@@ryanshawley3302 At least we can hopefully agree, it's not a terrible choice to have! I love JH, but I was hooked on Dave way before JH came into *this* picture. 11/17/98 Calvin Theater, Dave's bass infiltrated every inch of that venue and blasted its way right through my soul. Oh and wouldn't ya know it... Red Hot Mama opener. Been hooked ever since....Nearing my 150th show.... and hoping to pass it if this virus would stop cancelling my live shows!
@@customerservice563 Shine through the blight! Blight is one of my favorite songs that Schools tears it up on! It's been on my playlist a lot during this time when people are catching a disease that is "literally viral".
Tori Dark OMG Yes!!! 💓 mine too! I put it on every time someone pisses me the fk off! It’s pure magic for “not sweating the small stuff”...or small people.... and now I guess small life forms! 🦠
Great video dude!! You did it good and did it fast. No smokin' though... I love that you love JB's voice. I remember back in high school my friends who didn't like Panic said it was solely based on JB's voice sounding so bad. This was around 2001. I've always thought he has an amazing voice. Uses it in so many ways.
And JB skillfully develops it like an instrument. He seems to embody the artists they cover heart and soul, but yet they are able to own it like they wrote it themselves.... This band is so entirely different than anything I've ever seen... they are purely organic.... transforming like... Conrad the Caterpillar... just finding that room to fly. Arleen is a great example of one of those transformations: Original Arleen: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7zn3cSCZv8c.html WSMFP Mikey version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ldyK9NLUKF8.html WSMFP Jimmy version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y07BgKDnyPg.html The fans know how special this is.... and that we are so blessed to be along for this ride!
I have some Stockholm Syndrome on a burned CD, yes I still listen to CDs. I'm not tech savvy, or I would share. So many burned live Panic CDs too. I remember my first WSP show the people behind me got in trouble for having recording equipment that they had covered up with jackets, no idea how they snuck all that in there, it was like 4 ft long and 2 ft wide. Way before Panicstream. Panicstream used to take up a lot of space in the middle of the floor section too. Now you don't even see them.
@Guitargate Dude, Dave Schools is one of the most badass bass players on this planet. He can trade licks with any player. I saw him do it with Herbie Hancock till Herbie gave the nod to him to acknowledge it’s a stalemate. Well done Dave
Guitargate He’s not your normal Bass Player. He will take over a tune at any moment at any show and he has the chops to do it. His neighbor is Mickey Hart from the Dead. They have their own little side band. Sniff em out
Guitargate Panic is known for a second set drums and Dave and JoJo “keyboards” always use to battle coming out of it in the late 90’s. It was epic to behold
I would say Schools is the most underrated bass player of all time but that is because no one outside of the jam band circle knows this band. The whole band is under appreciated.
Thank you! Panic is MY band (nearing 150 shows and a shit ton of miles to see these boys) and a huge PF and UM fan (since snail mail vine days!) & I am loving these WSP clips from your perspective (and the choice clips people are sending you!!! Gotta love the HOME TEAM efforts!) There is just something about the glee this band puts on people's faces, even more so when it's another musician! Hoping for some more WSP when you have the time. Congrats on the baby on the way! He or she is definitely in good musical hands!!!!
I live in Winston-Salem NC born and raised here. In the '90's -mid 00's we had a little venue in town. Ziggy's, all these guys played there coming up through the ranks. WSP, DMB, Gov.Mule on and on. It was a magical time to have been the perfect age in Winston-Salem
I love how excited you get about the music itself and try to put words to the musical ideas that are being expressed, Music IS THE THING, music theory is a way to describe that thing. Too many musicians and instructors seem to reverse those languages when trying to express their ideas.
I’ve seen panic quite a few times and it’s brand new like the first time every time. The joy it brings me to watch other people enjoy/discover is what I imagine being a dad on Christmas will be like when u blow their mind
Well put, he's obviously so alert of what everyone is doing at any time and if he can tell someone is taking a song somewhere he backs off and let's them go with it. They are amazingly in tune with each other and the pest improv band.
@@Guitargate A lot of people don't even know who they are and I was stoked to hear you give props to Eddie. Will look forward to that I also want to dig into what your teaching offers as these videos are fun but I know you have a great wealth of knowledge just by watching a limited few so far. I was turned on by your Divided Sky video. I was way into PHiSH back in the 90s and you were correct in saying they trolled us musically. That complexity was what turned me onto them. Congrats on upcoming new baby. Keep rocking bro!
When I saw this pop up in my notifications i was the happiest man on the planet. I used to play this version everyday for like two years in my car otw to work. Thank you for showing these bad ass bands some love!
Best improv band, the feed off each other and the crowd so much, I love when they a song a totally different direction from how it starts out, best transitions and teases too!
Nice treatment of Pumph Phunk on Red Hot Mama! Great to see you doing more Panic! Just as a Public Service Announcement....Panic and Nugs are doing a free livestream vid every Sunday at 8pm EST. Sunday Red Rocks from the Summer run was the first installment last night! 3 uninterrupted hours of Pure Panic! Great camera work, great audio, just great! Every Sunday at 8EST for the foreseeable future. Search it on You Tube or look for the link on Panicstream. Thanks to the Boys and Nugs!
