If I ever end up playing in front of anyone, I just found the attention getting 1st song!! Looks like a real exercise in finger dexterity…Thanks Tom!! Duane 🇨🇦
Tom I actually was blessed to see Arthur Smith play Guitar Boogie at a local concert he had here in Lincolnton NC. Probably late 1990s. I'm 64, and grew up watching Arthur Smith's TV variety show and on the radio I listened to him often. After the small venue concert I attended I approached the stage to shake his hand Hopefully. Didn't happen. He Being an older fellow stated he was very tired and had to drive home and brushed me and others off. He lived about an hour away. That was ok because we all loved him and still do.
@@tomcon21 Forgot to mention Arthur " Guitar Boogie " Smith was playing a Fender Antigua Starcaster semi hollow body when I saw him play. Guitar Boogie. Fabulous Guitar I don't see much of these days.
Hi Tom, Perfect timing! Just finished up Secret Agent Man and won't be long when I can play it live. I have always wanted to learn a REAL Boogie Woogie to take the place of what I have been playing for a long time...and this is it! Excellent as always! My inventory of Tom Conlon's covers that I can now play are growing in my library. Thanks, you are the BEST!
Acually I’ve learned to play it. It took time, but now I’m able to do it. The fingers works automatically now. From the start I failed every time I exercised it and was close to give up, but one day suddenly the brain accepted to play every bar without any big failer. I’m still surprised I don’t miss any notes even if I feel more confidence to play it. You’re a great inspiration. The difficulties is the speed, but one day that will be perfect too. I’m very close to manage it. Good teaching Tom.
Good for you! It took me quite a while to learn this song too! And even if I don't play it for a time (mostly to learn some other of Tom's songs) I find I still play it reasonably well. It is a lot of fun to play! Have you learned any of his other covers?
Fantastic cover ! What playing, what a sound ! Anytime I pick my guitar up I always play some form of 'Guitar Boogie' so many versions out there. I have a soft spot for the Bert Weedon version some licks in this sound similar
Thanks for uploading this lesson, it’s one of my favorite songs by the Ventures and I love playing this including Bulldog. Now I’ll see if I am playing it right.
One of the best guitar instrumentals of all time. Great cover, great guitar, great video. Thanks for all you do Tom. Greetings from the Czech republic. 🎸🎼🎧
“Such a professional performance as always Tom. I assume Nokie played on this… can definitely hear the Country/Rockabilly( ‘Nokie-Billy’)guitar influence.”
If I can learn your cover of the ventures cover of house of the rising sun, hawaii five 0, and Milk Cow Blues, I can learn this one too. Well done. You should do their cover of Galveston.
muchas gracias amigo aprendo mucho desde tu canal me encanta la onda rockabilly y the ventures y agradezco las tab para practicarla acá. saludos desde Argentina genio gracias por tus clases sigue así!
Hi Tom, just checking to see when the backing track for this might be ready. I can play much of it at speed, and have memorized other parts but still fall apart with those parts while playing along with video. No rush though, just having fun with it! I know this is a lot of work for you and I really appreciate all that goes into your videos and backing tracks!
Great job, Tom. Please do Black Sand Beach, the Ventures covered it and it is a great surf tune that I know you will nail! Have a great rest of your summer!
As catchy as that was and as well as you performed it, it didn't seem so easy to memorize so I'm even more impressed than usual with you. But that's just me maybe it's a weird night loll
..Tom,..can you advise if you just work on a few measures at a time? I can not cease to be motivated by watching this piece! Take care of those hands, and thank you again for sharing all your renditions of great instrumentals of old!
I was wondering if you'll ever do any Pet Sounds stuff? It has been my dream to play the instrumental track 'Pet Sounds' (shouldn't be too hard, but as a college student I haven't had the time to figure it out yet), but I would love anything from the album, really. I've already learned That's Not Me and I just love listening to my own version, haha. Another Beach Boys favorite that I'd love to learn is Shut Down Vol. 2 (another instrumental that shouldn't be too hard; I've already figured out the first part). I just wanted to put this out there, no pressure; I content myself immensely with the songs you've covered already :^).
Wow ! I don’t believe it : there’s two days ago I was saying to myself « I hope Tom will upload a video of the « Guitar Boogie Shuffle ! » and… It’s done ! Wow! Maybe you read in my mind ! lol !! ;-) Thank you very much !
GREAT, as always, and perfect tabs! but I don't understand: there were a 'Guitar boogie shuffle' by The VIRTUES, that is almost identical, and another 'guitar boogie shuffle' by The Virtues with the guitar tuned 1/2 step down (as reported by the the tabs in the nice book 'Rock: the '50s Vol. 1', by Hal Leonard, 1994; the song is on the tape attached)... I never found a record with that Virtues' version played 1/2 step down! so, in this video are you playing the VENTURES version?
Nice video again Tom, thank you. Have you ever explored finnish instrumental music from 50’s and 60’s? Emma, Manchurian beat from The Sounds for example. I think thouse would fit to your style perfectly.
