I live in a really, really remote part of Australia, not a hope of a Guinness and even if there was, it'd be nothing like my local back in Mayo, but I can get cans if this on occasion when the barge comes in from the mainland. I managed to get a 6 pack of this after work tonight and I'm happy out. I can't wait to come back and have a proper pint, but this will keep me going until I can travel back to Ireland.
My *Favorite* but it is so hard to find. We don't have the cans around me (Washington state) so I have to wait to go to an "Irish Pub" to find it but I occasionally find it while traveling in pubs.
Loved your review. Twelve years ago during a St-Patrick's night out I discovered Kilkenny at a local Irish pub here in Montreal. Let me tell you I had about the same reaction. You"ll be surprised to know that I have not tried Guinness yet ( I know I know ) but after your review I will definitely try it now. CHEERS!!
8.6..boom. I discovered Kilkenny a few months ago in Oz and I can't agree more..what a fantastic drop..the only crappy thing in Oz is that it comes in 440ml cans
Had my first pint of this in Rome - it was bloody lovely. It's in stock all over Italy. If anyone knows of any pubs where you can buy a pint in London, do let me know!
Hey man. Im going to Europe for a month all of July. I am visiting my home country Bosnia but the beer there is pure shit. Is it in Italian grocery stores up in the northern area? I wouldn’t mind doing a road trip. I had Kilkenny last week in tap in Vegas and I am having some serious withdraws. Im like a crackhead needing more LOL
It's incredibly hard to find this damn beer in the USA. Had it once in Rhode Island and fell in love. Been living in Virginia and Tennessee and its nowhere to be found. Can't even find it on Google.
@@DaireSheehan He speaks for a pretty small group of people at this point, most people know that the independent sector produces the best beer, I don't use the term 'craft' as its just independent beer. Also people who hate on 'craft' are generally those who go into Aldi or Lidl and pick stuff up and don't think its any better or worse than macro stuff which it is, its just aldi / lidl trying to cash in, quality of that stuff is awful. Need to use a bottleshop or go direct to the brewers for the best stuff.
@@Hometruths29 No such thing as 'over hopping' really, especially not in something like Leffe Blonde. Most beer has an element of bitterness that's generally why we come back sip after sip.
@@Hometruths29 I kind of meant it in the literal sense of nobody is going to put too many hops in a beer. If lots of hops is what people like (which they do) they will fill a beer full of hops. Hops don't have to result in bitterness if they are put in hot side they result in bitterness, if you put them in cold side you end up with aromatics and flavor, there are reasons to do both and styles within IPA that represent either side of that scale, east coast being more fruity and aromatic, west coast being more resinous and bitter. You mention 'sour bitterness' would say you've been trying the wrong beers, I love both West Coast and East Coast style IPA's and never had an experience i would define as 'sour bitterness'. I have had plenty of sour IPA's but that's a whole different ball park / topic, but they are also lovely beers.
@@Hometruths29 I guess my point is... just because there is beer out there traditional or more modern that is not to your taste or that your palate cant take, doesn't mean its over hopped etc, its just that you don't like it, which is fine, but that doesn't make it wrong.
I buy Kilkenny for a treat because its amazing and if I see it in a pub I'll buy a few pints, it just tastes so good, its mainly sold in touristy pubs I think because the tourists love it. Funny thing is smithicks was made in Kilkenny and Kilkenny was always made in Dublin, they called it Kilkenny because they mainly sell it over sea's and foreigners can't pronounce the name smithwicks properly so they stuck with the name Kilkenny even though both beers don't taste anything like each other
I totally agree with you. Best ale around. Very hard to find on this side of the pond, though. We have one place in New Jersey that I'm aware of, Dooney's Irish Pub. The other place was called Kilkenny in northern New Jersey but they closed down. I'm moving away and will have no access to this nectar of the gods.
