I still LOVE it, Scott! It really is one of the best guitars I’ve ever played - especially from a “bang for your buck” standpoint. I’m using it to record an album. Hi Matthew! It’s a little confusing…Epiphone currently only makes one guitar that they have labeled as a Dove but, with two different names. They currently call it the Dove Studio. It’s the EXACT thing as the Dove Pro. There are no differences between the two. They simply changed the branding. Both guitars have the same Sitka, spruce top, laminate maple back and sides, and Indian Laurel fretboard. They even have the same Fishman on board electronics package. I removed The stock electronics and Replaced them with a K&K Pure system, which is a major upgrade. The onboard electronics were OK if you’re just using the guitar as a hobbyist. But, as a professional, it was not adequate for me. I also replaced the tuners with Vintage, tulip style Grovers and of course, I replaced the saddle and the nut with Graphtech Tusq in place of the Graphtech NuBone that it came with stock. The NuBone is just too soft and the strings are through them in no time and cause a bunch of horrible buzzing. So - I put in about $200 worth of upgrades but, MAN, was it worth it. It’s my favorite acoustic guitar! Sorry it took me so long to respond. I have been traveling and dealing with family emergencies. I hope this answers your question. @@nickj.straight783 thank you for your answer. i bought it and I just changed the ropes and set truss rode. Let's say sound is not bad, although I think with 0.13 it would sound better and buy more volume.
@@matthewdebartolo6692 I had .13s on mine for a while and, yes, it made it louder but, honestly the best tone I have gotten out of it is from using .12 D’Addario Flat Tops and Graphtech Tusq picks. It sounds very crisp and brilliant! Good luck to you! Have fun experimenting and finding what works best for you and your Dove!
Totally depends on what you’re looking for! I prefer the Dove because of the crisp high-frequency response. That is due to the Dove’s Maple back and Sides. The Hummingbird has more traditional Mahogany sides and back which produce a warmer, rounded tone. Both have a solid Sitka Spruce top which provides a nice snap and articulate frequency response that will highlight your picking style! You can’t go wrong, either way, my friend! They are both amazing guitars! This video is actually not a great example of how this guitar sounds now. Right you are! I didn’t realize that at the time because the wood is so gosh darn beautiful you can’t tell the difference appearance wise. I doubt it makes a difference tone wise either. I’ve done some modifications to the guitar since this review and it’s now my main axe. Her name is now “Olive” and she’s the star of the show!
