I remember year's ago when i first started watching your channel. Barry broke down the difference between a AR and AK in layman's terms. "The AR15 is a prom queen, and the AK is a biker b!tch" I've never forgotten that comparison.
It took a while, but I finally found out what parts I need for my 1911.I called pretty much every top end 1911 custom company that I knew about and no body could tell me what mainspring and housing, along with the guide rod and recoil spring I would need for my little oddball. Thank God for Wilson Combat. I finally talked to a customer service representative who actually knew about 1911s.Turns out that I need a Commander mainspring/housing and an Officer guide rod/recoil spring. Now I can start saving up and get a Bulletproof part, one at a time until I can replace everything with the best quality 1911 parts available. Then I can have the original parts for spares. Another great video guys and I'm glad to see Chad back in the saddle. You guys have a great day and stay safe 🙏
Love the AK getting brought up. Having owned a couple and ran them hard over the years, I noticed extractors and firing pins go first and most often. My biggest gripe is how many major components require fitment, sanding grinding ect, to fit as intended, most definitely the bolt being the main issue. Every time I bought a bolt to replace or simply an extra for my AKs, they rarely "drop in" and work. It will often be too big on the locking lugs, so you have to shave it down and basically establish a safe headspace while you're at it. If you know "headspace" you know that's a concerning thing to mess with for part fitment, especially if you're not knowledgeable. Needless to say, most modern designs don't have many fitment issues.
As an AK guy initially, I eventually got an AR to have the best of both worlds. AK is my 1st love, AR is my secret lover. As simple as the Kalash platform is in function, it lacks in smithing, it's kinda the opposite for ARs. Both great designs to me.
@@Akilles3 If you like the AK function but want the benefits of an AR, there options out there now. Obviously weapons like the CMMG Mutant, but also piston driven AR that are side charging. And the best of both worlds come out of the BRN-180. Brownell's run if the AR-180. Literally a side charging, piston-driven, folding stock AR platform.
3D printing makes spring making very easy. People have springmaking jigs that you can 3d print that makes making pistol and rifle mag springs easy as heck.
A backup part for every piece on an AR literally costs under $100. You can make your firearms an heirloom when you pass it down. I wanna see some 100+ year old AR Mag dumps one day.
Loved this video and loved how n sync you guys were in this video. Some episodes you guys tend to talk over each other and it ruins the cohesion. Please keep this same energy. We love seeing you two be happy. 💜🙂🤌
don't know if you'll read this but good on you guys for using the boom mics. I really enjoy your discussion content and it is much more clear to listen to when you are using the better audio equipment.
Numrich has parts forall the weird obscure crap. Little 38 derringers and old davis junk. Amazing people want to even fix them. A derringer had been dry fired so many times the firing pins wouldnt even hit the primers.
I’m glad you mentioned the M1 carbine cause I just got mine from GB it’s an original ww2 configuration underwood I think I’ll order me a spring kit and just save the originals
The AR is so popular, for the same reason that the Military struggled for so long to replace it: and that is because it just works. It's the cheapest to build, it's the best supported and it's always evolving. Everyone keeps talking about the new XM5 replacing the M4.. but lets be real, The spear is still just another AR also. Yes it has it's upgrades, it's piston driven, higher pressure ammo-- but it's still an AR based design. Isn't it something that the only way to replace the AR in the military, is by another AR. I love these things.
A gun is the most sophisticated moving mechanism made and known to mankind. I lost the slide pin to my EAA witness 10 mm one day and I knew instantly I could take a drill bit that fit the hole and grind a groove out on the edge of the drill bit and cut it the right length and stick it right in there and keep shooting and that's exactly what I did. That slide lock pin is $45 by the way
AR15 “oops kits” and pretty much every other parts needed are “bought cheap and stacked deep” from CMMG and Brownell’s plus just about anything that will break on my Ruger Blackhawks and Browning BuckMarks (on the BuckMarks firing pins, recoil springs and buffers are easy to replace but at times can be hard to find)…don’t forget a selection of quality tools (punches, good screwdriver bits, hammer, a good torque wrench and a good AR build wrench that fits your barrel nut…keep the one that came with your particular barrel nut if it’s a propiratory part).
As much as I love my lever actions, shotguns and revolvers+, I love my AR-15s, Glocks and similar pistols a bit more, given that they are more easily serviceable, their parts simplicity, cleaning simplicity, ammo is more easily found for all the latter, as well... Btw-It's great to see Gun Gripes, Eric and Chad (the 2) back! Here, I thought Chad started IV9999?!
It is absolutely valid to pick a weapon you can keep going for a lifetime if needed. Whenever I buy something from say- Brownells or midway, I generally get gas rings or small parts if my budget allows. You never know.
