Wow, this is so beautiful! I wanted to get one and get Fishman Triple Play to use it's synth with guitar, but this also looks so great 👀 You make me buy one 😄
You have a lovely looping technique. This video made me look into the Deluge, and after a lot of deliberation I've decided I'm going to be selling a load of equipment and get one. The generative looping and sequencing opportunities of the device is mind blowing.
@@Domn879 I did, about a month after the above comment :) And to date, I haven't even touched the audio looping side of the unit yet as I'm having so much fun with the built in synth engines. You won't regret getting a Deluge, especially now that the firmware has become open source.
Thanks so much! Not sure I did much that could make for a very interesting tutorial. There wasn't much to it really. Reversed a couple of tracks to create a bit of texture. And played a little bit with the volume/delay/reverb to get the right balance and ambience. The only complicated part was trying to think of note combinations that would likely sound good both forwards and backwards, so that sounds wouldn't clash when I reversed certain tracks. That was pretty much it 😊
@@TyQuinn as a new deluge owner looking to do something similar - tbh a deeper dive into the setup would be very helpful! mine doesn't seem to record the same way yours does - i have to stop, press record first, then press play, then it counts down and will record. if i try what you showed in the video, nothing seems to respond. so i don't know what step i missed. anyway, cool video and def inspired me to bust out my gear and make some jams
That's really pretty. Miss having you round playing stuff like this. Made me a bit melancholic, keep up the lovely tunes. I know you were a bit down on guitar but you do it well. Love ya man.
This is straight in - nothing else in the chain. Not ideal and needed a bit of noise reduction in RX because instrument level is well below line level. Have since bought a cheap amp modeller which is a better solution. Thanks for the comment!
Love it. I've been a (hobby) guitarist for decades, getting into synths since the pandemic, thinking of getting a Deluge. Nice that it works with guitars too. How does it compare to a looping pedal like Boss RC-3?
I haven't really used looping pedals a great deal to be honest. The biggest advantage of a pedal, of course, is that it's foot operated. I guess you could do something similar with a midi foot controller and the Deluge, but I haven't tried it
hey man, amazing performance and track. just one question - that reverse-play effect you have going on, is that an internal or external effect you're applying?
@@TyQuinnTHIS was the answer I was looking for in the comments. That you went straight into the deluge. Mine just came in the mail today and this is the kinda stuff I want to do.
@@mrpzak Be warned that it isn't really designed for non-line level signals, and doesn't have the same impedance as a regular guitar amp/pedal. But as long as you are happy with those limitations (and the increased noise floor from not running the guitar through a buffer) it'll work.
@@TyQuinn ah ok. I have a tube amp with no line out, and I have scarlet but wanted to go dawless for this setup. So thinking amp pedal or something. Orange has some cool mini ones.
Great! On the Deluge can you overdub a loop, and control the attenuation of the previous recording (in such a way that if you don't add anything the loop slowly fades off at each repetition)?
I'm still very new to the Deluge, so maybe this is a feature I just haven't worked out yet. But I can't think of any obvious way to do this. You might be able to set it up with some creative patching though
@@TyQuinn It's a simple looping function (simple to implement) and allows for great expressiveness (because older loops fade away slowly replaced by "new material") but few grooveboxes implement it (both the MPC and the MC-707 don't). If the Deluge had it I would consider to buy it (I don't want to use an external effect)
@@Algoritmarte The Boomerang looper has that feature and is more geared towards guitar players as it's controlled with foot switches. Of course, it doesn't have all those cool features of the Deluge for sequencing etc.
This is fantastic! I am a guitarist with a recently acquired deluge but have lacked the time to really get to grips with it yet Certainly not live lopping like this but would love to get some pointers from you to recreate something similar! Would you be willing to help me out??
