I agree that Gundam fought so hard to defend himself so he would die the villain and then people wouldn't feel as bad about his death Gundam is definitely one of my favourite danganronpa characters
millionlives To me it felt like he was testing everyone. With how much value life seems to have in his eyes, I felt he wanted to make others appreciate it by making them fight for. He committed his crime because everyone else gave up. At least that's how I see it.
In gundams cottage, he has a rocking chair with books on the ground near it next to his hamster cage this literally implies he reads his hamsters bedtime stories god damn it gundam you were so pure
I just realized, Gundam is the only person who gets executed that Monokuma shows respect towards during said execution. Monokuma literally sent him to small fluffy animal heaven, let his hamsters live, and even went so far as to allow Gundam to die smiling. That is super uncharacteristic, and I feel the only explanation is that Monokuma respected Gundam for how much he was willing to die.
oh I thought gundham casted a spell to go to heaven, thats why his spell looked like it didnt work because he had died while it actually worked. the spell was supposed to make the animals take him to heaven
Gundham was my favourite character, I feel like his murder was the most justified. I think he defended himself so much at the trial because he wanted to make everyone believe that they should never give up on life, but if he simply surrendered in the trial and let himself get killed, he wouldn't have been setting a very good example of never giving up on life. He didn't mind dying himself because he'd made himself out to be a villain and dying was ok for a villain, he wanted everyone to hold values that he thought he didn't deserve.
James Cools gundam was by far my favourite character in the second game ❤️ he was such a good character, he had development and I just found him interesting. I cried so much in the fourth trial
Can I point out, Gundam was very amazed When Sonia was giving Gundam compliments Gundam didn't know how to react I believe this was because he was never complimented in his life, only his Mother gave him love So he felt like Sonia was the only person apart from his mother That he could understand since Sonia never really made Also, Sonia's language (the way she speaks) is similar to Gundam's So he found it easier to understand her
Honestly, there was no reason for Soda to be mean to Gundham. He just felt jealous of him because Sonia liked him. If Soda wasn't so mean to him, they would've became best friends. That's just my opinion though.
I agree. I think the reason Gundham hates Souda is because of the comments he makes and how rude he is. I’ve noticed that Gundham has become aware of his thoughts and what he will do and say next. One reason is definitely because of the way he treats Sonia I think. Souda has made her feel uncomfortable but she kept moving forward. I think Gundham knows that Souda can’t get to Sonia that easily, but if he were to say something I think Gundham would shut him down pretty quickly.
I really don't see them becoming friends even if that whole Sonia thing didn't happen. The two characters have nothing to relate on, and Soda's the kind of guy who's super obsessed with appearances, where Gundham revels in being different. I think Soda like most characters would have never given Gundham a chance and would have just been completely ignoring him had he not caught his anger from being more liked by Sonia. I think without characters like Sonia or Hajime to interact with he would have basically just been the loner of his class that no one hangs out with. Gundham is the kinda introverted guy that needs someone to approach him and make the first move to get close to someone. Once someone shows an active interest in him is when he warms up to people. Soda doesn't seem like the kind of guy to do that though, so I just don't see them becoming friends. I don't see their personalities meshing.
@@doodoofart2795 I never got the impression he hated Soda, but was just annoyed when Soda antagonizes him. He barely shows any mention or notice towards Soda other than when Soda is trying to antagonize him, and otherwise just treated him the same as the rest of the class. I never saw him do anything towards Soda that made it seem like he hated Soda more than anyone else. It seems like he couldn't care less about Soda and his existence except when that existence is specifically attacking him personally, from the way they barely interact at all, or comment on eachother except when in specific reference to his obsession with Sonia. Soda's the one full of jealous hatred. Gundham's just doing his own thing, and is only sassy when attacked first, kinda like someone batting an annoying fly away that's otherwise inconsequential towards their life.
Maybe he didn't confess right away was because A) He would seem like a hypocrite in telling everyone not to give up on life, If he told them he did it, it would contradict his belief. (Obviously he was not resisting that much, so he still wanted them to survive) B) He wanted to seem like a villain so his death would not hinder everyone's emotional state.
