In this video, I dive deep into the fundamentals of technique on the guitar: what is technique and how to optimize and improve it to become a master guitarist.
I will explore the following topics:
- Proper posture
- Stretching exercises
- The basics of technique
- The role of speed and how to play faster
- The 6 levers to maximize your technique
The tools we will explore will allow you to master any melodic tool (scales, modes, arpeggios) or chord you want to learn while simultaneously making you a better soloist, melodist, and player.

What a fantastic lesson. I was starting to discover how my lack of technique was affecting me while trying to learn songs and now I understand exactly what I have to do. You're a wonderful teacher and I thank you sincerely for the knowledge. Will certainly support as I continue improving 👍

Not that I’m an authority on anything, but in my classical training, anchoring the pinky is a no-no, but makes sense to do it when using a pick. But for finger picking I think its best to free up the pinky and not have to rely on it being anchored to hit the right strings…and its useful for playing certain arpeggios.

It’s not proper, correct, but it’s a very common technique among electric guitar players.

WoW, I really enjoyed the entire lesson and didn't even look at the downloads yet. Having a Solid practice plan for me was missing. I found myself wanting to connect my chords to the Minor and Major Pentatonic scale so my mind could navigate the Fret Board. Then I wanted to practice this foot print and saw your lesson. Thanks a lot. I am not a CAGED system player. I find the difficulty of learning all of the nuances of creating a chord is rather frustrating. I am using triads along the entire fret board on the last 4 strings only within 1 fret for each to cover all major/minor/ 6 positions for all chord progressions. Anyway, it's way more simple for a beginner such as myself with the circle of fourths and fifths.. It was a reverse engineer approach of music theory. My question is what should be a reasonable goal for rythm. I think I heard 80 beats per second ? That sounds really awkward but it may be what it is....?? Thanks for any feedback Davis M.S.M.E.

Hi, Will. Thanks for the videos. Are you currently working on your third music theory book specifically written for guitarists, and do you know about when it will be released?

Hey Will Great video. Been watching it a few times. What i miss in this video is a dive into the right hand technique. Not so much the picking, but the palm muting and placement. Do i lift the hand from the strings or do i slide more towards the bridge. Do i slide the palm across the strings going from E-e. Seems to me that the e- string is hard to mute right. Im figuring out myself, but i dont want to develop bad habits. Hope this makes sense. Your student Thomas here;-)

BTW i love being your student, commiting to the process, following the plan, being part of the group. I really recommend everybody who is into "guitar music theory", to join your program!!!
