Michael, thank you so much for reviewing her song "Georgia". I am 59 years old, and I haven't been moved by anyone's music like this in a long time. I immediately went to her page and subscribed and started listening to her music. She sings so perfectly, so heartfelt that I could feel everything she was putting into her music. I found this song "Normal" and it made me cry. Not for me, but for her and my 30-year-old son. I've known since my son was young that he was gay, even though he didn't. It only made me love him more as I knew his path wouldn't be easy. This song allows me to feel what she went through and what my son went through as they attended church and went through school, knowing, but not yet understanding. I am in your debt for the introduction, and I am in love with her music for the door that has been opened and shared with my heart.
Because of your review of Katie Pruitt's Georgia, I was able to find out she was in Seattle on the 24th of April. I took my brother with me to the show, and both were in awe. Such a powerful voice and performer. I'm going to do whatever I can to get more people to hear her. Thank you.
Saw Katie in a small venue in Chicago about 10 days ago. Our seats were great and about 25 feet away. One of the best performances we've ever been to. Great music, lyrics and wonderful voice. Thank you for highlighting Katie.
Oct 2nd 2023 I got the call at 02:30 to say my Dad had finally lost his long battle with Cancer. I jumped in the car to go see my Mother and confirm what we knew was coming. Instead of my usual go to of heavy music, I put on Expectations by Katie Pruitt. I heard every word on that 45 min journey and she calmed my soul. Sometimes music is all that's needed. Michael, thank you for your sincerity and enthusiasm in all of your works.
Dude, you are also the real deal. Keep telling the truth that’s in your heart and soul. The world needs more musicians like Katie and more people like you.
This whole album really encompasses the idea that for a singer-songwriter you live your entire life and put it into your first album the whole album is very much a conversation with the world about her discovering herself in all the ways that people do
Michael what a heartfelt commentary on a timeless soul searching journey. Well done on highlighting this artist, this journey, your overview. Soul Full. Thanks
Every song on this album is unbelievably powerful! No album since Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos has broken my heart as much as Expectations. Thank you for introducing me to her music!!!
Update: She's fucking phenomenal, and her new album (which came out today) is going to be incredible. My wife and I got to meet her after the show, and she couldn't have been sweeter. Standouts from the new album from what I heard were "The Waitress" and especially, and I can't recommend it enough, "Stand Still". Review it as soon as possible, and if you can, see her live!
Man. It’s really wonderful to see your heart open like this. I’m getting a vicarious thrill watching your vicarious thrill. Real recognizes Real. It’s been nice moment. Thanks for the introduction to Katie. Take care.
I agree! This is my first ever introduction to Katie and I'm blown away with her talent, her voice and her lyrics that I believe will help so many young and old people in similar situations that it's ok you are you and you belong!! Just simply amazing!
That TED talk was great. Watched that after Michael's video for "Georgia". She sang "Georgia" at the end of that talk though right? As in that was the song she sang to them?
Michael, I’m here to thank you for turning me on to this artist a couple of weeks ago! I haven’t listened to anything else since. She is amazing and I can’t wait for her next move. I’ve heard several renditions of this particular tune with different accompanying artists and she amazes in every one of them!
Katie Pruitt -- What a masterful story teller and the arrangement was perfect. Thank you Michael for brining this kind of talent to us. The talent of this young woman is mind blowing and you can hear the simple truth in her songs from the soul.
Yes, Katie is A M A Z I N G! I get gooseflesh a lot. A LOT, when listening to this album! I am 68 years old and I have heard so many beautiful voices in my time, but Katie's voice is soooo powerful, and clear, and pure! Her music is beautiful, as well. This song makes me weep for her... When I first heard her first album, I was absolutely drop-jawed. Her second album just released today--4/5/24, and it is wonderful as well, but "Expectations" is INCREDIBLE! I hope she goes very far! Thank you, Michael, for sharing your thoughts! I concur, 100 per cent! Much love, Russ
I stumbled upon Katie Pruitt’s music, by researching a vintage guitar (of all things), but was just blown away by her voice and songs. My wife and I have become big fans, and we’re looking forward to seeing her and her band in a few weeks. Great video and analysis too!
First and foremost, thank you for introducing me to another wonderful artist. Beautiful melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Also, finding out that Brandi Carlile is one of her inspirations, well, that's just icing on the cake. Love your channel and what you do.
Man I’d love to see you react to Muireann Bradley. 17 year Irish girl who’s being called a blues/folk prodigy. Such effortless guitar playing and mature voice. Give it a shot.
I suffered as an alter boy for 5 LONG f*ckin years. I tried to quit once but didn't work. I heard this song on the radio the morning before I saw your video, so we found it at the same time. She is the real deal. And this is not the usual type of music I listen to. I really like your take on this. Cheers 🥂
Michael, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. As a longtime fan of both you and Katie Pruitt, I was thrilled to watch this. You so eloquently and empathetically reacted to one of the most beautiful songs I know. The first time I listened to the track on her album, I called my sister in tears, compelled to just tell her how much I love her, precisely because of (not in spite of) who she is. Thank you for spreading that love in and through your work. I’m proud to be a lifetime member learning from you, brother!
