Michael is the main composer/ creator for the band. They did practice/ create for 4 days before Larnell arrived but the fact that he listened to the pieces on the flight over and created his patterns and rhythms is just crazy good.
Awesome guitarist Mark Lettieri most frequently takes the spotlight solos, but in this case Bob Lanzetti lights it up, and he's really blowing the snark right TF OFF of this puppy!
I just spent an unhealthy amount of time listening to it on repeat. I'm pretty sure this is the first record that I know of with incredibly skilled performances but super easy listening - went to my favorites on Spotify instantly !
Came here from Mr beast and see you react to my favourite band of all time, seen them live 3 times. The universe works in mysterious ways, looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
5:51 He has snom as a second tom and snare. So it was deep snare and he tuned it very low and put hydraulic drumhead to it so it sound very good tom when he opens the snare, and when the snare is closed it sounds very pfat and deep snare. He also has third snare and he put cymbal on it in lingus and he got very good sound of it.
I get the expression. But how does that fit into the context of this video? What are the puppies? The drummers arms? (sounds like a great name for a pub, coincidentally) the guitarists hands? (more like an expressionist painting). I do agree though that if a puppy is sick, a vet should definitely be called.
Larnell has a video out there, for Drumio I think, were he listen's to some music that doesn't have a drum part, twice i think, writes the drum part in his head, then plays it. It's pretty dang cool and you should check that out if you haven't already.
I could easily suggest every track on this album to do a reaction to, instead I'd say buy the album it's well worth it. Bear in mind that this album was recorded live and the tracks were done in 1 or 2 takes and including rehearsals this album was recorded in 5 days, in fact apart from there first 3 and last 2 albums all their other albums have been recorded in same way, in a temporary studio in front of an invited audience. The album after We like it Here was called Sylva there's a track called the Clearing you might find interesting, be warned it's very different from the We like it Here album.
Loved the reaction! Glad to find your channel as a huge fan of this band. Would love to see a reaction to another song by them, "The Curtain". It was also recorded live along with a DVD as a part of their album Sylva. Cheers!
I cannot stress how much this means to me - THANK YOU! 👏I'm sitting on a train smiling like an idiot. Thanks for checking out the channel! I'm still kinda new to this so I'm learning as I go. If you have a topic you want to hear about, just leave it here & I'll make a video on it
I lose it every time I watch these guys and I enjoyed you, someone with the knowledge to understand how super-human these guys are, reacting the same way. I have a feeling you watched the documentary on these sessions by now but in case not, these songs were WRITTEN after they arrived in the studio to record...there was no preparation. Oh, and by the way, you'll notice NO MUSIC STANDS! All played from memory & soul. Elite doesn't even begin to describe these musicians. Peace.
Thank you for your reaction Soyan. You have now reacted to 2 of my favorite Snarky Puppy songs :) I would love to hear your comments on the guitar play of Josh Martin from Little Tybee. If you find time in your schedule, please react to the video: Little Tybee - Hearing Blue at Doppler Studios
Thomas! Thanks for checking out the video! Glad to hear that I've went through your favorite Snarky Puppy songs first! This name is actually new to me so I'll add that to my growing list as well!
Larnell has 3 snares... Master one, regular, one left to it with a cymbal on top and the third is where the low tom should be, tuned very low. Saw them in Marciac few days ago, what a Ride, they played this and Lingus and Shofukan !
Hey dude! Another great reaction. I would like to recommend another band for you to react to if you like this - namely Dirty Loops from Sweden. No guitars but being a guitarist myself I can tell you already that you will appreciate it regardless! Good stuff man keep up the good work!
Hey Boman - thanks for checking out the video! I'm glad you liked it! Dirty loops, this name rings a bell, but I don't know where I've heard it before. Might have been a Spotify playlist and if so, you must be pretty spot on with sounds that I dig - I'll add it to the list! I actually didn't expect to get so many suggestions, but I'll fit it in asap!
