Honestly, his whole "persona" with his constructed vocal tone is nails on a chalkboard to me. It wreaks of inauthenticity. Like, you're putting on this whole character to sing. Maybe fun for a one off, but as a singer, to adopt this false voice, just feels contrived.
He is a Busker at heart... his show had a part where he had significant interaction with the crowd - he plays his heart out and wants to make sure everyone enjoys the show - if you have the chance - spend a couple bucks and go see him live. I can't say enough about how his vocals pull you into the story he's telling - and he belts it out to throw it in your face. you will not be disappointed with the show. go. be there - enjoy.
@@elcarpe9186 Unfortunately, I live in the isolated far North of Canada, so travelling anywhere down south gets very expensive, but I'd love to see him play live. I always try to support buskers because it takes talent, even if they aren't at Shakey's level.
I've always loved Shaky Graves, but having someone, who understands music, explain and struggle to copy the complexity of his performance, boosts my levels of appreciation for him even more.
@Rachel Forshee people talking about shakey being a great musician some guy 'yeh american folk is good right' no.... we are talking about shakey, the genre literally doesnt matter its all the awesome musical mastery that shakey combines into one that people are talking about. Dont take away from Shakey to boast about how great 'american folk styles' are... kinda rude as fuck and ignorant to do that to anything/anyone. blindside the point people make to say your own thing... bet you have so many friends
No doubt about it. I stumbled across him a several years ago and I've been a big fan ever since. He's crazy good and even better live... especially if you're there music and not the theater.
He did make an excellent document series, three parts about 20 minutes each. Where the drum came from, who made it and on and on...hello gorgeous. Just out, 2020 fresh...guess he had some time with live music being cancelled. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E0rcaJ9YInc.html , basically self taught and evolved.

@@Guitargate Thank you, Michael for choosing my beloved nephew, Shakey Graves' song. I had the honor of being in the next room when he was born (home birth). I also happened to see the placenta that fed him. HIs Mom, my Sis, buried it in the back yard for compost. You have a new fan and subscriber in me. Blessings galore---Anna Maria Garcia
@@annamariagarcia9969 he must not have noticed this comment. it's so wholesome and kind. Your nephew and his music are a gift to this world. prayers for all.
I’ve seen Shakey Graves live in small venues and he’s unbelievable. His musicality is insane. He plays the songs, structurally, the way it’s familiar to you, but his ability to really “play” with the music as if he’s writing it on the spot is stunning to experience. Highly recommend that you see him live. Love this channel, btw.
@@joecoolmccall hoooooooo fire! let's goooooooo! I know what you mean, Palmisano obviously knows his stuff and it's great hearing someone with knowledge listen to this stuff
This is one of the only artists that I can say I saw live when he was playing at a dive-bar wellllllllllllllll before he was found. He sat on a suitcase which was a drum and did a one man concert for about 15 people! Love Shakey Graves!!!!! I bought a freaking CD from the guy (CDs right?!?!?)
Man, I totally re-lived my first time hearing roll the bones by watching this reaction video. I want to say it was 2014 or 2015 when I first heard it. I could see myself making all the same faces lol. It was pure astonishment. Great video. Of course you know a million times more about music so you can break down what is going on, and I’m just a 20 year hack, but it was cool to hear your take.
The stopping and starting for trial and error, finding the note, guitar theory, and musical comments are why I keep showing up. No need to apologize for helping us all out.
This has to be the 10th time I have watched this video just to watch the joy on your face discovering Shakey. It takes me right back to the day I first heard him. Sometimes (like today) I come back and watch just because it makes me feel great seeing your Joy.
3 greats. have a scope at these, maybe you might like. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jY9FrJmAf0A.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aqhv_Pgw6SU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vL2oR_S9S00.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gzDqCcTeSmY.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pktPD-f9DqA.html

Have you seen this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E0rcaJ9YInc.html Building kick drum ...."and so I contacted one of the squirliest people I know"
Sometimes people talk about having a "comfort RU-vid video" that you return to time and time again. This video is mine! I had the same reaction listening to Shakey Graves for the first time and have been in love with him ever since. I'm seeing him live for the first time in October in DC and can't wait. This was also my first video of yours and I am an avid viewer now. Frankly it's been a great way to learn of new artists and push myself to learn more about guitar as I am completely self-taught. Keep up the great work!!