My ak in the corner agrees! I’ve got a few bolt repair kits on hand. Wouldn’t go swapping bolts though because they need to be married to the front trunnion for correct headspace
Another gripe on the opposite spectrum is how most people never use guns enough to even put any measurable wear on them. Guns are designed to run for tens/hundreds of thousands of rounds
@@erniewalden3050 how many guns have you shot into disrepair? Most people have never even broke an extractor. High volume shooters replace extractors, ejectors etc. aside from that they are mostly gtg
Enjoyed your insight. I do have replacement parts for many of my firearms. I also buy multiples of my favorite firearms so if it gets real bad I can cannibalize a firearm to keep the other one running. Might sound dumb. but when I find a deal on a replacement firearm it's cheaper in the longer run then buying all the replacement parts.
I am a huge propenent of having a Muzzleloader for Prepper firearms since Black Powder can be made pretty easily and if you have a Flintlock, you can keep it running pretty much indefinetly. That being said, parts for my T/C Renegade were so expensive and such a pain in the ass to get, it wound up being easier just to trade it for a T/C Hawken which i don't like as much have a much easier time finding parts for
I agree for the most part. Black powder can be "easy" to make IF you know how to grow sulfur and saltpeter. just how long it takes is what most people forget.
Thanks for all the tips guys actually just in the middle of a build of A1 and I'm waiting on my original stock which will definitely be full of parts . Been wondering why I've been missing a lot of drops from ya apparently my notification Bell was turned off. Kind of funny I didn't turn it off..
I like to look at it from the perspective of: If the music stops and all you can find are the parts that are already out there; meaning, what are the odds that you're going to run into someone that might have parts that you need-- assuming that we can't order them new any longer. but Actually, thank god that there is a LOT out there in the wild already. The 2A community is huge and we all seem to have an entire arsenal. lol.. I've still gotten in a habit to buy the little "emergency kits' when I cross them. That have all the little pins and springs for AR's and Glocks.
The 10/22 is still around because it has continued to evolve. With the little charger, and the take down models.. I think there's a marine version.. and I think there's even a integrated suppressor model; and of coarse all the after market chassis options and upgraded parts. But the key always is, it's affordable, and it just WORKS. That's what matters more than anything.
As soon as the military starts to receive large amounts of the new weapons systems there will be a large amount of AR parts and accessories that will be considered surplus and sold off cheap in the future.
Guys, let’s be honest - most of us are not just gun owners. We are gun collectors, or hoarders (or whatever term you prefer). For me it’s impossible to have complete spare kits for all my guns (and I just keep buying more). And I rarely shoot most of the guns in my collection so no big need of spare parts. I just keep full inventory of spare parts for my 3 main SHTF guns, the rest I buy just when I need them.
This is exactly what played into me unfortunately avoiding the P320. I’m down with almost everything that gun has to offer, but 1 - an ejector that’s machined into the serialized firearm is impossible to swap, and 2 - $50 magazines. I can’t drop $500 on a bulk magazine order, I just can’t.
@@Krelian1 Yeah same here. And they didn’t design the P320 magazine with an over insertion block, so people reloading too aggressively with compact frames and 21 round magazines have been destroying their FCUs.
I don't worry about spare parts. I just buy enough guns that I'll never be able to put enough rounds through any of them in particular to need any spare parts. Ar breaks? Just grab another one. Glock breaks? Just grab another one. That's only during SHTF type situations, too. I'll be able to get anything I need otherwise.
A Completed PF940C (Polymer80 G19 Clone) Has A Total Of 38 Parts (If You Includes The Frame, Slide, Pins, And Springs. Also If You Exclude The Useless Metal Plate In The Middle Of The Rail). However A Completed PF940C Is Very Easy To Completely Disassemble And Reassemble With A 3/8 Punch (Especially If You Are The One That Milled It, Drilled It, And Assembled It In The First Place).
I think it should be a personal goal of every gun owner to know Precisely how each of his guns work (how each and every part functions and how to maintain and repair them). I think that'5 a major bonus for Glock5 and other similar guns that have simple designs, making them easy to learn, assemble, disassemble, maintain, upgrade and repair). With modern technology and understanding, there are very few reasons to buy an overly complicated gun anymore. (K.I.S.S).
Good luck trying to find parts for the Para Ordnance LDA trigger mechanism. I have 3 dead LDA's with broken trigger mechanisms. You have to buy them piece by piece from Ebay when they pop up.
I used to collect different firearms and calibers but now I focus on platforms. Glock and AR15 are my go now to because of part, magazine, and ammo availability. Don't get me wrong, I will own about every major caliber of weapon and I buy other guns but I own a lot of Glock 19 gen 5s and even more AR15s.
