Guo Pei | Haute Couture Spring Summer 2018 by Guo Pei | Full Fashion Show in High Definition. (Widescreen - Exclusive Video/1080p - PFW/Paris Fashion Week)
Also, most of the people who attend these shows see something they like and then afterwards have like 200 alterations made to it until it becomes something wearable:)
Yes, you could make a strong argument that these creations are "textile art" pieces (and they are!), but haute couture should be more sophisticated and less bluntly theatrical than this. Still, there's no denying that the imagination from which these costumes were drawn is prodigious. I'd love to see what Ms. Pei would design for the Metropolitan Opera's productions.
*Lets take a minute to appreciate the unsung heros... the craftsman/tailors who made the designers sketch into a reality... the models who walked with those uncomfortable dresses and heels so that we can enjoy the beauty... the wonderful event management and interior decorations... and well... whomevr im unaware of! Good job to designers!*
Petepdx1 well couture means high fashion. Most couture pieces are not meant to be worn like everyday clothing and are more to be collected and admired. Haute couture is to showcase a designers artistic vision and craftsmanship through clothing. People who buy these pieces are couture collectors and have the money to spend or are so rich they collect as a hobby. It isn’t supposed to be practical or for everyone to wear tbh. Many couture admirers would kill to own at least one couture piece from designers such as Guo Pei, who are pushing the boundaries of high fashion.
This is really couture on another level, the craftsmanship, the idea, the different fabrication, the beading and the whole assemble is just out of this world. GP is really talented !
As a model trainee, I'm so jealous how they all nailed walking on those beautifully difficult clothes. Especially on those heels damn. I applaud these models 👏👏👏
That moment Guo Pei, a Chinese Haute Couture designer has a more diverse pool of models than American and European designers lmao. For real though. I would die to have a glimpse into her extraordinary mind.
Consrignrant she utilizes women from all over the world. There are 3 or 4 African models here. Her earlier work was mostly Asian women. She tends to hire a lot of taller women. Maybe for effect.
It don't wearable or unwearable but it's the artwork of designer which represent to their intelligence, ability and creativity. It's a real of Haute couture!
The most artistic 'art' fashion house there is...unbelievable designer that creates a story for each collection. The Cirque Du Soleil of the fashion world.
please watch old collections of McQueen, Galliano. Throw in some Givenchy, YSL and Chanel for good measure. You’ll find aspects of this show done before. No hate to Guo Pei. but yet creepily reminds of Mcqueen’s greatest works.
Fernando Fuentes - I was about to say that McQueen broke the mold, but many of these looks hark back to Chinese court dress - in particular the shoes, the nails, and the elaborate jewels and magnificent embroidery. The whole presentation reminded me of an exotic court ball, where the attendees are presented to the emperor.
Did.. what... WAS THIS THE COURT OF A FAERIE QUEEN?! What did I just see?! Everything had beautiful embroidery, an exquisite use of color and texture, glittering rhinestone, sequin, and bead placement! This wasn't just artistic fashion, it felt like I was transported to the halls beneath the hill to watch the ladies of the Fae courts battle with fashion and the Seelie Queen just sweeps in at the end with a face that says "Oh, honey, you call that fashion?" I'm *dumbfounded*
the white finale was the queen, the rest are nymphs of her court, the white queen sacrificed her brief appearance on stage and won herself a legacy existing among the nymphs in her absence; the gold lady is a story teller, appearing both at the start and end, like narrating the start and finish of a story of the forest.
SERIOUSLY. the next super epic fantasy movie that comes out, where we need insanely magical costumes for faeries and elves, THIS WOMAN needs to be that designer. like cersei's dresses in game of thrones. Imagine, if she'd done some of those? i would LOVE to see her design costumes for some super high fantasy movie that's not even set in this world. she would knock it out of the park
You are excused. goodbye. I just sent these results to a lab and they have confirmed that you were dropped on the head as a child. How could you even put Gao Pei and Iris Van Harpen in the same sentence?
There were a few looks where it was clear the girl could not possibly fall without snapping multiple bones...in particular the one look all in gold, where the girl was encased in some sort of metal frame that held her rigidly in position, and her forearms were enclosed in golden gauntlets that extended past her elbows so she couldn't bend her arms. If she fell, it would be the end of her life as she knew it.
It's an art form that is explored in the movement, the flow, the way the light plays with the details. Took me a while to figure out why some outfits seem so obscene and ridiculous growing up. Taken out of context of the group (i.e. a tree trunk) it does seem really odd. But once you discover the others, (flowers, leaves, fairytale, etc.) It not only makes sense, but becomes beautiful. You can see and feel the inspiration play through the artist's mind, their hands. Then the final performance, everything takes on a whole new level of incredible as the stage brings the creations to life. It's breathtaking really. Not just the clothes, but the amount of time, love, and dedication it took to create something so unique and lovely.
As an Asian, I found it so Asian, finally there was an haute couture shown Asian culture and history value in the right way. Western fashion had tried to show the west meet the east for rich customers in Asia but in a very misunderstood way.
Thoughts: - I love this collection....so surreal and so fairytale like. - Wish Guo Pei included more Asian models in her collection - Some of these shoes looked difficult to walk in but yet so beautiful...such is the price of art - Loved every single dress except for the final two. It was a little anticlimatic!
Why people are comparing this collection to Alexander McQueen? Obviously a lot of people knows nothing about fashion around here. This collection is super beautiful. Totally Chinese inspired shapes and motives.
