Agreed. My friend got me to go see them live. I had never heard of them before but I had heard of deftones so I went. I’ve always like heavy music seen all my favorites live, but this band was on another level the energy was unreal. No performance I’ve seen has come close!
Gojira is the one band i believe EVERYONE should experience live at least once in their life. Seeing them live is just a visceral, spiritual experience. Theres just something about them.
Seen them for the first time 2 weeks ago and they were indeed incredible live, and they played this song towards the end of the set so I can now die in peace
Joe's vocals are actually extremely unique, since he mixes clean voice with growl. There's like a very audible clean tone underneath his very brutal, distorted growl/scream. Its not only really difficult but nobody does this the way that Joe does. Thats what makes his singing so good and original
First time hearing Gojira and I am hooked! Love the funky style and arrangements. Just spent the last 3 hours listening to a couple of their live performances on YT.
Gojira has so many bangers!! With a hugely diverse sound album to album, even song to song. You MUST dig into Gojira!! This is a great song, but not their best…keep going with Gojira. They are amazing
Metal Michael on this fine Friday. Never heard of Gojira until I saw them open for Lamb of God and Trivium. The opening riff was engraved in my brain and they’ve been one of my favorites ever since.
@@SrgntSprnkls77 the LoG + Trivium tour was From Mars to Sirius days before Oroborus was released, my guess would be The Heaviest Matter of the Universe. Sadly, I was still in line to get in when I went to this tour, so I don't know what they played first on that night.
Love that you’re bringing this band to a different audience than normal. Gojira have been one of my favorites for almost 6 years now, truly masters of their craft.
I agree, it is a style, you love it or hate, but cool that ppl are grabbing to it, and explain why they like some stuff. You can be a guitar player, and it may not be your style, but they explain why it can work.
Metal is where you will find some of the best guitar playing you've ever seen! Not that there aren't fantastic guitarists in other genres, it's just metal guitarists tend to do some of the craziest stuff!
This was their closing song when I saw them last month. I had been on my feet all day at work and then drove an hour and a half to the venue and stood on my feet for another 4 hours from when doors opened to when Gojira took the stage. My legs and feet were hurting, I had been awake for almost 18 hours by the time they started but I forgot about all of that. Such a great live band.
Just like we shouldn’t sleep on EVH amps, don’t sleep on Gojira! U know, i love everything about them, their evolution, their sound, their story… And Mario does not use triggers. He’s been named best metal drummer couple of times for a reason. He’s just so musical..
Backbone!! Genius song from a few years ago. I'm pretty new to Gojira too, and am still exploring, but haven't been this excited by a heavy band for years. They are absolutely the real thing.
I was never a fan of this type of music but then I listened to Gojira and I'm simply blown away. I am a drummer and this drummer is so versatile and adds so many different flavors to every song. They made this heavy thing into a melodic type music.
I'm a big fan of Flying Whales by them, it's very atmospheric. That whole album (From Mars to Sirius) is great. Of course, so is this one (L'Enfant Sauvage), as is Magma, and Fortitude, and....well, all of them. Try out "Stranded", "Flying Whales", "Amazonia".
I discovered Gojira about two years ago and I’m so happy I did! Learning all their songs now. Next from Gojira you should check out Pray (Live at red rocks). Amazing performance, this is the song im struggling with now, I´m up to 75% speed on this one, its a tough one :)
And that, my friend, is the Gojira slide. Gojira actually has a song where they only use Telecasters. It's from their youth, but they recently recorded a live version from their studio, it's on YT- "Inferno Live"
Ohhh yes!! Such a phenomenal band to react to! And a nice change up from more blues genres we see frequently. I’d love to see more of the metal and what you think. Fit For An Autopsy is another great band with very clear Gojira influences. Keep up the great work, Michael!
Been listening to the 'Jira for long enough to love that you're pausing, and running it back to piece it together. These French gentlemen are truly artists, and gods amongst men.
Best live band I have ever seen and I have seen bands come and go for over 30 years. They can play both arena and small city venues and bring the same energy, it's been amazing every time I have seen them across the globe, from all over Europe to Latin America and in the US.
one of the best metal band of the last decades , too bad they got very famous just now , they're not shredders or anything like that ,but they have a style that's their own ,if you want more tapping check out gojira , oroborus live eurockeenne 2009..no triggers by the way
That Silver Sky is beautiful!!!! I just bought my first PRS today, a Custom 24. I am so excited and I can't wait to pick it up from Sweetwater tomorrow. Totally worth the 3 and a half hour drive! Watching your videos and seeing your guitars is what convinced me to go PRS for my next purchase. If it lives up to all the hype, it will be my favorite guitar. I played one at Guitar Center for a little bit and loved it so I'm sure this one will be the same!
