This was a tough gun gripe. I think we are all a little torn in the big scheme of things. As a parent, I know how Trayvon's parents must feel. Yes it is unfortunate, yes Zimmerman may have made a bad call. Do I think that Martin acted accordingly by attacking Zimmerman? No.
Did Zimmerman have any business pursuing Martin? Not sure

To call Zimmerman a responsible gun owner is a joke and an insult to the entire firearms community. George Zimmerman is the kind of guy I seriously worry about having a gun; the kind of guy that needs a gun to feel macho because he doesn't have the nuts to act like a man on his own. Even if you ignore the whole Trayvon case, any chance of him redeeming his image as a responsible gun owner was lost when he forced his girlfriend out of her house at the end of a shotgun because he got mad after an argument.
@mmarsh1972
@mmarsh1972 10 лет назад
Exactly, a responsible gun owner would have never put himself in the situation Zimmerman did. Which is why I wish some of the gun lobby groups would start supporting him. For people who CCW, even if the shooting was legit (which I am not convinced of) Zimmerman is a posterboy of what NOT to do for CCW.

All I can say about this case is that they told him to stand down when he called 911 and he kept pursuing. Maybe Martin was up to no good, but when someone is not an immediate threat, leave it to the police. Now once he was getting beaten you can understand him defending himself to some degree, but the whole situation could have been avoided.

ToolOGT92 I agree, Zimmerman had no business confronting Martin after the 911 operator told him to stand down. All he had to do was keep an eye on him(description etc.) till the real police arrived! How was Martin a threat just walking down the street. He was African American at night in a nice area. If Zimmerman was such a good neighborhood watchman, he didn't know that there are African Americans in that community. I like the videos from the guys from Moss Pawn but I disagree with Eric & Barry(rip).

Tool0GT92 There is no evidence that he DIDN'T stop following Martin when the dispatcher told him to. The media presented the situation as if Zimmerman had been in his car, was told not to get out, but did anyway, and that's how many people think it happened. But on the audio of the 911 call the dispatcher asks, "Are you following him?" Zimmerman replies, "Yes." The dispatcher then says, "We don't need you to do that." That first of all, wasn't an "order" it was advice given for Zimmerman's own safety. But Zimmerman answers "OK" when told that they don't need him to follow. He says he walked around a corner to try to find an address to give police, then headed back towards his car. The evidence supports that, because the altercation occurred back closer to his car, where Martin had doubled back to confront him.
@emceeunderdogrising
@emceeunderdogrising 6 лет назад
Zimmerman was told to stand down. He went after him anyway. Then initiated aggression by following him. He should be guilty of murder. If you look at the pattern of his behavior after you can tell he is overly aggressive. He's been in and out of jail ever since for violent behavior. Apply what we know now vs then. He was guilty. The jury failed to deliver justice which compounded this tragedy. I do appreciate you guys presenting facts about responsible firearms use and what a neighborhood watch member is supposed to do.

I disagree, Eric. Simply because someone in a scuffle is "excessively" bloody does NOT make him the victim. It simply means he got his backside handed to them. Also. Zimmerman was in his vehicle at the the time he made the 911 call and was advised to stand down. Now using common sense, if Treyvon was the aggressor then the fight more than likely would have been in the street near Zimmerman's car. And if so, Im sure Treyvon's prints would have been on the car SOMEWHERE. What do you think? Since the brawl took place in a yard next to someone's home that means that Zimmerman had to exit his vehicle in order to "defend" himself. Now for the record I like your videos, you do an excellent job and you seem to be a very intelligent guy. All I ask is for you and Barry to not be biased.

Zimmerman was NOT the police. He should not have tried to act like it. He was TOLD by dispatch not to go after Trayvon and he did anyway. That alone proves recklessness. He stalked him, and then when he provoked Martin at a place he was legally staying, Martin had every right to confront Zimmerman.
@reliablethreat23
@reliablethreat23 9 лет назад
I don't think Zimmerman had any business following Martin (especially after the 911 dispatcher told him to back off since police were on their way), but then again, Martin should not have attacked Zimmerman. It's not against the law to follow someone. Martin started the altercation by attacking Zimmerman.