C) He simply wanted to live. He cared for everyone but he wanted to fight for his chance to live. It's why Gundam and Nekomaru fought for their lives instead of one of them allowing the other to kill them. If he lost that would be fine everything would progress but he wanted fair chance at life. "Giving up on life and choosing death.. is nothing but a blasphemy towards life"
+AnonEars *hajime voice again* I ALSO AGREE WITH THAT so to cut it short... Gundham is a very soft squishy baby that is precious and should be always loved and taken care of!! 💓💓💓
I agree with A ^.^ It wouldn't be in his character to just give up and confess so easily, I'm sure he knew the rest of them were smart enough to figure out he was the killer anyway.
Gundham was one of the only dr 2 characters who didn’t completely snap when executed. He smiled while dying and went to heaven. He spent his last moments to protect his Four Dark Devas Of Destruction, which were his only friends. He even reads them bedtime story’s. Him killing Nekomaru was a suicide mission he knew he was taking. He let himself die so everyone else could survive. He left behind a message not to give up on life. Gundham kept up his villain persona during the trial so they wouldn’t feel bad about his execution, and to prove his message even further. For these and many other reasons, he’s my favorite character, he sacrificed himself for people who strongly disliked him. That’s real bravery.
I would have added that, because both Sonia and Gundham were loners and their first friends were here, it was easier for them to bond and possibly start to like each other. Sonia and Gundham both love the occult so that helped, and that's why Sonia watched after his Four Dark Devas of Destruction after his execution, because they were so alike to each other (which is also why the hamsters where probably ok with Sonia watching after them)
“If one would call murder so that one may live 'evil', then what must one call surrendering on life itself?! If the world shall name it just, then I shall fight that world with all my strength, for to renounce life and choose death is a blasphemy to life itself! It is the perversion of nature, the conceit of mankind!” I think that's the reason Gundam tried so hard to defend himself during the trial. He places great value on life in his personal philosophy, which he probably developed after his mother's death and after spending so much time taking care of animals. He wanted to live, but he also wanted everyone else to live as well. They really are his first human friends, and I think Sonia may have been the first girl he really developed feelings for. Of course he wouldn't let them all die a slow death from starvation. He and Nekomaru both knew someone had to commit murder so the others could escape. Although Gundam came out victorious, I believe he was willing to die if it meant everyone else could survive. And when he's uncovered as the murderer, instead of crying or begging for his life, he accepts his execution and urges the others not to give up. Nearly all the other murderers in the series killed for selfish reasons, but not Gundam. He thought he'd die a villain, but he lived long enough to see himself become a hero.
Chiaki, Gundham, And Kaede didn’t murder for a selfish reason. They’re the 3 I think of when I think of Selfless murder. Although there are a few others. Most Culprits in Danganronpa didn’t murder for the sake of murder and most had a decent motive.
Tigger in Wonderland What, you didn't watch it? Like not even once? Is that really okay with you? To skip a part where your favorite character plays such a vital role? the arc did make me sad, but I found out a lot of things about Tanaka that I never knew. I saw for the first time how he put aside his cute dorky side and showed us his brains and resolve. I feel like the whole trial was a tribute to him, in a really weird way. What it means to kill someone, cover it up and tell lie after lie even though you aren't even doing it for yourself :( Also her dialogues in the Surprise House are really important...you might want to check it out sometime
The way I see it Gundum did care about everyone else and he believed just like Nekomaru if they were going to wither away they move to progress. BUT all the same both Nekomaru and Gundam did not want to die. They fought for their lives when went against each other because they wanted to live. That carries on to the trial though he did care for everyone he was still wanted to live for himself and his hamsters. So he fought for his chance survive even if that would mean everyone else would have to die but if he lost that battle he was perfectly fine with it. His goal was to simply for things to progress whether he would live or die. He would fight for his life but if he lost he would accept it. Thats how I see it