I once dropped a Goijra song in one of your live streams (L'enfant Sauvage)... You definitely seemed interested, but some of the people in the stream were a little shocked 😁It was hilarious. I believe it was a Telecaster stream. Great choice, very deep catalogue
For the first time since I caught your first video I see a band that has caught you unprepared to replicate lol! I love Gojira, and I love your breakdown of it, makes it much easier to learn to play it!!
After watching their live at red rocks performance, I can confirm that the kick pedals are indeed not mechanical and is actually him playing it. Which makes it that much more impressive
Definitely not but they are an important metal band in this day an age. Metallica is easily one of the most important metal bands ever, Gojira is not that even if they kickass and are important today.
This was the first song I listened to from these guys, I would here the name thrown around a lot. I listed to it, man! It is a feel thing, it just struck me in a good way. Love my metal and this turns around to more groove. Love it.
❤ amazing band. All 4 of them is running at full revolutions and the vocals to me fit in to the music perfectly 🤘😈🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 It's your channel and you make sense of the riffs of cause it would not sound exactly like that❤🤣🤣🤣 I watch you to get a guitarist opinion and perspective I ennoy your channel so thank you very much. You do you brother 🤘🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's funny, Gojira has slowly united the rockers of the world. The focus change from harmonic to stank face in the dirt @3:31 says it all. Rock is coming back babyyyy!
Gojira is easily one of my favorite bands. Michael if you're ever bored, check out Blind Guardian. They're a power metal band from Germany that does a lot of Lord of the Ring lyric/themed songs/albums. Both guitarists grew up being classically trained and it shows through their guitar playing. Mordred's Song is probably a good start. Some acoustic mixed in.
Hey Mr Palmisano! Gojira has a song called ‘Art of Dying’. George Harrison also has a song called ‘Art of Dying’. Could you take a listen to the George track and maybe if you like it could you do a break down? It’s got some nice arrangement and I just can’t figure out some of the stuff George/Clapton are doing in the background but I can always focus on your lessons!
Very rarely comment on videos, but love your channel and following for a long time. That little note bend you do around the 10:10 mark sounds like the opening bit to “God of the Godless” by High on Fire. Don’t need to react, but really cool to catch little notes like that in different parts of the music world!
You pronounce the J from Gojira as a normal J. It's the japanese pronounciation of "Godzilla", it was they're early name but it's a brand so they had to change and they chose Gojira (you can find some early EP on youtube from the period they were named Godzilla btw). Hope i teached u something ahah
Joe is a great singer. His harsh vocals are so emotive and melodic. Dude that requested this is the silliest goose in the pond. Also Mario is a fantastic drummer but definitely not the best in the world.
Kicks are triggered, at least on current tours, confirmed by the drummer himself. He is playing every note though, he’s got some insane endurance during other double kick songs.
MARIO DUPLANTIER uses hybrid triggering on his bass drums so their half triggered and half acoustic so he can tighten up the overtones and stuff and Mario loves acoustic sounds so nothing else is triggered his snare his toms and his symbols no triggers without triggers the bassdrums would sound a little mushy it’s like putting a Guitar distortion pedal on your guitar it helps out the distortion but that’s the only reason why he has hybrid triggering their first 2001 album terra incognita they were completely acoustic but in their next album the Link btw the best the link songs are Rememberance, Embrace the world, and Death of me that album Mario stepped his double bass game up and blast beats so ge started using triggers
Loved the break down...Would love to see you check out Meshuggah, Demiurge. Just discovered this song in the last few weeks and has some of the filthiest tones, grooves and drops I've heard from a band
Gojira is pronounced GOH-ZEE-YAH. It's the Japanese name for Godzilla. It's basically pronounced the same in the U.S., but the double L's are replaced by a "Y".
They'll have a song like this, which I wouldn't necessarily call simple but it feels pretty straight forward... Then they'll have a song like Art Of Dying which starts in 45/16 time 😂
Gojira is pronounced 'Go-Jee-ra'. It's the original name of 'Godzilla'. The 'Godzilla' name came about because Americans wanted to make fun of Japanese people after WWII. If you think about it 'Gojira' is how a stereotypical Japanese person would say 'Godzilla'. Good drummer, but not the best for me. My vote stands firm with Billy Martin (of Medeski, Martin and Wood), that guy sounds like 2 drummers playing 2 different songs at once. Check out 'The Lover' or 'Chubb Sub' for some of the sickest drumming ever. Or better still, the entire album 'Friday Afternoon In The Universe', the guy is nuts. They totally stole the entire Grateful Dead audience.