Yup, he is using a second snare... there's a video on Drumeo about that... really good one btw... good reaction video man! Definitely check Zildjian Live Larnell Lewis
You can tell that about 80% of this was improvised. I think the only part that probably wasn’t was the syncopated beat that he did in the middle with the guitar. But the fact that you can follow a song like that and do all that just by improvising alone is insane but every member of this band is an amazing musician on their own but when you put them in the other magic happens and that’s exactly what this song is
In a seemingly endless cacophony of average, limited, and monotonous popular music, it's hard to believe that musicians this talented and this well rehearsed still exist and create truly memorable and stunningly original music. A toast to Snarky Puppy and all of the people that still seek beauty and originality in music and commit their lives to achieving it.
@@SoyanOsman There is a video where he explains the SNOM : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GUkQbhu5nfQ.html . As a drummer i found the SNOM so cool that i bought 1,best decision of my life :3
They've been a band long before the recording of that album. The bassist is their "leader" and composed them all. They arranged the whole set in 4 days before Parnell even on a flight
definitely an adequate reaction hahah :) if you plan on continuing with snarky puppy reactions, i think _sleeper_ would be a great song to go for, and in case you wanna go further down the rabbit hole of jazz fusion, i'd suggest you also check out dirty loops - _work shit out._ :D
Love the reactions! Mainly because I had a similar reaction to this album... WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE??? I also recommend Sleeper... some surprises on a different kind of keyboard playing, with a rubber hose. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest another artist, but being a guitarist, you probably already know this guy named Pat Metheny. Pat can do justice to many genres and holds several Grammy records for number of Grammys from consecutive releases, he has 20 Grammys from 10 different category’s and just this week announced a new album, with a jump into the classical realm. Here’s a cut from one of the more rock inspired tunes, I think you will enjoy this and possibly many of his projects of the last 45 years. I’ve been a Pat fan for 41 years and can help guide you to some truly great music, if you want. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RCPfKzIK6Wo.html
Dude, not everyone gets to be a prodigy. Chill out. You work hard. They work hard. You have fun. They have fun. This is easy the best performance in that style of the century. You weren't part of it. But we all get to enjoy it, and if inspires a new generation then it matters.
My best guess is it's a 5:4 polyrhythm over the 4/4 beat. I've listened to this song countless times over the year but that part is still a rollercoaster
@@Soundaholic92 what i mean is the hits larnell is doing are more than likely not 1 2 3 4 in a 4/4 but I automatically latch on to that. It sounds awesome as fuck but a complete mind fuck as you can see by the video uploaders reaction 😆
I have 0 idea what THE HECK Larnell was doing there - I get the rest of the band, but Larnell somehow pulls it apart and puts it together again upside down. I'm pretty sure I could play guitar along with that with a bit of practice but I still wouldn't know wtf I was doing
@@SoyanOsman He has a lot of great songs. But I think a good one to start with is called "All Night Long". It's his take on the classic Lionel Richie song :)
@@SoyanOsman I think his live duet of Best Part with Daniel Caesar is a good jumping off point on his signature way of playing with harmonies. He had a song with Snarky Puppy on the Family Dinner Vol2 album too
Well thanks for checking back in on the channel! Yeah I'm kind of a snarky puppy junkie now. I just love their blend of technicality and great songwriting ^^
Nice reaction! If you want more Snarky, but with a slightly different vibe, check out something from their Sylva Album. Sintra/Flight/Atchafalaya or The Curtain I would suggest. It's an experience.
Spoiler alert: Larnell has THREE snares. His “standard snare, the one on his left is tuned low, and there’s one on the right, that doubles as a Tom as well.
Hey Soyan! 👋🏻 How did you grow your channel to 250 subs BEFORE the MrBeast shoutout? I’ve been really struggling with growing my channel since it started, and I don’t think a shout-out from a huge creator is coming for me anytime soon.
Love Snarky! This song is a jaw dropper, and this whole album is great. If you like jazz fusion, try out the prog rock jazz fusion band Thank You Scientist. All the live sessions are great. I highly recommend.... everything! But FXMLDR at Sun Lab Studios is a good one. Anchor, or Son of a Serpent, at Backroom Studios are also good. Tom Monda is one of my favorite guitarists right now.