Most people don't realise this but gundham is actually one of the smartest and strongest characters in the danganrompa universe He creates a murder plan that only fails by sheer coincidence as if fuyuhiko wasn't awake at the time he was carrying out his plan he would've gotten away with it, which I believe is the only time in the games history a killer was found out because of sheer dumb luck on the survivors part And he also fought a full strength nekomaru (cause he's a robot and doesn't need to eat) while in a weaker state after being starve because of the funhouse the group is trapped in. Which in itself is quite impressive but made even more impressive when you've seen the cannon danganrompa 3 anime and saw nekomaru fight a buffed up akane showing nekomaru to be a formidable opponent
While I would say he's smarter than most of his classmates, but he doesn't appear to be the strongest at trials as he is on the wrong side about as often as he's on the right side of the case. Only Nagito and Chiaki are shown to consistently be able to figure out who the murderer is each case, so I'd say both of them are smarter when it comes to putting murder pieces together but that he hits a strong third place. Which is impressive since one of them is an AI Before you say I'm giving preferential treatment, I don't even like Chiaki or Nagito, but can't ignore that they have shown themselves to be the smartest at the class trials. I'd say he's somewhere directly under what I refer to as the people who are pretty much consistently always right during class trials, Usually always being the female love interest of the main character and whoever they choose to be antagonistic male each game which would be "Kyoko, and Byakuya. Chiaki and Nagito, and Maki and Kokichi. I'd say his intelligence is somewhere under those characters, simply due to seeing how good those characters were at deductive reasoning. It could however be that Gunham is just not applying himself as hard, as he seems to not really investigate much before the trial. I guess this is part of why intelligence is such a hard thing to even pin down. It's hard to know how intelligent someone could be if they were trying harder. Point is he's still a pretty smart cookie.
@@sardonicus1739 Honestly, I believe Gundham have the logic needed to point out the murder and solve those trials, he just lack the evidences to support his train of logic, so the limiting factor to his trial ability is not his intelligence. I think this is backed up by how in his only other rebartal (outside chapter 4), he goes straight to the point, with you being able to just present the evidence right away without needing to push him into a second phase (if I remembered it correctly), after providing the evidence, he was also very quick to agree and move on. However, I agree with you for the fact that he is definitely weaker at trials, since he’s line of thought is always logic and evidence centric (you can even see this when he argue it wasn't him in chapter 4, he only brings up points that don't logically add up yet as his defense and ask for an explanation to those points), while being very inactive when searching for those evidence compared to Chiaki or Nagito, so most of the trial, he will be slower due to this lack of information. The point is, Gundham is definitely smarter than me for solving that last puzzle in the death room.
One character I would like to see an analysis on is Fuyuhiko. He's one of my fav characters from SDR2 and a very underrated one in my opinion. Plus, I believe there is a lot more to discover about him, as there is no doubt he had a rough child hood, you know, growing up to lead the Japanese Mafia.
Not gonna lie I loved gundham so much I actually thought of how much money it would take to get the developers to make a fake game where nidai killed himself for the group and gundham survived to the end of the game. I put in a lot of thought because I was in tears for HOURS after that trial. I think it would have payed nidai more respect.
I just fucking love Gundham, defo my favorite DR character.Honestly tho, after watching this video i didn't really learn any new facts about Gundham, because i always payed attention to him the most i could, but...that saying, that one bit where you mentioned the mistake in translation was more than enough for me to take from this video, it gave a new light on everything. If his mother died sometime when he was attending Hope's Peak, or even some time before that, he was already in despair. He lost only person that was important in his life, all that Junko had to do was to add a little spark for despair to completely come out.It was said that he trained dangerous animals all over the world, so he was probably a great use to Junko with that ability. Thanks for that info.I love learning new stuff about characters i love.Subbed.
His current status isn't dead apparently his physical form was fine and he woke up from a coma in danganronpa 3. Don't worry sweet animal baby is alive
Please do Souda next. I feel like he's a character that's misunderstood and gets a lot of unwarranted hate. Plus we don't know what caused such an easily frightened guy like him to fall into despair. Also, I've read some theories that he's the one that made the execution scenes for the first game. He's got some interesting stuff going on.
Given his past makes the pairing with Sonia even cuter. With your theories about his mother (the only person who loved him) dying at some point in time and Sonia praising him for his achievements with his hamster (or his "Four Dark Devas of Destruction") probably meant a lot to him.