I’m thinking Surprise Valley @ Peach Fest 2017 with Taz would be great for him to check out. And then he should maybe look into some Aquarium Rescue Unit. Anyone have a great suggestion video for ARU?! He loves Jimmy but want to see him react to the Colonel Bruce and Oteil.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Iu3QlvOTkrs.html Audio is decent but you could perhaps overlay the purchased audio from LiveWidespreadPanic.com or use the best Panicstream recording of this version. I think you’d love delving into the relationship with Jimmy and Taz, and I swear those consistent flashes of golden light is the Colonel joining the fun! (This was a few months after he passed on April 30, 2017, and I wonder if you know the story of Colonel Bruce, our scene’s Daddy and Coach whom we can thank everything bit of the joy these bands have brought us and the family they’ve all created.
Love seeing this music I love so much broken down this way and seeing it from a technical perspective instead of the just letting the music make you move and feeding off the energy at a live show or listening to it for pure enjoyment, blaring it with the windows rolled down. It's like Panic College. ✌️ 💛 🎶
My dude - if they still have it in May, you should go to Panics fest down in Charleston called Trondossa. Umphreys played last year too, but not this year.
Thanks for showing respect for Panic! I'd love to see you do another Mikey video! Papa's Home would rule!!! Anyways, thanks for these videos. Enjoy them greatly!
Lived in Charleston myself for 12 years...such a hidden gem...it is getting over run now.. I was at this show in Charleston... Im from Athens GA so been with these guys since the beginning ...
Haha I was at this one. The crowd was lit both nights, which was awesome considering how blah the crowd was at the tuscaloosa show a few day before that. Charleston has always a great town to catch a memorable Panic show.
Charleston is fun to roll through for a weekend (I'm in Greenville SC), Asheville NC has become a hell of a spot now, but Memphis will always be number 1.
Never picked up a guitar, watched your vid because of Panic. Loved your video. Will be watching many more because of your enthusiasm. My first WSP show was at Joe Riley Park in the mid to late 90's. Charleston all my life.
@@Thegeneralms1 yeah I know. Seen them do it a few times. I was just thinking if he wanted to review a "special" one or something that one would be pretty cool. Any version of them doing it would be pretty cool though
Dave and Jimmy do call and response a lot. Nice to see appreciation for it. A lot of fans in the crowd certainly know what's happening. A lot certainly don't, they just know it feels good
Nice job... I’d love to learn their version of Morning Dew from the Dear Jerry concert. It’s the best version of that song I’ve ever heard anyone do... Of course, that’s only my opinion.... Maybe just a few of the basic riffs. If I find a link to it here on RU-vid, I’ll add it here in a reply. I’ve only seen it on TV. Maybe I can record it and post. Let me know if your willing or even have the time. I’d appreciate it..... Thanks for all you do....😃
Thanks so much for adding more Panic! This one was a great choice. You rock dude. I hope you and your wife have a healthy happy baby. I’ve got another one for you when you get time. Check it out. More panic with Jason Isbell doing a killer JJ Cale tune. Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oXCLxZU5UAk.html
Great job once again-digging that you like my favorite band and dig JB's voice-lots of folks don't. One of the comments suggested Panic doing Maggot Brain-here's a great version I shot down in Mexico featuring Eric Krasno (who is a bad-ass) trading licks with Jimmy. Would love to see a review and wishing you and yours the best with the new baby! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FREb9EWlX1U.html
9:40 the pocket is so damn tight, you couldn't help but jump in. Couldn't stop yourself if you wanted to. Wife going into labor couldn't have stopped you! Fuckin' great!
i did , i was not familiar with that tune. Thanks its a good one. haunting. I looked up rev gary davis . Very Nice. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PXPh7EbB1Tw.html
Dude, I love your videos. I play bass and even just for the knowledge you share, I find these to be very helpful. I watch one of your vids as a brain warmup before practice. The way you analyze and breakdown the essentials of each song is really helpful overall. Great work, love the jamband work you are doing. I would love to see you play some Larry Lalonde of Primus haha!
The tension in the air when a mess of spreadheads cross paths with the Phish kids is almost too thick to comprehend... and what are we at odds about anyway? about which group deserves their fame more? Or the money maybe? I like some bands and others I don't... just like iike i love 'Granny Smith' apples and not so much a fan of the 'Golden Delicious' variety. Can't we all just get along!?! Our friendly 'reacting guitar teacher' described the Dead and how it seemed like Jerry would sometimes be falling across the notes and you often didn't know it he was gonna stick the landing.. (that was not a quote, at best it was a bad rendition of a comment made on an earlier video) but I get that falling feeling with these guys only on a lesser level, and in a very similar way that the last song in their playlist~ I just don't feel like I'm ever surprised or inspired by their playing so much, though there are songs of theirs that I like.. but there's Spreadheads that probably don't like the Allman Brothers Band but that conflict of interest doesn't get near the hate that the Phish/wsp thing... Debate? F I don't know what the hell it is but it's real..