Danny Valentin There are obvious similarities between this collection and some of the last ones McQueen designed. Overly high, strangely rounded shoes, stiff dresses, intricate beading, pastel tones, symmetrical, alien-like hairdo's on the models etc. But all of this is something many couture houses have done before. Just because it's similar it doesn't mean GP copied McQueen or it doesn't have Chinese themes to it.
Because people dont actually know ANYTHING and just hear Alexander's name and know about lady gaga and just want to act like they know what they're talking about lol go to any other fashion show video that has some weird intricate designs and you'll be seeing the same shit lol
I think a lot of people saw the shoes and weird hair and a lot of gold-It's definitely lazy to compare it to McQueen. That whole 'white and gold' thing he did at Givenchy was just to make a break from Galliano, and it wasn't even a collection he himself liked. There is a risk of people drawing comparisons when you go towards the mythical, fairytale look. Anyone who has an interest in fashion can see the Chinese influence here. If someone's going to compare it to McQueen, they could just as easily turn around and draw another blatant comparison, like the use of gold to Klimt's 'The Kiss'. The shoes and restricted dresses and bading aren't exclusive to Alexander McQueen.
The collection is awesome...I felt like being transported to a land of fantasy. The shoes, headgears wow. She has even launched a bridal collection I think..
I’m just starting to have an interest in this high fashion. And omg! What an amazing show!!! The look and woman that opened the show?! 👏🏽👏🏽 Literally art. So intriguing! 😍😍
FINALLY WE GETTING WHAT PEOPLE WANT! Dior and honestly every other more known couture brands are just so boring nowadays. They just slap their name onto everything and call it luxury. We want new and bold things WOW us away. Guo Pei is giving us that.
wonderful... the magic is coming back. Her best work is when she is not trying to be "european". keep it full chineses, full of magic!!!! And, about the shoes.... please, i want a pair in every color!
Brendon Urie On Ice You’re imagining Utopian future, where everything from buildings, clothing, and lifestyles are perfect upon these world, but unfortunately realistically we, middle classes would never afford those Couture dresses and gowns. Imagine running to the subway in that which are very impractical in today society.
Surreal, stunning, disturbing, sublime and psychotic. Some mention that it doesn’t matter if it’s wearable, that it’s art. But once you have combined the living human body with these components, the symbiosis demands function.
A prime example of how much I adore asian culture. They really know how to wow an audience. Highly respected in my opinion. I agree with everyone in the comments. Nothing less than greatness within this collection. I would love to be able to create something as beautiful as this.
Dániel Halmi vibes lol, you mean the brand character i guess its 2018 dear fashion designers are everywhere more than potatos. you cant creat a specific brand character for every single designer out there.. you can find many brands sharing the same point of view about women.
If its giving you the McQueen's kinda vibe. Than she should be the new creative director of Alexander McQueen. Tbh McQueens brands have gone quiet pedestrian lately.
Breathtaking! Beautiful remarkable creations here. Artist and team clearly worked hard and long for this. Head to toe thoughtful pieces. Bravo, great show! 💐 In my dreams I would be a model wearing one of these gorgeous gowns!
That was more of a costume fashion show than fashion but all the same it was breathtaking. I want to see more of this....truly inspirational....reminds of cirque du soleil
miamiguy119 Haute couture isn't for the normal person. That's why it's never really advertised to the general public. Private shows for the extremely wealthy, crave differance and that are very eccentric. Secret society clothing that few are invited in to see and or wear. The designs are made for movie productions aswell but mainly to set the very wealthy apart form the common wealth. Symbolic clothing!
because it makes you think of the previous designer. A copy even though studded with diamonds is still a copy. I remember when McQueen’s and Galliano’s presentations. Ive never seen any thing like those, but here I can recall certain collections and pieces stradling the line of ‘homage’ and ‘ripoff’.
Ken Lim in fashion everything is a inspiration of something from the past. Everything has been done before so there isn't anything new per say. However her level of craftsmenship I would not say is a copy except the shoes can be seen as a homage to McQueen.
livii I agree! I love that interview (I can't remember where it was aired, but it's on YT) with Lee McQueen and he just trns to the interviewer and says, 'Ah, it's all been done before-You just have to do it in your own way!'
The Make up, the design, the details, the stage, the models are all beautiful! This was 2018 but I watched it just now (in 2019), sure its late but if I can have an opportunity to come & see to the next fashion show, I will be very grateful... So beautiful & strongly unique.. The details are amazing! Well done!
merci pour ce sublime défilé !!les tissus sont recherchés, les broderies magnifiques. ne parlons pas des accessoires !et les chaussures !!!vous m'avez fait rêver ,Guo Pei .merci encore
I just saw the Guo Pei show at the art museum in San Francisco. EIGHTY pieces, many of which were in this video. She has a shop of 300 classic Chinese embroiderers and one of the dresses took them 50,000 hours to complete, using 24K gold threads that were so fine that they broke after three stitches and had to be reknotted with tweezers. Stunningly beautiful creations. Now THIS is wearable fine art!
I liked it. The first set of pieces were divine. I like the fantasy aspect of fashion and being overwhelmed and this collection has definitely done that.
Mcqueen was better, 100% nobody will ever beat him. But this was beautiful, i just don’t feel anything the same way i felt with mcqueen. Mcqueen was just so natural in a way...
I am not a fashionista and this is in my recommendation, so I watched the whole video only because the dresses are just so beautifully designed master piece that caught me away, it is a work of art.
I am literally SPEECHLESS after binge-watching Guo Pei this evening. These designs are Other-Worldly.... Lovely, Witty, and Art from a Galaxy I'd love to visit.
