I'm glad I saw this video. So now I know I absolutely need to cut and prune this down a lot. My home builders used this tree and although it looks nice now, but it's too close to my patio and house and can damage it.

I have several young Gumbo Limbos in pots. They grow like weeds here in South Florida. So I finally planted two in my yard this past year. You can't easily kill these trees. There are incredibly resilient and i have found them to be very drought tolerant as well. As far as pests, I recently had an infestation of aphids on one of them, but at the same time, ladybugs started to appear on my young tree and it seems that the ladybugs took care of the aphids for me. Really amazing! I'll have to keep watching for that. Otherwise, the two that are in the ground are doing very well and growing fast.

wow, that's a really neat tree, great form, exfoliating bark, tropical look to it. I wonder if the flowers or fruit are ornamental? Thanks for showing that.

Hi there. The Gumbo's flowers and fruit are not very showy in their appearance. 😀🪴

Is it in the Crepe Myrtle? The bark resembles it very much! Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. 🥰🙌🏼🙌🏼

Hi there! Both trees have some similarities with wonderfully interesting bark, but genetically, the crape myrtle is in Loosestrife family and the Gumbo is in the Frankincense family, so they are unrelated offshoots from Phylogenetic tree of life chart😀🪴

I wonder if anyone has tried to group it in zone 9a. I know its typically south florida native but we rarely get hard frost in the area of 9a that Im in. At least we haven't in years

Hi there, you could try growing the Gumbo, but I would recommend a protected area ( a wind break like installing on the south side of house) away from NW winter winds. 😀 🪴
