Sam Roberts joins Dave LaGreca on SiriusXM’s Busted Open to interview Gunther at Summerslam about his reign as Intercontinental champion, his philosophy on performing, growing up watching Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, and a lot more.
Gunther is great, was not sure at the start but after all these matches and this reign gained a new fan here, the brutal beat downs and dominance is what we as fans respect the longest reigning IC champ of all time it’s awesome to witness !
He went from being a guy I didn't want to see break tonk's record to being a guy I want to see hold it 1000 days plus and blow the record out of the water pretty quickly this year. What he's been doing is crazy, if they do have him drop it at some point I hope it leads to a main event push, he's good.
Anti-hero who you love to respect is the style of babyface he could do very well. He's already had incredible matches where his character proved himself with zero help or cheating.
@@KingSilly yeah but maybe he thought it was going to go in the wrong direction, obviously, no one knew what Gunther was going to become. I think it’s a dumb reason to use this comment section to trash Keith Lee.
Without a doubt the best in the world right now. Incredible in the ring, professional, well spoken, and seemingly very down to earth and humble. I can't wait to see how far he goes.
It took me a long time to warm up to him but I now love Gunther. The reason I love wrestlers like Gunther (and Rhea Ripley as well) is theyre just very basic pro wrestling which to me is timeless. You could take him and put him in a 70s with Sammartino or an 80s ring with Steamboat or a 90s ring with Hart and it would still work (could say the same with Ripley though womens wrestling is more hit and miss but she wouldve been an attraction as a manager).
"I'm in the longest reign with those guys, and I'm doing it my way". That speaks on a whole different level when you realize (or watched) how The Honky Tonk Man held the title for the longest reign up to this point.
I love Gunther hes the Greatest Intercontinental Champion wwe ever had in my book n the only heel that never cheats when he wrestles he Gives the loudest n Best chops ever
Gunther from what I’m seeing is a stud. Elevated a title that lost a lot of meaning over the years. He seems very candid with how he speaks like that from wrestlers during interviews straight forward and appreciative of the time of the interviewers give and vice versa
Not only are you on the list of greatest IC Champs ever, I think it's very likely you will be the best when this title reign does finally end. You have an incredible career ahead of you brother, I'm so glad to have started watching again the last few years and seeing this run! I've only known you as Gunther and I think it's got a better ring to it as Walter is a name too attached to Walter White at this point in pop culture.
Gunther maybe a legitimate technical destroyer in the ring but what an absolute refined gentleman for sure 🙏🇦🇹👑, so happy he made history in the Carolinas last night with gable.
hes a great ic champion one of the best top 5 but for me hes another brock lesnar where he doesnt need to talk on the mic to cut a story or promo becuase he does that all in the ring without no mic brock was the same in that sense thats why i want to hopefully see them both fight at wm40 where brock retires as rumored
Greatest ic champion ever. They can’t turn him jobber when he loses it as a matter of fact after he breaks the record he can lose it in a ladder match or something where he remains undefeated and then make a world title run
Absolutely, he will undoubtedly remain in that top card position or very near it for the rest of his career. I imagine he will even have a true face run as well but, maybe his German accent will hold him from doing that as world champ. Either way he will definitely be a top heel world champion at some point and stay there for a while.
We need more wrestlers like this guy, Sheamus, McIntyre, Reigns, Brock, etc. Practically 80% of the wrestlers now are overly inked-up high-flyers or brawlers who either look like a superhero, or an average joe. We need more wrestlers who actually wrestle. I miss the good ol' days when at least half the roster were physically imposing beasts. They don't have to look ripped. They just gotta look intimidating and convincing in the ring.
@@QCS_AdamCole gross imagine pretending to be Adam Cole. Bro out here with less subs than me trying to fool people he's Adam Cole 🤡 this conversation is over due to you proving you're not working with a full deck of cards
@@KingSilly you think I don't have proof? Me, Adam Cole, pro debut in 1998, trained by Nelson Royal & Dory Funk. Fast forward to 2009 & a buddy in FL called & put me on the line with Austin Jenkins, the man who was just getting started & we joked about him using my name.
@@haziqizuddin8133 Goldberg was Stronger and powerful than Gunther but Bret hart beat him because of his technique and submission that's all with his he would beat Gunther
I would have said the same, until Gunther started carrying it. His whole gimmick is that he hates the flashy entertainment side of wrestling. The belt is very plain & simple which compliments his character perfectly.
