I just recently took a dive into battle operation 2 and Gundam in general again and wanted a crash refresher and happened to find this series days before this last video dropped. You've been the voice in my car for my commute all week and have done a fantastic job!

I'd argue his greatest mistake was first assassinating Zeon Zum Daikun. Then second biggest is just Gihren in general, then third Kcylia in general. Fourth being not immediately setting up the GOAT Dozzle with some good advisors and giving him more power.
My only major issue with the OYW time period is that it last one year. You can cram most of this stuff into one year but man it really should have been at least two. You and Kakarot197 are doing good work explaining the deeper bits when it comes to Gundam.
To be honest when I first saw the UC series, I thought the war actually lasted far longer than a year, given the heavy influence of World War II on Gundam, I thought it lasted at least seven years, or a decade at most.
At some point Sunrise needs to just stop creating new oyw add-ons and calling it canon. They’re way passed the point of it being believable. No way both sides developed this many MS variations in less than a year.
Theres actually 3 detla Squads. The Gundam one, Starwars Republic Commando delta squad and then there's Gears of War Detla squad the Triad of Detla Squads have come 😂😂😂

I’ll definitely say, Alma being a Mary Sue for defeating two gundams with a custom Kampfer rings a bit hollow to me. Yeah, mobile suit performance is important, but. You don’t hear that about Char standing up to the Granddaddy in a Zaku or Ramba Ral nearly defeating it in a Gouf. Near the end of the war, Zeon mobile suits were definitely catching up with the Gundam, so Alma defeating two Gundams while at the same time Amuro is eating through Gelgoogs is just like… Yeah. They’re protagonists. We’re following them because they’re highly skilled pilots. You can definitely tell stories about Average Joes, and those are super fun. But for Alma especially, she’s a video game protagonist. Extreme combat competence is the norm.
I think the Lala Sune arc was pretty much the culmination of the thematic through-line of Mobile Suit Gundam and what Newtypes are to the narrative. When Amuro starts fighting, he doesn’t see people. He just sees a big one-eyed ogre that’s killed billions of people and threatening what family he has left. But that starts to change after Garma dies. His fiancée stepping out and pointing a gun at him before falling to her death has him openly saying “what the hell was that?” Then he experiences Rumba Ral’s suicide, the death of his crush Matilda, his combat buddy Ryu, and one of the multiple White Base fighter pilots. He has a normal person’s experience with loss, he has an acute understanding that there are human beings inside the suits he’s carving up, but as Amuro’s Newtype abilities start becoming more active in space, it’s Dozle’s sheer malevolent determination that is his first contact. It’s one sided, and Amuro doesn’t know really what he’s seeing and why, but for the first time since California Amuro is deeply shocked by the personal vendetta the enemy feels for him. And then he goes and kills Lala Sune. The big realization clicks once he realizes what he’s experiencing in this connection between two Newtypes as one of them transcends the mortal coil. The connection between two enemies… and how they are ultimately wasting human life through the act of war. Amuro breaking down crying that he’s done something unforgivable is the message of Mobile Suit Gundam in a single scene. His whole “hero’s journey” is realizing on a metaphysical level that he’s not actually doing good. He’s killing people who may not have to die, and facing people being forced to fight a cause they don’t believe in, or are so broken by trauma they see no way out beyond a violent catharsis. The sequels will have their own “opinions” on that message, but that’s the anti-war narrative Gundam crafts which resonated with fans for decades. Great video, loving the series.
Eh, I don't think Alma's a Mary Su. I think the pilots of the Riders were just mediocre. Because let's be honest, they were clearly banking on the MS unique abilities to see them through in the end.
He did say that tho, the Riders always just sent other people to do their own work and only went in for mop-up operations, compared to Alma & friends who had plenty of combat experience. He only said he can understand where people are coming from if they do think she’s a Mary Sue, but he does go on to explain why she should be able to what she does.
@@HK-07She escapes most of the Mary Sue standards as well. She even straight up falls into a coma due to combat stress and willingly gives command over to one of her teammates
@@KillerOrca she isn't that great of a pilot considered Lilith bang her up twice before Alma finally beaten her but spare her. She also has nervous breakdown and relinquished her leadership to her teammates which turns out are pretty decent pilot in their respective mobile suit, she was given back the captain rank as her commander wanted her to lead again, plus we can play Titania MS. She is really experience in her ms combat, ain't a plucky little kid got into a Gundam. She started off piloting a basic beach Zaku II to begin with. She surrendered and was a prisoner of war, play almost no part after the war along with her sister buddies. They also received no recognition for their effort after the war. They're just talented soldiers fighting awful pilots with tendency to be psychopaths. If you play the game and watch the cutscenes, she nearly lost her fight with White Rider, just that Remy is an asshole and wanted to trigger White Rider's reactor to cause an explosion, because he thinks is funny to see Alma die screaming. White Rider fight back and drag Remy's GMs off the cliff, saving Alma indirectly. I mean, we play as Alma and her team to peg Earth Federation MS, can't be Mary Sue if Hard Difficulty is incredibly BS to play for me anyway.