Yes, dump your G.I. Bill in the Sonoran Desert Institute. An organization that claims they will teach you how to be a gunsmith online, despite the fact that gunsmiths are machinists and therefore require an actual apprenticeship. Honestly it's disgusting that some of these people that seem reputable are still representing them. It just goes to show you that cash is king.
I am big fan of older stuff/c&r…I worry about finding parts at all… but most of all I get kind of tired/worries of clones being bad or new parts… I wish orig mfg would come back more… so parts are vas and quality again in old,old-new,and new stuff again..
Is the idea of the less parts, then the less problems or chance something can go break/wrong always true? Like the 1911 has significantly more parts than a Glock, but is known to be just as reliable?
Try finding a replacement trigger guard for a Savage shotgun. I have a savage shotgun that broke the plastic factory trigger guard. It would be a simple fix had I access to a vertical mill.
This is why I switched to only owning ar-15 and ak47 semi auto centerfire rifles, glocks and czs for pistols. Sold my scar and remington acr years ago.
Yall are talking about some thing that I really need to do and that is I need to buy some parts for some of my guns ........ I have really never thought about that 🤔.......
I've been too interested in buying nylon gear, ammunition, and accessories for my guns for the past ten years that I have neglected to buy spare parts. I know I should, but spare parts aren't as cool as a plate carrier or a high dollar optic.
I say that if I had to choose between an AR-15 or an AK47 I would definitely go with the AR. The abilities to just drop in parts and get much better aftermarket optics is a big advantage in my opinion. The designers that created the AK47 and I do mean designers because it wasn't just Mikhail Kalashnikov who completely invented the AK all by himself never thought about such features for the gun. It really is a disposable rifle that the Russians built in the millions for a conscripted army. The idea of creating a modular system like the AR-15 was never the idea for the AK. Another problem with the AK is parts interchangeability is almost nonexistent because so many countries built the gun to different specifications. Then there's another reason and this is just my opinion but I truly believe AK47 type rifles are obsolete compared to more modern rifles like the AR-15. The AR has better terminal ballistics greater sight picture easier to reload magazines and lighter recoil. It's also much more common if you live in the USA.
Id your like me, your more likely to lose a part for an ar than break it! I lost a tiny spring. I heard it hit my bosses desk. Could not find it. 6 months later we were moving and guess what we found?
A third ar-15. You need at least two to swap between for cooling if you want to keep up a Stalingrad level of defense. Then get a third for when one breaks. Keep improving and modding those three guns and you will end up with enough parts for a fourth.
Side question: Since the coof started, why are so many companies trying to buy people's homes? Is there a new law that rewards refinancing, or are they trying to cause people to own less land?
Those are all likely shell companies for Blackrock, Vanguard, etc. And yes, the idea is to eventually monopolize land ownership (and the concept of ownership in general). These guys are buying houses at 2-5x market value even when it's a fixer-upper, and then holdong onto them with no plans to sell or lease. Falls in line with the World Economic Forum's "You Will Own Nothing, And You Will Be Happy" rhetoric way more than I'm personally comfortable with. Read up on it. Ominous stuff.
Mil-Spec or Standardized platforms are the way to go for the long haul. Mossberg & Remington shottys, ARs, AKs, Glocks, 1911s, Ruger 10/22s, etc... Great episode and excellent topic. 👏
Share and trade with your friends! I don't have much in my parts bag but my friends and neighbors do. Got me a Magpul handguard for a brick of 12ga I've had for a long time. One man's spare parts is another mans treasure 😁.
You are either extremely over exaggerating or just full of $ hit. A quarter million rounds and not even a single part needed changing? Anyone who actually runs guns knows this comment is complete BS
I do like the Uzi / Colt pattern mags in my 9mm PCC. They load fully without a tool, and function better than 30+ round glock mags because they are double column double feed.
There was a time when you couldn’t get a part and if you needed something you either waited up to a year (or longer ) or had it made …nothing custom or cool most of the time ..today boy we live in the snap on Saturday afternoon dress shoe gun part extravaganza …I only wish I would have bought up a few parts kits back in the day when Cold War tensions dropped and law enforcement finally was able buy something other then a black n decker crescent wrench hammer club …when’s the time traveling box going to be put on Amazon …I need a coupon and 3 day shipping
🧐 I beg your pardon Sir! You need at least 3 tools for a glock. 1. The sight install tool. 2. The striker sleeve liner tool (extract & install on ether side.) 3. A punch (not that stupid GockTool™) Couldn't resist correcting chad... (i know it was eric, shut up chad) 🤟😋
What if I'm wrong and it is pre-face and not prefes. Or maybe it was prefes and I'm suffering from the Mendela effect and I've switch to a universe exactly like my own but they say pre-face there.
