Now because of people like you I am A gear nerd and play 5-6 hours a day! Thanks for being real and caring about this music community thats growing with channels like yours.

They had to go back to “vintage” techniques because they weren’t selling anything with the “modern” crap. The cycle had run out. They went from having great building materials to use unknowingly in the 50’s to pure crappy zinc and crap electronics everywhere in a few decades in the name of profit by business executives who don’t give a crap about music. The public got smarter and informed and won’t spend their hard earned money on crap anymore so they were forced to incorporate some vintage quality of a better generation or die. Going back to vintage materials aka 50’s is the key to musical quality. The real tragedy is that we have lost the vintage processes of making metal components, correct alloys in the wire and hardware. Very few have taken the time to archive or figure this out. But some have. Even though it’s very complicated and we may never know everything about metals produced back then, they found the magic, and I hope we can preserve some recipes for posterity and be able to reproduce what they created then forever. Who know someone could create better metals. It’s obvious though we should start with the winning combinations of the 50’s as a launching point, not the degenerated modern crap components of the 80’s til today. Cheap modern mass produced crap only will inspire more crap

I'm new to this whole guitar thing. When I start something like this I like to know the actual things work. When I took up photography, I learned how light, lenses, sensors, and software worked together to make the final images. It is similar here in the guitar realm. I've learned a lot about how guitar pickups work from this channel.

Interesting points and very good points at that. Its amazing, being a guy in my 50's seeing all the changes of the guitar/amp/fx tech from the 70's thru the 80's, into the 90's and into the 2000's to current. Unfortunately, battling cancer, I hope to be around to see the coming changes in the new decade we just entered. And just maybe, if luck is on my side, into the 2030's...😉

I often wonder about the future of guitar when I watch guitar-related videos. A huge % of them are old farts like me. There's a good reason for that. We're from a generation where bands played their own instruments, and nothing was quantized or autotuned to sound perfect. The humanity and emotion came through. The youtube channels with younger hosts seem to be stuck on chunking the bottom 3 strings with high distortion, after which they shred a bunch of meaningless notes. But I also see some younger players in bands that play surf music, etc., live. I hope that kind of MUSICAL live guitar playing catches on more and more over time.

It's not just the kids doing things different these days. I played acoustics as a kid, then didn't touch a guitar for about 30 years, and got back into them this year, along with my first electric. I'm not even using an amp. I use an ice 100 watt PA speaker with more than one pedal that can act as a preamp, including two that can mimic the sounds of vintage amps.

This episode was pretty inspiring in a way; it made me interested to see what will be happening in this channel because you appeared so genuinely excited about what you are planning. The ideas all also seem good; there are a lot of us out here and we are all different. I am a bit old school (no effects, tubes, a pretty basic tele) but I also have a Quilter (not so out of the box as most I know but rare for me) that I love. The modeling amps the kids are getting into are interesting and I will get them for my kids. My oldest son has a small Roland actually with some pretty good models right now. But his next one will likely sound better than my old school stuff. Anyway, cool post and I am lookin forward to the 2020 shows.

Watching this 2 years later and you totally nailed it. In just that short time amp modeling has gotten even better. The cheap options are good, the affordable options are great, and the pro grade stuff is absolutely amazing. Sure there are purists, and vintage amps are extremely interesting and cool and if I had the funds I'd have a whole mess of vintage or high end gear, but as a bedroom guitarist that just loves trying different sounds, I'll take a NuX Amp Academy that lets me sample a ton of different approximations of popular tones for $200 over sinking a fortune into a nice high end amp.

I totally agree with your point at 3:30. I grew up in the 90s/2000s when modeling started getting good. I owned two tube amps and while they sounded good, they were impractical for me as a hobbyist. I specifically chose modeling because of tonal variety that I need, weight and size of the modeling options, and ease of getting signal into a PA. I'm totally bought in. Modeling is the future for guys like me.

Correct me if im wrong, cant you just flip the order of the barrels and then flip the barrels themselves on the screws? I dont see why not? Seems like using a righty TOM, just flip the bridge and the saddles, in this case just the saddles themselves and the order of the saddles no?
@stevenjefferies9415
@stevenjefferies9415 4 года назад
@@danterosales6985 not neccesarily. I called Fender directly, and "bent" or angled saddles are flat on the bottom and can't just be flipped like I had hoped. At least the bent saddles they had in house were. And the ones that are cut on each side with two angles are not cut on the underside and cant be flipped either. When I called fender, and ran through all these options, they said unfortunately I was just out of luck on getting something compensated. My only hope would be to get a new bridge that could take individual saddles for perfect intonation. Only problem there, the angle of the bridge pickup is STILL lefty specific, and finding a 3 screw lefty bridge plate was damn near impossible. Fender only had 3 left in stock from their American Standard series from the mid 2000s.. Got it in. Tried it. And what do you know, the pick up from solo was milimeters off and wouldn't fit. So unless I got new pick ups too, I was screwed. Fender was amazing on the refund and through the whole process to help me so much with a Tele copy. Basically being okay with competition asking for help. Finally I had an epiphany just last week and bought 2 Wilkinson compensated saddle sets so I could make my own configuration, and I'm going to send back the "extra set". And I don't feel bad about it. They should just package a lefty configuration. Long story, its been hell figuring this lefty tele out! But Fender really won points in my book. Gibson should some some notes!! Haha

Awesome video Dylan !! And I think that is a great idea to try to do 4 giveaways this year of inspirational instruments for folks. Might I also throw in the sugestion of a guitar with a wider fretboard simular as to how ibanez just anounced there 48 mm wide fretboard acoustics. Cause there are folks whom might not have played guitar well cause of narrower fretboards.

I love the ambition and all the ideas here. Very much looking forward to all of it in the coming weeks, months and years. And you mention wanting to build a guitar with EMGs. When you get the chance, would you mind sharing your thoughts on Fishman? I'm just starting a new project to try to turn the cheapest multiscale guitar on the market into a 7-string fanfret prog machine by throwing a Fishman Fluence Tosin Abasi signature set, some locking tuners and maybe a new nut at it, and by adding however much minutia and elbow grease the neck and fretboard will require. But I'd really love to hear your expert insights on that whole Fishman deal.
