Guitar players never talk about it but it's a serious concern... The guitars we play are actually positioned too low when we sit and play them....This little device does a nice job of fixing that :)

Hey Tim! I work at 225 parsons in kalamazoo. We build Heritage and Harmony side by side on the same equipment. Your Harmony Comet was made using old Gibson presses, saws, sanders, clamps, techniques, etc. Not everything Harmony uses the old stuff, but some of the steps absolutely do use the old stuff.

“I like to play slow, and squeeze all the emotion out of a note I can”… I so agree. When I’m in need, that’s where I go. Fast can be a blast, but slow and melodic is for my soul.

I think Mark Knopfler would agree as much as I do. Music is no olympic disciplin. It is all about emotions. And sure there are emotions in need of fast lickery and high gain to be transported and expressed but the most of em are on a different planet.

I bought a '339. I liked everything about it, except: 1. it was slightly neck-heavy. 2. the "horns" are closer to the neck and access to the upper frets was very "cramped". I wound up selling the guitar and buying an Eastman T59/V, which I can wholeheartedly recommend. Far superior to the dozen or so '335s I played at my local GCs.

Warren C. is really a great guitarist - his work with Duran Duran raised that band up a level or two musically, but he always played in service to the song, rather than shred (which he CAN do). Light guitars - yes, I'm a fan, since I'm a rather small human (I'm only 5'4" tall). I has a Les Paul style guitar that is just too heavy. Same with string gauges. Lighter is better as I age.

Two points: 1, I just bought a Sire L7, weighs 8.7 lbs. Best LP I have ever played! And 2, I went to trade in a few pieces of gear at my local GC. My contact told me wait, they have a surplus of used gear and they are low balling all trades. Is it the economy (stupid)? I'll wait, no need to rush. Thanks Tim, love your channel and your insight.

i really dig your attitude: "i like guitar playing in service of songs". There is this great quote on guitars in big band context. "Rhythm guitar is like vanilla extract in cake. You can't taste it when it's there, but you know when it's left out." in memory of Freddie Green, who never ever played a solo in 50 years with Count Basie orchestra but provided all the swing that is needed.

I remember exactly where I was when I first heard ordinary world! As a teenager in the early 90s before grunge and Britpop, the guitar was hardly featured in chart songs. As a beginner guitarist I was entranced by the beautiful melodic descending guitar hook, first on the acoustic and then towards the end of the song he does it on the electric. Great great song which took e by surprise melodically and structurally.

I love Tim's playing. Smooth and soulful. I don't care about what "looks cool" or "nerdy". I care about comfort and accessibility when playing. We are not teenagers anymore. However, I would be concerned about whether that tool can have any adverse effects on the guitar's finish. What material is the Performaxe made out of, specifically, where it makes contact with the guitar.
@GiuseppeMottaJay
@GiuseppeMottaJay Год назад
Hi! Comfort and the health of our instruments always come first. As for the PerformAxe, your guitar's finish is a top priority for us. The part that contacts the guitar is made of TPU for the rod connecting the thumbscrews, and we use natural rubber and SBR for the other rubber components. All these materials were specifically chosen to be extremely durable while safe and gentle on guitar finishes.

I rarely lose much money on guitars… and even when I do lose a little it’s almost always when I buy/sell quickly, generally meaning it wasn’t a ‘lifer’, in which case I look at it as I got to check out a cool guitar for a 2-12 months for a very low fee lol…. If I keep it for more than a year, I’m making money… Also, buying local at pawn shops, Craigslist, FBMP, etc then cleaning it thoroughly, a solid setup, great photos, a video and great description represents the best opportunity to make a little money. You have to be patient and it’s kind of a hobby lol, but it’s a lot of fun.

I saw Andy Timmons using a PerformAxe on That Pedal Show a year ago, and ordered one straight away. I had been messing around with various makeshift alternatives, but the PerformAxe does the job very well. I can't use a strap because of "body wear and tear", and just sitting with a guitar over my leg is too low, so I generally suspend my guitars from the ceiling over my usual guitar seat (an adjustable length rope with a short strap and strap-lock that attaches to the front strap button). That works well for my normal sessions, but it is nice to have a guitar with the PerformAxe for playing on the couch in the evening.

I love the fact as a player you focus on the music and the song and not showing off or being flashy for the sake of it. I think blues guitar players do this so often and are often misunderstood and underappreciated or sometimes seen as inferior to players who shred and can play incredible technical things. What isn't talked about as much is how difficult it is in a style like blues is complimenting the music and you need to be able to do multiple things at once at times, you need a deep understanding of chords especially dominant and minor 7 chords, turnarounds diminished chords and a deep blues vocabulary, and technique wise you need to be very good at bends, vibrato, slides dynamics Rhythm skills at different beats, be confortable with swing and boogie beats and string skipping. Trust me there is a lot of string skipping in blues especially since dominant 7 and diminished arpeggios and scales tend not to be the easiest to play, doesnt seem like much but its far more challenging than it seems.

I am shy, and can never perform for a crowd, but somehow I took Classic Guitar lessons ala Andre Segovia in 1974. I learned my Acoustic Guitar should be set on my Left Leg......and my left thumb should never be hanging over the Neck.....complete 2 years of Hating being forced to play.......but I did learn the Language, and can Really Read Music. Never lost the fascination with Music.....I'm not a performer, but I'm an intelligent Afficianado. Your Videos on Musicians and Gear is So Fascinating to me, and you always get the " Tone"..... Wow! I didn't know Harmony still existed. Way back in the early 60's, they made super cheap guitars, and a lot of them were rebranded as "Silvertone" for sale by Sears, "Airline" for sale by Monky Ward's (lol), and lord knows who else. They were in competition with Kay and Danelectro for the U.S. made cheapo market.

I'd really loved to see you do a series on less expensive models like the Squire guitars. Specifically, The Squire Cabronita Telecaster from the paranormal series.

The ergonomic gadget is cool. It basically does what a foot stool does for your playing position but it’s directly connected to the guitar

My currently favorite Richie Kotzen song doesn’t even have a guitar solo… “You Can’t Save Me” 🤘🏼

They are, in fact, made in the Heritage factory. So really solid workmanship.

@@tomfinn8076 i thought that might be the case. they seem to get all the same treatment. plek etc. the comet seems to be the only harmony that isn't a bolt on? i dont mind the bolt on if it means its easier to make for Harmony for a lower price. I wish Gibson would do bolt ons again.

I couldn't agree more about "the song" being the key goal. It's sad, but I get bored with endless riffing and noodling. It's cool, and I love it... but all memorable music has a central theme. Even great Instrumental music has a central idea that grounds the song and makes it digestible.