@@interesting...butmiles9722 of course it soda who is saying that. It what made her aproche him. There frenship grew because of there love for dark arts and shit like that
Hope you guys enjoy this analysis! I ended up revising it a lot, so hopefully I didn’t leave anything out. But feel free to let me know if you have any questions or anything!
+Simon The Digger Oh cool! I didn't even know that, thanks for pointing that out! I hate that the other website was giving some of you guys problems :/
A character analysis of fuyuhiko and peko would be great. They're both interesting characters, especially the way their relationship works. It's probably harder to do two characters in one analysis, but thats really the most effective way if you're going to address their past, I think
his little moments where he broke his character and stuttered and blush had me fangirling over a ship. Sonia x gundham, Miu x Keebo, Fuyuhiko x peko. Only valid ships ever. I'm leaving out akane x nekomaru because i want them to be friends and a team, and i cant really see either of them being interested in each other in a non-platonic way, especially given akane's past.
Gundham is awesome, and so are you. ;D Your channel is awesome. As for him leaving his hamsters to Sonia/etc, sadly, he didn't do that at all. His execution..he set them aside. I'm not sure what his intent was for them beyond that moment, complicated by the fact they simply disappeared when he did. Which makes me wonder even further; HOW were his hamsters there with them? Was he manifesting them from his own memories/desires? They weren't individual AI/uploaded bodies...really seems they were tied to his conscious in some way.
Maybe they were so important to him, that the Neo World Program couldn't recreate his Avatar without his hamsters. As if they were his entire life, like soulmates. Fuck, who's cutting onions here again...?
Gundham is my favorite Danganronpa character because of how inspiring and strong of a character I find him to be. At the start of the game he's very antisocial and outright cold and disrespectful towards the other classmates, but as you continue the game he reveals he has a soft spot and sees the other students as his only friends besides his hamsters. His character especially shines in Chapter 4 where he agreed with Nekomaru to sacrifice themselves to save the others from Monokuma.
Blake - Funfact: They were actually rushing Hiyoko's death. I'm not really sure, but they didnt want Peko's death to be meaningless since it was planned that Hiyoko was going to murder Fuyuhiko. (I read this in a comment once and I dont completely remember why they had rushed her death, but it was something like that. Correct me if im wrong :DD)
That moment you realize Gundham is the only blackened to survive his execution. He died moments after Monokuma was done punishing him, so he technically survived the execution itself!
He is definately one of my faves. his hidden gentle nature is what mostly gets me and the fact that I first I thought he was all about delusional bragging but he ended up doing pretty badass things, also his relationship with Sonia! he was simply the cutest when he blushed at her compliments. gotta say i'm a bit dissapointed you didn' even mention that in the analysis. but good video none the less :)
Gundham is onr of my favorite characters, and even though I found him pretty annyoing during the first time I've played DanganRonpa, I quickly grew to love him the second, third, forth and fifth time I played the game, he is really similar to mee tbh XD.
*loud screaming* YES!!! This was amazing and I thought I knew ^everything^ about Gundam, but I learned quite a few new things. Gundam is my favorite character in SDR2 by far so I really do appreciate this and love everything about him. I and also, YUSS! PLEASE, do Celestia soon! She is my favorite in ^ALL^ of DR! I love her so much and time and time again I've analysed her myself so I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU ADD!
I think thee reason he fell into despair is almost like the thing about everyone else having poison. It sorta goes that Junko is telling Gundham about the people who hurt animals. Since he thinks of them as his only friend, he may have made the animals kill the people who have hurt their pets. And then it went to far, and he began killing people at the masses for be very disrespecting even the simplest of flies.