She has an incredible voice, through which she speaks her truth in such a simple, honest and pure way. There is no artifice or decoration to the words, but there is poetry. A truly great artist. Some of the responses (judgements) here just help illustrate why songs like this are so important.
What a beautiful voice and player. There are some great artists that are going to be the next greats. Have you seen 14 yr old Taj Farrant? He has had 4 singles released in the last year. Crossroads, Cruz, Bad Trip and House Always Wins. They all went to #1 on the iTunes worldwide blues charts. His last song was released the same week of Slash and Brian Johnson's blues song too. He's a very humble down to earth kid. When he gets onstage with his guitar they seem to become one. He just finished performing 4 of the days at the Byron Bay Blues fest and he was one of the crowds favorite performers. When he performs Gary Moore's Parisienne Walkways, Stevie Ray Vaughn's The Sky is Crying or Prince's Purple Rain he seems like he's channeling the artists. There are so many great videos of him since he is currently touring the US and he will be opening for Buddy Guy a few nights this summer. If you haven't seen him here's a video of Taj playing Parisienne Walkways. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PMdqV4xfUe4.htmlsi=eyMYBYYQsKpp0Jsa
I was introduced to Katie Pruitt by your review of Georgia. Went down the rabbit hole. She is phenomenal. Song writers like her are great examples of what is great in today’s music.
The song reminds me a little of Ashley McBryde's "Shut up Sheila". I definitely hear Ashley and Brandi C. in this song. But Katie Pruitt is a true artist in her own right, great lyrics and the harmonic/melodic choices to match those lyrics. Thanks Micheal, another great video and artist-tip.
I think what I love most about your videos, Mike, is seeing someone go through the joy of experiencing music. It's something we all feel, but I love seeing someone going through the process of it. Love your work mate!
@@answerguruThank you for the sentiment. I accepted who I am a long time ago, but I experience challenges just like everyone and I'm not immune from wishfully thinking if I was "normal" things would be easier.
Micheal my friend I've been watching you for a while now but don't really comment to often but I can't recall too many reactions from you that you could tell that you are witnessing a great artist that's has the "it" factor and I completely agree this young woman is absolutely amazing and I can rewind this video and watch over and over and to some extent I already have!! She's amazing!
A current, traditional, Latin praying Catholic here. It is going beautifully, thank you. I pray she is touched, blessed, and graced by our Lord and His Blessed Mother Mary. Here's the same prayer for you Michael. Doc Philip
Her vocal tone is so so good. When she hits those notes they hit me right in the heart. Sure amazing singers are everywhere, literally all over the place, throw a rock you'll hit one, but Katie's voice is like surgical precision spot on both in hitting the notes and in hitting the tone. Glad I'm subbed to your channel or I'd not know of her.
I found new respect and appreciation for you as an actual human from this. No longer some nebulous image on the interweb, but because of your obviously heartfelt and honest connection with the quality of character you're witnessing. You have elevated yourself to someone I'd actually sit down and drink a beer with to seriously debate who is the best guitarist of all time. Or maybe a lighter topic, like how music can save the world. 1 other thing, have you ever played a Moonstone guitar?
She is a great talent! The song is very poetic (which is great music). Your discussion is right on. I will say if one is lucky enough, with age and experience, we find a happy way her song seems to indicate. A small personal add to your comments: at an early age we all need a trusted critic, well beyond our teenage years, who is non-judgmental about who we are becoming; to whom we can tell about anything and not be lectured. Often there is no comment, just paying attention. For me, was a great-uncle.
Katie’s as good as it gets. She’s the real deal. I’m not a member of the LGBTQ community nor did I grow up in the south, but her songs still speak to me. I am an ally of her community. I’ve been following her journey since Expectations came out. I saw her live session on Paste and became an instant fan. That album is an absolute five star masterpiece. It was easily my favorite album of the year back in 2020. It blows my mind that that’s her debut. I assumed she had been making music for over a decade. I just got my hands on a test pressing of Expectations. I also got to see her live at Mercury lounge in NYC which has a capacity of 250. She was even better in person. She won’t be playing small venues for long. She’s the next Brandi Carlile. Her sophomore album came out yesterday. It’s just as good as her debut. No sophomore slump! Like a fine wine… Here’s a list of some of my favorite up-and-coming female singer songwriters worth checking out in no particular order. Michael your ability to describe an artists magic is contagious. But some of those artists must've watched your videos and witnessed your experiences. Maybe you could share some of those back and forth communications and moments with us. To have someone, like yourself, a musician showing such respect to their art must be the ultimate experience for them.? Money, fame, personal joy, etc., are the result of something great. But underneath it all is respect, especially respect from fellow artist. You must be getting replies.? I'd love to watch some of those shared moments.
Katie Pruitt's new album somehow reminds me of Paul Dempsey / Something for Kate. Can't really tell why, but you should maybe give them a listen too, if you have the time.
Thanks so much for the last 2 videos on Katie Michael, her songs have been playing in my head ever since - one thing really bothers me though, how you can get through both of your commentaries without mentioning that she's gay. Both Georgia and Normal are very clear coming out stories and its almost like you've actively avoided saying that explicitly which is doing her a disservice. Love the channel and everything you do, keep it coming.
