Masterful....just masterful! I love your videos my man! You are one of the best speed runners I've ever seen. Gun smoke is near and dear to my heart. I've never gotten past level 5, but after watching this video, I'm confident that I can finish the entire game. Proper utilization of horses. That's what I picked up from this video. That's the key! Great job!
@@unnamed6595 It’s not underrated. It’s just overlooked. Never seen anyone say it’s bad. People just don’t know about it. Remember renting it in the 80’s and it was always a solid choice to occupy you for a weekend.
I used to play this game with my grandpa when I was a kid. We called it "thumb smoke" because your thumbs were usually smoking by the time you finished it. Thanks for the good memories.
I loved this arcade game as a kid in the 80's! I can't even count the weeks I used my lunch money to go to the local arcade after school. Before school I would fill my back pack full of snacks to eat at lunch time. I was one of the first kids in my local arcade group to beat this game. Did so with $4.50 after I learned the patterns and enemy movements.
I found Mr. Arcus via Summoning Salt. You play a ton of great games from our childhood. I'm so glad I found this one. I've been looking for a decent playthrough of this game. It was one of my favorites as a kid. Thank you sir!
Yeah. Ninja Gaiden is his game where he holds the record. I'm not only impressed at him being the record holder for Ninja Gaiden but the sheer number of NES games he has beaten rather quickly nonetheless.
@@Kwaj oh Capcom definitely won the war. Took over 30 years, but they did whwn Disney used the Moon Theme from the Ducktales game, in the new Ducktales show. As far as Konami goes, they almost had it, but they kinda cheated because they used a certain audio chip in their Japan released games, and I heard they put it in Bayou Billy. As much as I love Capcom, that first stage song in Bayou Billy, is still my overall favorite 8bit NES song, but I do find myself listening to more 8bit NES Capcom songs.
Hey bud this was the one game that drove me nuts playing as a kid still can't beat it. Plus I've watched several games over the past few days and dig the style mash mash mash clunk how ever you gotta do it keep it up. Watching you reminds me if my little cousins watching me play games. My first game was Bump N' Jump ! 👍👍
@@FinalManaTrigger I was wondering the same thing. The WR is like 50 seconds(!) faster than this time. I imagine some savings over this run, but his menuing was pretty quick and I can imagine a little time savings on the bosses, but 50 seconds worth? I have no idea how that works.
You represent Arizona very well my friend. Been watching you for years and always wondered if you were from Arizona or New Mexico. Had to be one or the other. And thanks for helping me dramatically improve my gaiden times.
When i was i kid, i was turned off by the graphics of this game when i saw the box art. I didnt know there were horses in the game. I thought those were the characters' legs. Didn't play this until years later
Yooooooo this game pissed me off so bad as a kid. Can't remember which boss I couldn't get past but I'll finally get to see the rest of the game 🙌 edit: after watching the run it was the chief at 11:09 I couldn't get past 🙄
Arcus is surely one of the best streamers what I have ever followed and i just hope you will never get retired from the games or I will start crying :D
First time I finished game using countinous pausing with start button. 6th level was especially hard because I couldn’t find WANTED. Bought it in the end. However now I also playing with game genie beacause fun 😀
Always loved Western games, been playing Red Dead 2 and I remember playing this game when I was a child, had to take a look again for memories. Great run.
just did a 25.07 myself. Too many subweapon changes cost me, but I logged a deathless. Thought I beat you till I timed it. Back to the drawing board I guess.
Watching Arcus play video games is like watching a pro guitar player, playing guitar. We can all pick up a guitar and strum the strings. Just like we can all pick up a controller and play a video game. It takes a true master to play games like Arcus plays them. It is through hard work and massive hours. No one picks these things up and are just this good at them. Sure there is a God given gift that can give someone an edge on skills in the world. I just don't like taking away from all the hard work and countless hours these people put into their craft! Video game playing at this level is a craft. It is a skill.
Not sure of the point of a speedrun of this game, it's all timed. More impressive is if you can beat this game w/o save states and w/o ruining your controller's A button like I did.
crazy how these vids all look like they were filmed recently. even crazier how long arcus has been speedrunning nes games.

Anyone know there is a game that looks like gun smoke but the main dude dresses in himation (ancient greece clothes) and he also wield ranged weapons? P/s: not PS1 Hercules
What are the chances that I just finished watching the summoning salt commenting on your Ninja Gaiden speedrunning. Then I didn't even know you speed ran this and I just searched Gunsmoke speedrun and I see you! Goodshit
Shooting straight forward in this game was such a pain. And could they have picked a more obnoxious background for the final battle? White bricks, when the bullets are white orbs?