Which were introduced to fix zeon major supply line fuck up of having gazellon gear/part for their too many MS TYPE . Which really reduce the cost of such a beast of Ms
I want a Witch Hunter story so I can play as Lilith and see the war through both her and Barry's eyes. I don't care if Code Fairy is a zeek game, but I think that a Witch Hunter entry would be a way to have a secondary narrator to the story of Code Fairy.
Now I kind of feel like trying to get the best possible ending for the Thoroughbred campaign in the Encounters in Space game has been rendered moot now that Lous’s death is canon.
I like how gundam incorporates real world tech into the universe which helps to keep it grounded, like the Chobham armour in the alex, it's a real life thing used in tanks to this very day and it was invented in Chobham England.
So Up until Gundam F91. All the Stories during 0080, 0083, and maybe Unicorn. All the Zeon Forces there were just the Remnants of this Monarchy? Yes, I watched all of this. Mostly to get a Grasp on the Colossus Of this UC timeline Business and the content associated with it! Honestly, I’m just a beginner Fan of the SRW series. But I have been a Gan of Gundam since Gundam Wing on Toonami. I definitely enjoyed Gundam 00, Gundam IBO, Gundam 0080, G-Fighter (what everyone loves), and Gundam Build Divers and Build Divers Re:Rise!
I can give a sort of advise of pronouncing MS or MA names. When in doubt, refer to the Japanese pronunciation. The Big Zam for example is pronounced "Z-U-M" like you pronounced "Mum". This is why Gundam is pronounced "Gun + Dumb" rather than "Gun + Damn" or "Goon + Dumb".
We're honestly really lucky Gundam turned out the way it did. Something which was seen as just another toy commercial had really deep political and philosophical commentary. I don't really know much about Tomino's background, or what he has said on the matter, but 0079 closely parallels to progress of WWII in myriad ways, so I wonder which were intentional and which simply happened. I really enjoy The origin and Thunderbolt, because they are beautiful, have a lot of action and do retread the OYW(and beyond), but they lack in the macropolitics of the setting. Most of the gundam we've seen in the past 30 years has been AU, and even the furthest flung UC timeline material of F91 and V are so far removed from the OYW that they may as well be AU, in ways, so this crunchy sensation of a not so distant future we see in the OYW is rarely there. I really love seeing mobile suit and ship combat, but I think the deeper political story of gundam is a major component, so I hope whatever we see in the future is more like 0079 and less like other newer entries. Though I suppose that's entirely up to what the newer writers think!
If you want to looked into something as in depth and as expansive as Gundam Universe. I present you the Muv Luv Universe.... After all, it's the series that inspire Attack on Titan. I am not dragging Warhammer 40K into this.
The Noisy Fairy squadron are still my favourite squadron. That, and they're the last active combat situation (Due to the Dogs still firing at them after the official surrender), so they're a fascinating little group.
Awesome video. Really gives you the scale of the OYW, despite the inconsistencies of some events here and there especially with the California Base. This is the reason why I adore the OYW portion of the UC Timeline. Anyways, will you cover the Plot to Assassin Ghiren manga in a separate video if ever ? It's also a OYW story taking place in Side 3 Munzo but it's more about what's happening within Zeon command rather than the war itself. If you do, I look forward to it. If you don't, then we're cool. Code Fairy is the few Gundam games I really love, cause I get to play Zakus as protagonist. Let's be real unless ur a MSGBO2 Veteran, it isn't easy to play this game, they move slowly and you need to timed it right hit anything, plus no auto aim. Hard Mode is just BS to play, grunts gets more health, infinite spawn, you literally dead load dead load the game at this point.
1:15:45 if I remember right this is what screwed over Japan in the long run during WWII. They sent out their pilots constantly not cycling them out to train new ones which the Americans did. This along with the fact that the Zero fighter was a death trap (very little armor and didn't even have parachutes) led to them getting stomped in the long run especially when later American fighters began to outperform them.
Amuro having the ALEX would spawn an entirely new timeline. He could have murked Char in 0079 and stop both the AEUG and Sleeves from forming. Unicorn would be vastly different because Char is dead- my money is on Banagher fighting an _Amuro_ clone piloting a high-mobility Gundam derived from the ALEX
In the 10th episode of Space Dandy, Dandy and the gang get stuck on Meow's home planet and trapped in a groundhog day time loop. While exploring Meow's backstory and his relationship with his dad. It's revealed that Meow built a Tem Circuit for a "Technical Arts" project. He even won a prize for it.
The 7th Gundam might count. It survived because it was under construction and wasn't finished after the OYW, after that it was used to hunt Zeon remnants.
