs had been taken over during the month from people who no longer wanted them and they had lived together in one enclosure for the past few weeks. It involved three boars, two of which were quite young, and four sows, two of which were still small. We assume that all four girls are possibly pregnant. They therefore have to stay for another ten weeks and we gave them a nice place in our office. We want to keep the smallest male with the adult one, because the first one is still a bit thin and therefore still needs to improve a bit. The other male, about 5 months old, seems very friendly in character. We therefore first want to check in our shelter if we can perhaps pair him with an older male. If that doesn't work, he will be castrated soon so that we have a sweet and young castrated male available.
And we would like to put Rif and Raf in the spotlight! They were brought last month due to lack of interest and they are about 2 years old. The boys are a bit reserved, but with some patience it should work out fine. They are handsome and, like many other guinea pigs, they deserve to have their own place. We hope that they will flourish more in a homely environment. And of course it's just really nice when new owners can really enjoy them!

Welcome in our animal shelter! We are located in Dongen (the Netherlands) and we take care of guinea pigs and some other small animals that seek for a new home. Many of these animals stay with us permanently at our welfare centre.
Our welfare centre for pets Beestenplein attributes to a better animal welfare in many ways. Amongst others by offering natural petfood, by our E-magazine and E-learning, by helping other animal shelters and via many other ways.