I've shared his stuff with several people and the response is usually meh. General indifference, which I do not understand - at all. What am I seeing that they do not?
I like the fact that half way through you realised you were watching something unique, and just sat back and watched it and enjoyed it. One of my favourite videos on the internet!
Behind the man....Shaky, Just put out a three segment documentary from kick drum creation "I called the squirliest guy I knew" ....to the evolution from single in an old toyota Corolla to tour bus with a flop, evolving to taking an archaic 600 pound real tape, recording machine, on tour. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E0rcaJ9YInc.html
Dude...I've listened to shakey for a few years now and I was just as blown away as you were when I first heard him. I was seriously smiling and laughing at your reaction for the entire video because I love it when someone gets as excited as me about a new, unique talent discovery! Shakey is just unique all the way around and such an awesome lyricist. That alone will win me over every time!
Shakey Graves is such a dynamic performer. He makes a "one man band" look cool. His tempo, dynamics, tonality, and musicality are so diverse. He is the entire package.
You know someone is the real deal when you just put the guitar down and stare in awe for the remainder of the video! Nothing wrong with your usual playing along, I quite enjoy watching you try and figure things out in real time, but it is certainly special to see a musician just stop you in your tracks haha
Spooky Wagons!! ...if you know you know, if you don’t then check out “Late July” acoustic. What a great morning... Little Tommy Bukovac - Session Man AND Michael Palmisano discovering Shakey Graves! My weekend is complete and it’s only just started...perfect! Another great video, Michael. Thanks! ...I agree that you do need to check out “Late July” though.
It’s not often a video fully kicks ass, this one did. Shakey and Michael’s reaction to him had me laughing and in chills. Then getting to the comments and reading the all the love. Damn
Caught them at the last show of the tour in Philly. Blew the roof off the house, I love dr dog and it was their homecoming show but they damn near put the place to sleep after Shakey Graves. So good.
Shakes got his start as a busker. Glad to see he’s getting recognition outside Texas. His Tiny Desk is AWESOME. I recently discovered your channel and love your reactions!
Shakey is an absolute genius, his last album "Can't Wake Up" is one of my favorite albums in years. He has the ability to tell stories and use the music as a tool to convey what he wants people to hear. It doesn't even feel like he's playing music. It feels like he _is_ the music.
I saw Shakey Graves live at the Anthem in DC last September. Absolutely amazing guitarist, and he brought around a band to play songs from his last studio album. He's just a classic Americano performer, telling campfire stories and controlling a whole stage as one guy, playing through broken amps and such. He actually had a whole set with lights that, judging from the interviews, he made himself.
I found this video last night, and man - i've seen the video about 10 times already. The most important factor to me, is the genuine "reacting" - especially the look and reacting you have at 5:34. There is a lot of "fake" and "scripted" reacting videos out there - but you seem genuinely impressed and happy when seeing this stuff and that gives me a good feeling. I also love the fact that you stop the video and try to learn and explain why the different parts are so good as they are. But i love your honest reaction and personality the most. Please continue doing this. Honesty is rare these days. Subbed.
This was so thrilling to watch haha! I love Shakey so much and this is exactly what he does to people-- blows them away and creates instant fans, instrumentally and lyrically. That entire audiotree session is 100% worth a watch, Late July is absolutely insane.
Saw him a few years ago open for Shovels and Rope in Charleston SC. Absolutely blew us away. So dynamic with just guitar voice and and a beat up aquamarine Samsonite. Got a standing O grime the crowd.
It’s so cool to see someone be able to explain this music with words, because to me it’s just magic. This is my favorite song in the whole world and this version of it specifically where he just goes into this groove where he literally is the music. This song scratches an itch deep in my brain and it’s really cool to have someone explain to me why!
As an ameteur guitar player and long time lover of music.. You clearly have a high level understanding of guitar, so I appreciate your enthusiasm for these guys who make music that I respect and emulate in my own way. Hearing your excitement validates the love I have for artists like Shakey, Tyler Childers and Colter Wall. Rock on, brother!
