I'm no expert but I LOVE having a few non shooters or even a gun grabber or two out to the farm for a little powder burning session... Most if not all found that they also enjoyed burning a little powder :-) They tell me that they are "scared" of guns, but a short 5 minute safety lecture later, they find that the weapon rarely jumps off the table and randomly kills someone!!! Shooting is safe, enlightening, teaches you patience, and, most of all... FUN!!! The young female college students my daughter brought home one weekend were a whoot!!! All were scared of guns, but by the end of the day they were all outshooting me!!! (Did I mention that I was no expert???) If we could all humble ourselves and invite a gun grabber to the range instead of screaming back and forth, I think we could change a few minds and have some fun while we were at it :-) God Bless you gentlemen, and Merry Christmas :-)

Depends on the Mosin you end up with. My first Mosin was trash and I didn't like it much. Only because it was a 91/30 that looked rough, had a rusty bore, and literally fell apart while shooting it. I think my biggest issue is more the tactical elitism a lot of people get when they go to [insert hottest new tactical class] and they think their way is the only way and if you dont go to this course you might as well not carry. Or on the flip side there are some people that feel if you dont have some sort of formal training that you are ignorant on how a firearm works or how to carry one. So think there is a lot of "where is your credentials" and tactical dick measuring in the CC or self defense community. Just like you dont have to be a MD or have a PH.D in medical to have an opinion on abortion you dont have to have to be a Tier 1 operator or plethora of firearms certs to have an opinion or debate certain things on the interwebz.

I'm by no means an expert. Something I have noticed, just in general, I think the most important thing to do once you get your first firearm is to learn trigger discipline. It seems to be the one thing every firearm, no matter when it was made or how much it costs, they all benefit greatly from trigger discipline. What are your thoughts? Some might say muzzle control, but I still say trigger discipline is more important. If you have total control over where your finger resides and when to actually engage the trigger, you can actually safely flag others with the muzzle. Soldiers do it all the time in combat ops, and in the civilian theater, you may end up flagging people in a self defense scenario before getting on target. Training to touch the trigger only when you wish to destroy seems to be the best thing you can learn for shooting. Thoughts?

I try to learn more every day about firearms. Even with over 20 years of shooting experience, combat veteran, hours and thousands of rounds training, I learn something new all the time. As far as trainers are concerned, they are used to training two types. The "expert" and the new shooter. They tend to be highly opinionated and no matter yours it's wrong. I prefer this type of sight, blaaaaaah what's your training I prefer hammer fired, 🔥🔥🔥 wrong That's when opinions clash and they don't teach, they preach. You can shoot your pistol I can shoot mine just the same.

There are a overabundance of internet experts. Especially the ones who pronounce Iraq like EEE-rack instead of 'Eye-rack.'

Thank you! Paul, he’s what you’d call a professional, John Lovell too. By the way, I really like Chad’s idea (suggestion) on holding ones bump in the night flashlight high and outside... displacing my being a target at a loss of some stability; that after watching the Warrior Poet team up with Mr Gunsandgear most excellently teaching flashlight use in home defense- that’s why I have 500 Or 1000+ lumens of psychologically disruptive light in one hand. Thank you all for what you do for helping me judge a right path out of my experimental ignorance (lack of real world experience).

If you walking thru airport security and you had a firearm and forgot about it YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE! Exceptions to everything but the amount of people claiming they forgot is crazy.. CC holders are suppose to be the upper tear of responsible people in the country!

I'm 58 yrs old, grew up shooting firearms and have continued shooting all my life. I learned to reload and some minor gunsmithing. The big thing is I'm still learning today and this is one of the channels I frequent to do so. I haven't agreed 100% with Eric and the gang on everything but that's just part of being a human and forming your own opinion. Paul Harrell is a good channel to check out as is Hickok45, both teachers but in two different ways. I haven't checked out John Lovell but am about to do so. I'm still learning.

Ok, fine, someone needs to say it so I'll be that guy: Military personnel do NOT inherently make good civilian level trainers, even if they were SOF or combat arms. A trainer doesn't just teach someone how to shoot, they also teach them personal and legal considerations. It is a completely different mission, and taking advice from people that A. Can't carry on base in day to day life. and B. Are under a completely different legal institution, is just not conducive to a knowledgeable civilian carry trainer. If they get the "proper" training afterward or become an LEO later, that is different. But even cops often time make poor civilian sector trainers. Another note: There is no such thing as "qualified" in the firearm training community. There is no governing body as to what someone should know or teach, not unlike the millions of "McDojos" that teach janky martial arts everywhere you go. Anyone can open a "school" for any martial art without permission from anyone. Without a governing body saying who can and cannot train people, any fool will continue to be able to call himself an "expert" or "trainer" to the detriment of the masses.

Look up an actual person locally that offers firearms safety and tactical training. Train in three gun , go hunting and kill a would be robber trying to cause you harm. Shoot at least 50-100 different styles, types, calibers and brands. Cheap , expensive and in the middle. Do this and I’ll consider you an expert.
