Great case! When I was a kid I always made my own guitar cases out of old timber because I couldn’t afford to buy them. Mine were made with hand tools as they were all I had, they didn’t look pretty but they did the job.

Recycling one hollow core door at a tome. Love it, shows what is possible with minimal budget.

Up here on the northwest coast, some indigenous nations have big box drums that they use during ceremonies. I think the Nisga’a are the closest nation to mine that use them a lot, they bang on them with their fist, it’s really cool.

I know it's an older video but I was searching for some inspiration for guitar cases. Hollow core doors? Never even came on the radar - clever. If you angle the cut, you'd get two cases out of the one door. Shame HC doors aren't slightly thicker to use for angled guitars. I'm still looking for some ideas on converting the cardboard boxes they come in to cases.

I would’ve put the handle closer towards the guitar body side rather than in the middle (about where the neck joint is). Thats where the center of mass is so it should feel more balanced. Other than that great project!

Hey man. Tomorrow or the next I'll finish my cedar waterbed frame bass guitar case. Love the free wood and the education I've gotten. The mistakes scream at me, but no one else will probably even notice.

Those hollow core doors would make a great cajon! And BTW, the new hollow core doors are cross laminated corrugated cardboard 😉 Surprisingly strong, widely available and completely free. Makes great case inserts and electric guitar bodies.

A future project.....a sitar sounding guitar. When you strummed the guitar in the new case it had a buzzy sound to it. Probably from not being tuned, but it got me thinking! Great project!!! Yep, I've thrown my guitar around like that too, and it hasn't made me a better player! Great proof of concept, Tim. Btw I've always grabbed 'dumped' hollow core doors and I can vouch for their usefulness. [and easier to tear down than a pallet!]

If you do the next version, place the handle off center for the guitar's weight distribution. It won't swing back and forth while you walk around that much. Big difference when you carry the case for a long time. If the test doesn't break it, the test isn't finished. Remember those Peavey-Cases of the T-Models? They threw them out at 60mph, filmed it and it was consider so save that they saved a ton of money on insurance.

That’s pretty awesome. I’ve wanted to make a guitar case for a while now. If you do another one you could use old door hinges to keep with the theme.

Loved the song & the video Tim! Nice work on the case. Just shows what one can accomplish using Junk. Now you need to make one in the shape of a guitar using better materials. OH, and I really thought that you were going to run over the case at the end. What you should have done is put together a bare bones similar case & switched it out at the end & then run over it just for laughs.............Without the guitar in it of course.......... :)

I have hollowcore doors in my house. I once put some guitar strings on them. Sounds good.

I need to try this for my cigar box guitars! Gotta do one especially for my 4 string coffin guitar and doing one in a coffin shape to match would be perfect! I just don't have a lot of power saws, and I prefer the 'rough' look anyway. It goes with the style of cigar box guitars I build. ;) And..I'm cheap...LOL. :)

Honestly, the materials used in commercial cases are probably not much higher quality than this, other than finishes, of course. Have to admit I clenched up a little bit on that first throw. Nicley built to be that durable. And the punk rock guitar song is now officially one of my favorites. I know you've used it before, but I like it even better now. Thanks for sharing!

Nice build! I gave up on hard cases years ago-too damn heavy. What a great song! Seriously, that's a really well written tune. As a 55 year old who has played heavy music since the 80's, I can kinda relate....except I still play heavy music! Nothing is stopping you, Tim. You would probably write excellent punk songs and I'd bet there are quite a few of us older people who would love to be in a band. I'm working on my guitar skills quite heavily during quarantine and am actively trying to be ready when it's over. I still jam with a drummer and hell, yeah, we're forming a band after this. Come on, man. You CAN still play punk rock guitar. Either by yourself or form a band with others. You could name it Reclaimed Society or something...how cool would it be to include a punk song now and then in a video?

Guitars need cases and not bags and they make good, well priced aftermarket cases that fit most electric guitars or half of the guitar designs. The other half require 2 more inches of space, meaning 2 more inches of wood. Wood has gotten stupid expensive but that dont account for cases selling for $60 to over $200 . These are not custom cases, in fact you have to build the inside yourself

I don't know about tolex, it looks awesome. The weathered texture came out great. Most cases Are just pretty cardboard anyway.