I love Shakey Graves, have been really hooked on his song "Tomorrow" the delivery really gets me. This reaction to his work really made my day yesterday. I also had never seen Shakey's videos before, only heard his music, so this was a double treat. Really appreciate this levity, musical brilliance and creativity at a time that we all need it. Look forward to seeing more of your channel!
I love that you’re taking the really good requests and actually reviewing them! Really enjoying your videos after seeing the Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, and Billy Strings videos! To see a RU-vidr responding to his subscribers and commenters who request is how you continue to get views! Love it!
Seeing your excitement for the magic on the screen is every bit as great as the talent to which you’re reacting. I love your enchantment for the creativity you’re witnessing. It’s infectious! As a songwriter, I dream of people listening to MY stuff with such fervor!
your absolutely pure enjoyment in listening to Shakey Graves made my day, thank you. I had loaded up Shakey to watch on RU-vid, (man, this is my fave song) and your reaction video was a suggestion on the side. so happy to have clicked and watched you, dude, you made me smile 🙂
I’m not even remotely musically talented and this is my favorite music reaction channel by far. The way you talk about music isn’t pretentious but still analytic. You open the music up in a way that a layman can understand but in a way that is still enlightening. You cover all types of music. This is the channel, fam.
Love Shaky Graves so much. My best friend bought tickets for us to see him live a couple years ago and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. Also I think his audiotree sessions are some of his best versions
I love the starting and stopping on the videos. I'm here to watch you react to the song and artist. I also love to hear talk about what's going on in the music. You are becoming my favorite channel on RU-vid especially with artists like Shakey Graves. Awesome 👍
I subscribed just now because years ago when I found this Shakey Graves video I had pretty much the same reaction to it, and no one I've ever shown it to thought it was nearly as impressive as I did. This is the reaction I was wanting to see. Thank you.
Yesss!, I’m loving this new age folk/country vibe you’ve been exploring on the channel lately... we get so technical as musicians it’s been refreshing to see some artists that are 100% focuses on the soak of the song rather than every note being in tune or playing some “impressive” riff... strip it down to the bones of music
Saw your blues collaboration and just wanted to let you know that you rocked it out man, your entrance was stellar. I like you more and more every week. Total respect brother!!!
I've been dabbling with guitar for about six years and I learnt more from three of your videos than the collective total time I've spent trying to learn music theory. LOVED seeing someone react to shakey who can truly appreciate just how great he really is. +1 subscriber 👍
Ive been a fan of Shakey for a few years now. I just stumbled across your channel; it was truly a joy to watch you get in to Shakey's groove. Your appreciation of his talent and grasp of his music merely shows, to me, your own grasp of music itself. Cool Beans!
Been following him for a couple years… I’ve loved his music, but reactions like this make me REALLY appreciate and understand what these musicians are doing in their songs.
Great share, I don't normally follow this style of music in Australia, but now I do. I'm a fan of Shakey now and a subscriber to this channel. Nice work Mike
I know this is an old video, but I just came across it... I love this because its basically me explaining how/why Shakey is so great to all my non-musician friends who have no idea what I'm talking about. 😂
The whole video I was like I KNOW!!! I was so excited throughout the whole video. Love it. I remember the first time I saw that video back in like 2016 and I showed it to people and they wouldn't even react while my mind was blown even more each time I watched it. I just love Shakey and admire him very much. Also hello, I'm new here.
HAHAHAHAH you are definitely a fan now! I found this gem months ago and absolutely loved it. Lately, I have been getting into watching reaction videos and I knew "Roll the Bones" was a reaction video I had to find and yours was perfect! Thank you!
I ve always thought Shakey was as close to an 18th century painter as anyone in music today. He creates these grainy, vast, and abstract soundscapes that are so unique that they can't fall in any genre. Which makes it so cool. My best friend saw him live at a fair in Indiana. He said that performance will stay with him to the grave. He is truly incredible.
I love this series so much. You have reacted to so many of my favourite musicians and Shakey is definitely one of them. He was going to play at a festival here in South Africa in April but we all know what happened... Can't wait for it to happen!