I hated Guiness years ago for its flavour way back then, but a few years ago it appeared on the shelves as "new recipe Guiness". Thought I'd give it a go, and it became my favourite beer right there. Favourite for winter drinking, but kept Tetley's for summer. But more recently I tried Kilkenny. And yes, as you tried Kilkenny in your video, you described it exactly as i do. It's a brilliant beer, in every way. It became my all-year-round favourite, instantly, no messing. (I wouldn't turn my back on Guiness completely though; sometimes you just need that particular taste.) And it's as you say: it's quality, and top quality usually comes at top cost. Nice review!
Sweet Jesus! I love your reaction to this! I do love a real creamy Guinness, but sometimes find the burnt notes a bit overwhelming (especially in the bottled version). I'm from the south of England originally and would order a mild ale, but they are impossible to find in the rest of the world. Kilkenny is a superb drop: malty, tasty, and perfectly balanced. Enjoying a couple in the bath as we speak...
If you love Kilkenny then I know you'll love John Smith's extra smooth, it has a widget and tastes really good if not better than Kilkenny, worth a try.
U remind me of myself before i left ireland in 2010 for australia and here ever since ,guiness is muck here i use the cans and ultrasonic jewelery cleaner rather than go pub for pints of guiness, kilkenny draught is huge in oz all the irish drink it as a more consistent alternative to the terrible guiness, its bigger than guiness here and flows and taste amazing when i do go out i drink kilkenny
Smithwick's is different than Kilkenny. The "red ale" tap branding on Smithwick's was just branding, it's exactly the same product, always was an Irish red Ale. I am from the North, currently off alcohol because I didn't trust myself over lockdown, had a few last Xmas, that's it, very hard to do for a home brewer😩 But honestly I am enjoying having no fat beer belly. If you ever venture North, I would happily meet you in my home town of Donaghadee, take you to Grace Neil's, which is the oldest public house in Ireland. Also haunted BTW!
Love Kilkenny, you should try Caffreys and John Smyth, they are very similar. Caffreys is my favourite but I haven’t seen it in a long time so not sure if you can get it any more
Had a pint of Kilkenny in Kytelers in Kilkenny a few years back and I honestly had the same suprise as you - its a lovely scoop! They also serve it in Mulligans on poolbeg st Dublin👌🏼
Only discovered this during lockdown….. great aould treat!! Would love to taste it if available on draft 🤷🏼♂️ and it something like €3.50 in shops now 😢
Caffreys is still a nice pint and also in a can and I do like my Guinness. Would love to try this but I can't get it in England, which is criminal! Agree about craft beers being rubbish and some mention John Smiths here which is also crap. Tetleys smooth is lovely and even Boddingtons has improved the last couple of years but if anyone can point me towards where I can get Kilkennys then I'm all ears!
This is a really nice beer smooth and creamy i remember when i first tasted in a Irish pub in London England brings back memories after work with the lads on draught ice cold yummy
I do fancy a Killkenny now 😊 Does anyone else remember Calders cream ale? What ever happened to that? I used to love a point during my Friday lunch break.
I've seen pics on the net, Bi ekk looks good, non in my West Yorkshire shops though...I'm getting me some ordered!!! Love Guinness( Porter too) & Murphys tap or can. The Kilkenny can looks great too! Cheers Grant 🍻 😉
Kilkenny is the bees knees. It's possible only Victorians (Australia, Victoria) will understand this but, Kilkenny is what you drink because you like drinking beer. It's what you drink around the camp fire before you get so pissed (drunk) that you'll drink anything. You can then start on the VB or any other shit beer to keep you going as you won't notice the difference at that stage (and it's a damn sight cheaper!).
U should try kilkenny with your ultra sonic foamer...would love too see how it comes out, plus if u punch a tiny hole at the top of the can and leave out the gas slowly, u get a better head
Used to drink one like this called Wexford. It was fuckin lush smooth and went down a treat. Can't find it anymore though seems this is the closest thing
Helo dara ive been trying to get a hold of the killkeny cream ale carnt get it from any were i live in the northeast of england can u not send some over nd ill sort ye out with thd payment chers mate 👍