Great analysis! Just recently discovered your channel and it's really cool. :) You've earned yourself a subscriber! I also think we can begin to see Gundham's true colors when Sonia starts to show interest in him. She often make him blush, hitting his soft spot every time, especially when it comes to his hamsters. And then there's the hopeful speech he gives before his execution, telling his classmates not to give up. I think that's really revealing about his character. At first I wasn't really interested in Gundham, his personality was cool, okay, but the Chapter 4 made me see Gundham a whole different way. Thank you for this video. :)
Also, in his dorm he has a HUGE hamster cage and a rocking chair with books next to it. This implies that he READS BEDTIME STORIES TO HIS HAMSTERS THIS MAN IS AMAZING
Me when I learned when Gundham murdered: NOOOO HOW COULD YOU DO THIS? YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE Me when I learned why Gundham murdered: *respects Gundham even more*
I know Gundham can be a little hard to understand but when get to know a him more by re-watching his free time events, and re-watching all the parts of the game with just him, then you start to understand what he's saying. And your analysis on him thanks to other fans helped me understand him even more, and only made me love him even more. X3
Thank you for making this video, a lot of people, myself included, probably learned a lot about everyone's favorite geek from this analysis! I would like to suggest an analysis on Teruteru some time in the future... I see him as that one character who looks extremely plain on the surface but has a lot going on actually. People cross him off as Hifumi v2 but in his free time events it becomes evident that he cares more about commitment and marriage and all of that, which i personally think is surprising considering what we're given from the non-free time teruteru interactions. And he may or may not be in love with Hajime, since in his free time events he cooks beef stew for hajime and later on mentions that he willingly cooks for the people he loves the most, and seeing how he suggested he cooked Hajime that stew on his own may hint towards a possible crush. I really think Teruteru is underappreciated and i would be really happy if he could get more love from the fandom!
Gundham is my favorite character in danganronpa. I literally sobbed and had to call my friend during his execution. Anything about him is hard to watch and I like Sonia because of him. HE’S JUST AMAZING HOW THE HELL COULD YOU KILL HIM?!
I KNOW RIGHT.....Had to get my older sister to comfort me after his death.....I just can't handel anything related to animals that has to be out down or Gundham himself, and Sonia is sooo freaking nice and understand Gundham more then anyone else which made my heart feel all mushy and stuff
Conclusion: Gundham is baby Also out of v1 and v2, Gundham’s execution is the only one that’s absolutely made me cry and I get teary whenever I think about it lol
Within my blackened heart of sorrow does weep with longing for the embrace of the lord of ice, my prince of darkness. Twisted and malformed this love does be, separated by the cruel cracked veil of fantasy against the bitter reality I exist in. Nevermore and neverwas, alas, my heart doth yearn for his poisoned touch.
Another reason Gundham fought back so much during the trial is that they kept insisting that he snuck up on Nekomaru and pressed his Goodnight Button, without giving him a chance to fight back. Ironically, despite wanting to be seen as a villain, this action insults him deeply because it’s so underhanded. The reality is that he made his intentions clear to Nekomaru, and gave him every opportunity to leave or fight back. He wanted everyone to know that Nekomaru was a fighter, not a victim, and that Gundham won fair and square. If he died without clarifying that, the killing would have come across as a selfish action, and not expressed his and Nekomaru’s final wish to save everybody. Edit: I feel like Gundham and Kokichi have a lot in common. Both put on a villainous persona but deep down have good intentions and genuinely want to be friends with everyone. But they both hide behind their personas, and end up sacrificing themselves for the others (with a willing participate helping too). I guess I see why I like them both so much now that I think of it.
it’s so funny that theirs so much to gundham, but people still only degrade him down to “ emo hamster man “ or simply him saying his name in his natural heavy tone. this is just simple reasons why i kin/ love him :$
I found this channel by accident and I really love what you are doing! Your analysis are my favorites as it's really hard for me to read analysis written in text, so hearing it in audio form helps a lot! I don't have any requests, I just wanted to tell you that I love this channel. Keep up the good work!
Gundam means the word to me. He was such a good character who lived for a decent amount of time. I love him for killing someone just for his friends. And Nekumaru’s sacrifice was amazing as well. Two great characters who died to save their friends..
I love this guy. I love his voice too. It's strangely soothing. I got limited time right now, but I am DEFINITELY going to watch this whole thing later!
Gundham is one of very few characters that I will get on a soap box and defend wholeheartedly. He's my favorite Danganronpa character and i would do anything for him. He is kind, smart and great with animals.
