Just heard the sad news. Came to see you many times, and it was always a priviledge to shake your hand, you were loved and appreciated in the UK, it was always about the quality!!! RIP
will never forget dancing to this song at a house party in Boston USA just after camp, I remember that I was in a row with my girlfriend at the time but i heard this and it just made me want to dance
this makes me wanna cry!!...only those who knew and respected real hiphop would understand this irreplaceable loss!...RIP GURU!..may you eternally be "loungin" in heaven..
I had never heard this version before. They played a different one on the radio. I never knew they made a video for this song. Guru has such a distinctive voice. I love to hear him rap.
Ahah hell yea it does! An kickin it 20 years later The GURU however, forever on in us. He in there preachin to me when i be gettin those thoughts that could take me away from the people that need the Love most from me rite now..RIP KEITH
I been waiting to watch this video forever!!!! This was such a cute video and I LOVE the video version of this song. I wanted Guru and N'dea to get married and start a family. They had great chemistry.
@instupitious - You are so right. Sadly, Guru was not "relevant" to mainstream media. He wasn't locked up in jail, he wasn't ambushed in a drive-by shooting, the IRS wasn't on his ass, he didn't have 'beef" with other artists, and he wasn't in and out of court with multiple paternity cases. Further proof that the music industry and the media are FULL OF IT!
In a way I agree. . . I like both versions equally because they both bring qualities to the table that are great for different situations. . . thats the beauty of music, being able to work in different dimensions (emotional etc.) This new sound to the song gives the words and emotions about it an entirely new "audience" of dimensions. :)
@cannabisbroker - yes he passed away in April of cancer. He was - and is - a real legend. I first heard him in highschool in 1992, and I still play his records today. R.I.P. to the Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal
I met the GURU in 1997,we did a music video together called "UNSTOPPABLE" by MAMA MYSTIQUE Featuring the LOX,In the video i'm wearing a black leather vest with black pants and a white blouse,My hair in flat twists with Shirley Temple curls,I have on Burgundy Lipstick,I'm dancing in the club,Holding onto a stripper pole,in this video is my friend Alieen from show MTV THE GRIND,she is the redhead chick,Both chicks in this video are MTV THE GRIND DANCERS,as well as myself,I saw GURU at JFK in 1997.
"GURU never fails to impress!" Yeah, right. -.- Guru on the Intro for Jazzmatazz Vol. 02: The New Reality: "I'm talkin' about a mind revolution ... a 360 degree mind revolution!" Get it?!
R.I.P. Jazzmatazz IS one of my all-time favourites, and I don't see it going out of style anytime soon. I'm going to spark one for ya right fucking now.
Whats sad is that MTV, BET, and VH1 will likely only give his passing 30seconds of memory today. And fill the difference with Poopin' bottles, ice, 16 yo prego girls and BS reality tv. Peace Guru-- Smart people with good taste will never forget you
@AshleyPearce123 No it doesn't matter if they were lovers or not. I was reading stories that was surfacing after his death. Including the ones from his family & how Solar was tripping about letting them see him. From what I had read it sounded like more was going on. I wrote this comment because I wanted someone (like you) to comment on what they heard or knew about the situation.
In 1997 at JFK airport i saw GURU traveling alone on AMERICAN AIRLINES going to cali,we talked about our video shoot with MAMA MYSTIQUE,I feel GURU was a nice polite man,But an underrated rapper he was not exposed like rapper LL COOL J,Maybe it was his mangement,LL cool J was rolling with RIK RUBEN whick led him to DEF JAM,Alot of artist have wack managers, and they dont know how to promote their artist,or they just lazy,i been in this game since 1992,maybe earlier,i have seen some wack moves.
does anyone know the remix of this great song? it was a different version and wow was it amazing ! this version is also great of course but i wonder were the other one is? i heard it only once on the radio back in summer of 1993.
@instupitious Unfortunately...genius in the US music industry only is measured in platinum sales or bought-out awards (IMO)...only years later when people realize who were the true innovators of music were/are...Guru was one of those-at least we can stand here and say that we knew greatness when we hear/see it! Peace 2 U-Guru....U will be missed but not your music!