Most of the comments I have read about the Martin/Zimmerman tragedy are based on bad reporting that has led to narratives that are more speculation than factual. What most people get wrong is that Zimmerman was in his truck when he was advised to leave Martin alone and let the police do their job. Zimmerman was out of his truck when he was advised to leave Martin alone. Zimmerman was on his way back to his truck when Martin confronted him (Martin was also close to home prior to confronting Zimmerman and he had to reverse direction to confront Zimmerman). What no one mentions is that Martin was seen ramming Zimmerman's head into the sidewalk prior to Zimmerman shooting Martin. Stand your ground didn't apply to this situation because Zimmerman was still being assaulted immediately prior to the shooting which made it a regular self defense situation. There was no trial testimony or other evidence that claimed that Zimmerman had his gun out at any time prior to his confrontation with Martin. I understand that people are upset over Zimmerman following/hounding Martin. I think that it was foolish and risky for Martin to confront Zimmerman in a state where concealed carry and stand your ground is the law. If Zimmerman doesn't get out of his truck, this tragedy could have been avoided, but the same is true if Martin had simply gone home rather than confront Zimmerman.

I feel this is especially important when you consider where this comes from, a pro-gun, second amendment advocate. Thank you again for your honest and heart felt perspective. Technically, once you're in fear of your life with a good reason, you're allowed lethal force. Some idiot a few years back decided that when a cop came up to ask him about a few soup kitchen folks he may have punched, it'd be good to fight him. On a bridge sidewalk (relatively high over some water). With cars flying by at 40mph. Pretty easy for that to turn fatal even without weapons. When the taser didn't hit well enough, the gun did.
@Creepermoss
@Creepermoss 10 лет назад
My opinion, the twelve jurors were presented with enough evidence that they made a decision. Whether it was correct or not, I can't say, I didn't witness the events of that evening, and I haven't seen the exact evidence that was shown to the jury. This is how our legal system works, and like anything else, it has flaws. All we can do is trust that the jurors made the most appropriate call, based on the facts presented. And hope that if we are ever put on trial, that our jury will consider the facts and arrive at the correct verdict.

According to the police report and Zimmerman's version of events, Trayvon tried walking away but was pursued by Zimmerman. The dispatcher even told Zimmerman not to follow. Having a gun gave Zimmerman the courage to act the way he did, he would never have confronted Trayvon unarmed. And that's the tragedy, the gun is such an equalizer even the weakest in society can go looking for trouble (instead of defending against it).

There was never any evidence that Zimmerman approached nor confronted Trayvon nor that he grabbed him. There was evidence of a one sided assault. Lets say that Trayvon thought he was defending himself from a perceived threat, logically you would have to conclude that Zimmerman was also defending himself from an actual threat since he as the victim of a violent assault.

Just wanted to start off by saying that I loved the channel and just started watching the gun gripes after seeing what a wonderful job you did with the breonna taylor shooting, I hate to say it but alot of gun channels are more pro-party than pro-gun/ or issue, but i feel you are looking at this situation a little wrong and like you usually say not as a red blooded American or to a lesser extent a man. Let's start with the fact that the sidewalk no matter where is Public Property which means where in the city or in a neighborhood anyone has the right to be on it as a American. So, what would you do if you were walking and someone told you that you can't be on it.. you probably look at the funny and carry-on, so the situation would change and then that person trys to detain you are you just going to let another person who isn't in any official authority like the police just tell you what to do... most likely not you might tell them to get out your way or that you don't got time for this and head home. We don't know if Zimmerman pushed the issue and tried to make a citizen arrest or not. But still if you hadn't done anything wrong would you let another man make you get on the ground just because he said so? I mean just as you guys always talk about government tyranny you know people will try to lord over others and if you can't take it from big brother who is trying to do it quietly why would you let another citizen do it in your face? I think Zimmerman later actions including taunting the Martin family speaks to his character and maybe what really happened. (This will probably never be read but as a black man who is a legal gun owner it hurts my soul to see the laws that are supposed to protect me get twisted for someone else gain or just not apply to us, maybe A gun gripe episode needs to be done on the 2A groups lack of support for Black gun owners?)

This is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time."most teen boys will not just let a stranger challenge them" - as if spilling out testosterone and poor self control are normal things. According to you not even the police should have approached him. Was Zimmerman stupid by intervening when he should have waited for the police? Yes. Does this justify Martin's assault? No, it does not. This whole case is plagued by the race card, gun hate and a drive to portray neighborhood watch and indeed all persons concerned with community safety as tinfoil hat wearers. The fact that Martin was young doesn't help either. If this was a black man stabbing a black man to death or a white man stabbing a white man to death it wouldn't have ever made the news, it would have been just your run-off-the-mill anonymous murder of which there are countless instances. I'm not sure how you gentlemen came to your conclusions, but when the police dispatcher advises you to STOP, what else is there to discuss? And the notion of: He must be on drugs or something and up to no good", Seriously? Why is it so hard for some people to accept the notion that Zimmerman should have left the kid alone and the let REAL LEO's deal with it? Hans S. Hardly, if walking home without being stalked by some wannabe tough guy is too much to ask, then we all are in a world of hurt. He has shown beyond any doubt his mentality. And despite that you still think he was justified in his actions? I'm not really surprised. I just wonder if you'd still be such a staunch supporter if the kid he murders was not black? Only you know your heart, so let's just keep that one to yourself. I wonder if he would have been given over 300K in donations if the kid he murdered was not black? I guess we will never know?

