@@MidnightOwl92 Close. According to Lucas, Qui-Gon's been saying to Obi-Wan the whole movie, "The handmaiden is the Queen in disguise," but Obi-Wan doesn't believe it. So here Qui-Gon's going, "Told you so."
The look on Obi Wan's face when Padme reveals herself as the queen has always stuck in my mind. Even after all these years. There are two other times that Obi Wan's reaction to Padme that have been imprinted in my memory. The 2nd one is when he checks on Padme after Anakin force chokes her on Mustafar and the way he is with her when she gives birth to Luke and Leia.
so sabé was keira knightley (pirates of the carrebean film series and jack ryan shadow recruit) and then queen amidala was natalie portman (v for vendetta, black swan and thor film series) respectively
There were a lot of cultural influences in The Phantom Menace, especially in regards to costuming and species concepts. Some were a little stereotypical while others were not.
Qui Gon looks like he always knew she was the queen,it’s like on Tattoine he was messing with her when she said ”the queen wouldn’t approve” and he just said ”the queen doesn’t need to know” with a smile.
It's entirely possible that, like Yoda, he could see people through the Force. Yoda could tell the clones apart that way, it would be easy to pick apart similar looking women when Jedi can distinguish identical men
Imagine their conversation after their marriage about this: Anakin: Remember when you lied to me and didn't tell me you were the real Queen. Padmé: Yeah. But you were just a child. Anakin: Still! You could have told Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon that you were the Queen! Padmé: It was Sabé's idea! Anakin: Sabé! Sabé: Hey, don't look at me! I was following her commands! Anakin: I need to go home and rethink my lifestyle...
During his teenage years, it must have been one hell of a memory that the girl he fell in love with was a queen all along, and she watched him winning the Boonta Eve Classic.
Anakin didn't knowed that Padme was a queen and is that because they team up together to Free Naboo from Federation. Now i hope that Anakin might hide Bad Batch on Naboo to keep them safe from Palaptine. I hope that Anakin will see for the last time Jar Jar and Sabe and even Ezra and Ahsoka and Boba and Bad Batch before return of Jedi
@@jordanjamison97 That's a very good point, its a lot easier for all of them to sound the same. Its crazy how much Natalie and Keira look the same, but Keira was 12 there and is now about 6 inches taller than Natalie.
@@gentlebabarian Canonically, it's both: To blend in with the decoys and be taken more seriously. That last one is also why she dresses so bloody grandiosely.
4:38 Always brings a huge smile to my face when Rugor Nass agrees to form an alliance and officially becomes friends with the people of Naboo. Uniting as one and ending an untold amount of time of uneasiness between their two peoples.
@@tmac731 She only deceived them in order to protect. Sometimes people lied about their identity because it's not safe for everyone to know who you are and it's for your own good
0:06 I love that little bit of detail of Anakin understanding the controls of the ship. And earlier on in the film, we got to see his job and how he was able to gain experience as a pilot before actually flying a real fighter ship in the finale. See, Disney? This is how you give out a good explanation for one character’s skill and knowledge. We didn’t see much of that with Rey.
I saw a video analysis on why Luke is not a Mary sue but Rey is in RU-vid. It brought up some great points like Luke saying he used to bulseye wombats and references to him having piloting skill. Then he doesn't use a lightssber or force powers to defeat enemies in this movie. He just used an X-Wing and its torpedoes with some feeling in the force. Mostly using skills he had previous knowledge of and not using Jedi skills until the next movie after training
Is it just me or do anyone kinda find the handmaidens standing by his side and protecting little Anakin (I perceived it that way) at 2:05 kinda adorable?
Not this guys. The Separatists have both good and bad. Some have legitimate grievences, others are assholes. The TF are greedy and evil. That's why you have that line "heroes on both sides".
I love this movie, and I think the twist with Amidala and Sabe was brilliant, I did cop earlier, as I knew that Natalie Portman was the queen it made no sense she was the handmaiden also, but I couldn't figure it. they definitely dubbed both actresses with the same voice to fool the viewer. but the CGI is terrible in this movie, it is very bad esp, the Boss Nass, I understand it was 1999, but it is not standing up to the test of time; Puppetry would have been better for at least Boss Nass as he only really had still moments, not a lot of movement and make the army of Gungans CGI. or at least improve his CGI like they did with YODA.
I was going to suggest a live action remake of TCW, but then I remembered how they made Cad Bane look like and immediately changed my mind. I don't want them butchering anymore characters like that
I wish at the time Kiera knightly instead had played the Padme character instead of Portman she was terrible in these Star Wars movies at the time there was no emotion in her acting this is just my opinion.
You know this is what I love about Padmé. She fights after diplomacy fails. She doesn't just allow her people to suffer and die. She is not a diehard pacifist like Satine is; Satine who ultimately failed her people and died for it.
Fun Fact: Brian Blessed (Boss Nass' voice actor) said that he wasn't given any scripted lines for the part where Nass decides to help the Naboo. He improvised all of that dialogue on his own! George Lucas was so happy with it that he used it in the film as is.
1:08 reminds me of revenge of the sith. When Obi Wan tells Anakin how proud he is of him. He loved Qui Gon and he loved Anakin. Tragically he lost them both through the intervention of the Sith.
Funfact, Padmé and Sabé was very close as characters. Padmé and Sabé developed a set of signals they would use, while in disguise, to convey messages without arousing suspicion. The queen would give her dialect lessons to aid her mimicry, but Sabé was always afraid that she would give away the ruse. Though Sabé was usually first in line to play the role of "false queen," the other handmaidens could also fill the position if needs be. Due to her role as Padmé's decoy, Sabé was considered to be the most important of the queen's bodyguards. During her time as a handmaiden, Sabé became close friends with Padmé.
read the book "Queen's Shadow" which took place 4 years after the phantom menace (right as her term as queen was up and her becoming a senator) its explained the outfits and makeup were always a way to distract people from the face so when she had to a swap no one would notice any differences. She created the voice that Sabe (aka decoy) could easy replicate. its such a great job, a protocol droid didnt notice the swap
We need to give big props to Natalie Portman and Kiera Knightley. They each played the role of “queen Amidala” to perfection. For so long, I never noticed that they were two separate people. I just assumed the makeup was different for some scenes and that’s why she looked different from how she did in her jntitial appearance in the beginning of the movie. They did a great job and George Lucas did a great job in directing them. Say what you will about George Lucas and his stilted dialogue but he damn sure knows how to write a strong female character.
Damn I was sure he figured us out by the time I realized the nigga was a god damn mind reader solo🤙 it's like I always say fuck it but there are plenty of others
Watching it knowing she’s acting like a handmaiden is so funny because she keeps telling Qui-Gon how the queen wouldn’t like him doing something on tattooine and he just dismisses her saying “Yeah she would”
Random thing I noticed, after padme kneels and the screen pans back so you can see everyone following her, little Anakin is like already half way on the ground. Like he saw padme kneels and just instantly copied.
