Learn how to play this classic Irish folk song, Galway Bay, by watching this easy video tutorial by Flynner.
Lyrics:
If you ever go across the sea to Ireland
Then may at the closing of your day
You will sit and watch the moon rise over Claddagh
And see the sun go down on Galway Bay.
Just to hear again the ripple of the trout stream
The women in the meadows making hay
And to sit beside a turf fire in the cabin
And watch the barefoot gossoons at their play.
For the breezes blowing o'er the seas from Ireland
Are perfumed by the heather as they blow
And the women in the uplands diggin' praties
Speak a language that the strangers do not know.
For the strangers came and tried to teach us their ways
They scorned us just for bein' what we are
But they might as well go chasin' after moonbeams
Or light a penny candle from a star.
And if there is going to be a life hereafter
And somehow I am sure there's going to be
I will ask my God to let me make my heaven
In that dear land across the Irish sea.

Hi Flynner, and greetings from Ballincollig. I made a half-harted attempt at learning the guitar a few years ago and all I managed to do was learn about half a dozen chords, and even at that, I had difficulty switching between them. Anyhow, I am 39 years old, and realise that I will need a hobby for my retirement and beyond, about 25 years from now, so I'm devoting more time to learning the guitar. I was recently made redundant, so I have more free time now!!!!

Wonderful video....My grandfather and grandmother from Ireland, this was their most FAVORITE SONG and mine too....I sing this to the residents in the nursing home where my 94 yr old mum stays. Thanks so much indeed. Ken from Orlando, Florida, USA

Another wonderful old song. I'm a singer and it would be great to be able to chord along with my original songs that I have written. You've inspired me! Thanks so much!

Delighted that I could help in some small way....I am sure you will have no problem in picking up the basics and after that it is lessons or get together with somebody good (and patient !!).............I will be waiting for an album of original songs by the Irish cowgirl............you do country stuff ??????????

Anyhow, I was wondering if you could do a close-up video of the different strumming patterns for these songs. There are a couple of songs in Waltz Time, (3/4 Time, Boom, Jig-ah, Jig-ah, or how ever you like to describe it.) I can keep the time in my head, or even tapping it out on the table with my fingers, but strumming it with the ease with which you do it is proving to be very difficult. Again, could you post a few close-ups of your right hand? P

I am a wanna be player, first generation American w STRONG Irish roots w no talent who has watched/ 'analyzed this video many times. I do not see either the G chord or the 1-2,3 (waltz, boom, chck, chck etc) patter when Brian actually plays the song. Can anyone help/advise me?

I have not done any lessons for a while as had no time but may go for it again in the new year........truthfully it is better when you are in the same room as the pupil. I actually hate my singing on this song as it "does not suit" my voice.