bbigrocker1 You want to judge the incident based on the future behavior of Zimmerman, which pales in comparison to the prior behavior of Martin. The kid got in a fistfight the very day of the incident. Not to mention being expelled for fighting, numerous times. Never, in all the court proceedings and witness accounts, was any evidence shown that Zimmerman was the aggressor. There is plenty that shows Martin was. Should he have followed him? Maybe not, but it does not excuse Martins actions. He initiated the violence. Period. Everything you mention about race is complete hypocrisy. Yes, I would absolutely support Zimmerman if Martin had been white. The only difference is, that neither of us would have even heard about it. Statistically, blacks kill whites far more than the other way around. Where are the news stories? The court TV coverage? The CNN specials? This whole ordeal has been a race baiting scheme to keep foolish people divided. The real question is, if Martin had been white, would you, or any of these news organizations, give one flying shit about this incident? You can keep that one to yourself.

WHY? Statistically, someone like you will NEVER put the FACTS on the table, just like you didn't here. You're full of it, and the truth of the matter never occurred to you. You can continue to revert to hateful racial angles but it only makes your argument sound more pathetic. It's the only angle you have. Forget the evidence, forget common sense, he was black. Zimmerman was not. That's it. Case closed. Where are you "putting the facts on the table"? What facts have you argued other than Martin was a black man? You don't ant to discuss facts because the facts are why Zimmerman walked. Martin was a out of control teen (man) full of rage and a violent past. Legally he was in the right. But it's irresponsible as a citizen and especially as a gun owner and 2nd amendment advocate to harass others and provoke a violent confrontation. He had been told to back down repeatedly by the police and had no business harassing Martin at his place of residence. It wasn't morally correct of him to pick a fight in the first place, much less with a teenager.
@cuzz63
@cuzz63 7 лет назад
TheoneandonlyCrowMan , he was never told to "back down" once let alone repeatedly, he was asked to stop following which he did, there was no "harassment" on Zimmerman's part. Martin did not live there and was acting suspicious which is why Zimmerman called the police in the first place. Had Trayvon not violently assaulted him none of this would have happened. Not sure how you define harassment and picking a fight but based on the evidence of the trial none of that even happened, its not as if he chased Trayvon and cornered him nor grabbed him or got in his way. We know from the testimony of Rachel that Trayvon ran to Brandi's home some 100 yards down the path and then Martin inexplicably went back the 100 yards to violently confront Zimmerman who was at the T about 20-30 yards from his vehicle.

Good analysis, but they boys missed one important point. Zimmerman was NOT in a official neighborhood watch program like say Crimestoppers. He was a entirely self-promoted . The real programs tell people never to confront suspects, never to follow suspects and never to be carrying any type of weapon. Zimmerman broke all these key rules, because as Eric said, he had a cop fetish going. What saved Zimmerman wasn't the fact he wasn't guilty (the Jury said they thought he was guilty deserved to go to jail) it was the fact that the prosecution had such a weak case due to errors made by the police, the DA, and the fact there were no witnesses who saw the entire thing. In other words, there was no burden of proof... And judging from Zimmerman's behavior before and after the trial I think its safe to say justice wasn't served. He has had several run-ins with the law since and hes had the luck of the devil. But all luck changes and I just he doesn't kill again before someone finally locks him up.

I enjoy Gun Gripes but you guys should really take this clip down. All I hear on this clip is speculation on what happened and according to you it's all in Zimmerman's favor and Martin's at fault. The fact is if Zimmerman had done as he was told by the police dispatcher he never would have confronted Martin. If a belligerent threatening moron had confronted me with a gun would I have jumped his ass? Damn right I would. It all boils down to the fact that Zimmerman's stupidity led to a death that was avoidable. Zimmerman has proven his character since the Martin death. Given the facts of his erratic psychotic behavior since the trial there's no doubt in my mind this psycho went bat$hit crazy and was responsible for the escalation of the confrontation which led to Martin's murder, yeah murder, I call it like I see it. Get this straight, I'm not anti-gun, I own several guns, I hunt, I target shoot, but I won't defend a fellow gun owner who pulled the bone-headed series of events that led to an innocent youth's death. People like Zimmerman should never be allowed to carry a weapon of any kind.

