This is a great example of how Prince instinctively knows what to play to enhance and suit the song. Doesn't need to play anything crazy or steal the limelight. Just a beautiful tone
The one after this is fire as well. I live Prince in this era. He got better and better. Thanks for celebrating with us during his celebration week and on his birthday.
Great stuff Brian, I feel so old, I have this gig on vhs, I taped it off the telly haha. Talking of feeling old, a really good reaction would be Lets go crazy live in Dortmund in 1988. My first Prince concert was 88 at Wembley Arena and I have the sweetest most sentimental memories of that time. I still have my concert programme and concert ticket. Thanks for a entertaining reaction Brian.
Getting old is tuff for sure, sounds like a beautiful memory of Prince. I will put that version of Let’s Go Crazy. Thank you for spending time with me and Prince.
Young prince on the phone once pretended he was sly from sly and the family stone, told Chaka to come to the studio. She goes there, here someone jamming in a back studio, "where s sly?" He s not here. "Who are u?" Prince just wanted to meet Chaka. Of course she was pissed. Eventually they kissed and made up. This was a lnice guitar. Original is prob under Rufus feat Chaka Khan. You'd like the guitar intro in their song. Side note, I was today yrs old when I found out Chaka was the side chick in the song "I will love you anyway, even if u cannot stay....." Liked how u talked about the guitar in this
I was at the Wembley Arena concert at this time.... My first gig of his. I knew about the legendary aftershows but had no idea how to get my way in to one of them! Damn my teenage years and the early Internet. This was shown on British TV as a part of the promotional material for the album and I thought it was a brilliant account of the era. Still do. I know Larry gets a lot of flak but this era was contagious. To see Larry do an opening act, Chaka one, then the man himself. It was a riot. Question for you Brian - now that you've seen so many sides of Prince, has your opinion of him changed much from, say, 10 or 20 videos in when you'd realised how versatile he was?
I would say it has widened. Hearing the more adventurous playing, some bordering on jazz/rock is what has really kept me going. I think I have another twenty videos of stuff that is really exciting. I might be slightly less emotional when watching stuff now, but my love and reverence has not diminished.