And ill say this black people dont really advocate for guns because we know that the law will not be on our side in the event that we have to defend ourselves from a white attacker the assumption will always be oh he could of been reaching for his gun the shit is really sickening but whatever man..

I totally disagree with what you guys are saying, the matter of fact is Zimmerman approached Martin and Martin got the upper hand! That does not make him the aggressor! If someone is following you in the middle of the night, especially in the south, it get pretty dark in the south too, are you going to greet them happily? NO! Stalking is a crime and that is basically what Zimmerman was doing! Why didn't the stand your ground act apply to Martin! Why is it Martin had to be the one that reached for his gun, what if Zimmerman had it in his hand the whole time?We don't know! We do know martin only had iced tea and skittles. And to say its a measurement of egos is wrong, Martin could have been and was most likely just as scared for his life as Zimmerman.Its apparent that people seem to take into account of Zimmerman reacting off his fear ,even when hes a grown man, but martin is being put in a villainous spot light for reacting to his fear, but he 17 years old. In a confrontation people either react naturally by fight or flight! All in all Zimmerman is neighborhood watch, doesn't give him the right to stalk and approach anyone in the street. its called "watch" for a reason, observe and report to the cops!

Problem is, bro, Zimmerman did not legally "stalk" Trayvon. And there's no evidence to suggest that -- Zimmerman said he went to see what direction Trayvon went (which is not illegal), and even though the 911 operator said he didn't have to do that, an operator cannot tell you what to do. If he told the truth and all he did was go to see what direction Trayvon went, and Trayvon attacked him, it's all very unfortunate but Trayvon acted illegally. In addition, the 911 call was 51 seconds of Zimmerman screaming for help before the gun went off. That means 51 seconds + time for someone to hear screams and call 911 before Zimmerman shot Trayvon, who was on top of him. I don't put Trayvon in an evil light, but he may have acted foolishly and immaturely by attacking someone like that. You can't physically attack someone these days -- and if he was hiding in a bush before attacking Zimmerman like Zimmerman stated (and there's no evidence to refute it), then he basically attacked someone without provocation.
@devindooo
@devindooo 9 лет назад
veggie530 Sooo, you're telling me he wasn't following Trayvon but looked from a distance to see what direction he went in. That would make it physically impossible for Trayvon and Zimmerman to get into a physical altercation if he was at such a distance where he wasn't stalking him. Two why would Trayvon tell his girlfriend that there's some creepy guy following him if Zimmerman was so far away! I'm pretty sure its would be easy to stay unseen at night time, in the south, (been to the south plenty of times and unless there's a string of lights it is darn there impossible to see things at a distance). Even if there was a string of lights, the dark spaces in between each light dissipate the light so much that its like walking from a well lit room into a dark room! In Florida, stalking is, "A person who willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly follows, harasses, or cyberstalks another person commits the offense of stalking, a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083." So that means, if Zimmerman went looking for him, unless he peaked his head out once to look in a general direction and turned around a got back into his car, he stalked Trayvon! In rough order, Zimmerman saw Trayvon (first sighting and targeting), watched what direction he was going in (following him), called the 911 operator and when told to stay in the car, went looking for him(still following him)! Also his intentions were to detain and or stop Trayvon from committing any "Crimes." Stalking at its finest, or a mini manhunt! Lets take it down to a emotional level. How would you feel if you noticed some guy following you in the dead of night? Just because Trayvon was kicking Zimmerman's ass doesn't mean that he was the aggressor. Fights can go any way, who's to say that Trayvon got the upper hand and exercised his self defense rights! Of course Zimmerman is going to say he was attacked first, who wants to go to jail!?! Eliminating the defending party is a great way to get your story across without having sufficient resistance to test the authenticity of your story!

Martin was not in commission of any crime therefor should not have been approached PERIOD! Zimmerman could have continued to observe him to see if he actually was up to no good, instead he confronted a free man because of his prejudice and created an unfounded conflict. It's a shame that Iraqveteran8888 has over looked these key factors to this absolutely unnecessary occurrence. It says to me they have blinders or bias that likely can be contributed to race. The fact that Zimmerman put himself in the situation is why I don't find him innocent or not guilty. He abused his privilege with that gun. And now that he has been reports for having pointed his gun at his wife and father-in-law, threatening to kill them on two separate occasions, do you still think Zimmerman is entitled to own a gun? That is what Neighborhood watchmen do. He carried his gun, legally concealed, for the same reason most people do.
