Rugby league in Australia owes everything to 4 players from both states. Equal 1st Arthur beetson and Tommy radonikis. Equal 2nd Wally Lewis and Steve Mortimer. There’s been plenty of legends come and go but Arthur and Tommy gave the maroon and blue authenticity. Wally gave Queensland identity and Steve Mortimer gave New South Wales heart. Any of those 4 don’t exist and we might as well have that super league tri series that had nsw QLD and NZ.
@@theaustralianfoodshop7640 are you kidding? They were favourites before the series started. After game 1, NSW were paying $5 to win the series. If QLD win tonight, they will all start claiming how they won against all odds.
@@AJ-gq3jl yep, I can see how that got confused. Definitely a Blues supporter here, and definitely sick and tired of QLD saying "you've written us off" when literally no one has...
From listening to this the day of the game, to rewatching bits just after... Gus is a genius. His footy brain is so good. Qld won't capitulate early but NSW will come over the top in the end. You won't get the calls but you need to win anyway. Bring back the last word in '25.
Gus: "Never rule out Queensland. They are a different beast in Brisbane" 10 minutes later: "Queensland are shithouse. Holes everywhere. NSW will be disappointed if they don't win by a thousand".
Thats true, but it was also the economic opportunities in Sydney were greater than in NSW country or QLD back then, and Sydneys Eastern and Northern suburbs were the most desired living locations in Australia.
This would've been completely unwatchable without the amazing plantages in the background. Whoever found those two bits of green is an interior decor genius.
ONE THING NSW MUST STOP is the long walk into Accor; are we kidding 300-400m before the game, madness, and look at the record in those games. A stupid, stupid gimmick giving Queensland a MASSIVE advantage.
Let’s just remember, before the series started. Queensland were the favourites and after game 1, NSW were paying $5 to win the series. If Queensland win tonight, just wait for the narrative to change to “ nobody believed in us and we won against all odds” or if NSW win, it will be “ yeah but look how bad our team was, NSW had the better team”.
then why did Luke keary play for nsw? then why did ken nagas play for nsw? then why did Chris Johns play for nsw? then why did peter sterling play for nsw? then why did akuila uate play for nsw, timana Tahu, James Tamou? Junior Paulo? and more i could name them! CMON QUEENSLAND!
@@owenrees7544 I know the history of State of origin being watching it since 1991! i know it began in 1982 and the interstate series was in the 1970s Nsw were poaching stealing Queensland players< they started the cheating! yeah you right! im happy to educate them in a respectful way! i believe in human respect!
The biggest thing NSW needs to take out of game two was the how many tackles in there own 20 or half it wasn't even a full set in the first half now do that again for both half's and they will be all sweet
I think it will depend. If Walsh is on fire, and Tom is on fire. Ponga stays on the bench. Ponga is the back up. He will go wing if an outside back gets hurt, and be switched in if a 6 or 1 is having a hard time.
@@JamesWillis-yy5px I agree for the most part (however) Tommy.D on fire and K.Ponga on fire are two different ends of the spectrum Push came to shove it’s Tom sitting
@@JamesWillis-yy5px exactly champ! Ponga at his best is on par with the greats (like its some sort of spirit that possesses them)!! Tom.D will do a job but kinda knows his place when Ponga is in the mix... Who bloody knows they might play together?!
One thing I noticed in Walsh’s last game for Brisbane. He defended a lot in the line and tried hitting people in defence. He also spent a considerable amount of time being a pseudo halfback. So to me that was a preparation for origin and pings defending at the back and Walsh in the line.
It’s almost like nsw forget they also have a home game in Sydney 🤦🏻♂️ Which is a larger stadium with a larger crowd. Or does the ref only listen to Qlders. The refs that have all been from nsw the last 30 years 🤷🏻♂️
Great game all around 👌 still proud of how we played especially defending on our line unfortunately don’t see the sense on both teams losing a player for 10 minutes over basically a push and a shove and think all fans would much prefer to see 13 on 13 when there’s no advantage that either team.
Now that we have a home game each and a game at a neutral ground, why don't we play game 3 at the neutral ground? If there is a decider then isn't it fair to both teams to have it at the neutral ground?
Games outside NSW are all QLD home games. The crowds are never pro NSW. NSW has barely had 2 home games in NSW for 16 years. QLD always gets their 2 home games in QLD if it's their turn and when it's not they get one from Nsw.
Shut up Gus, we don't care. But props to you reaching deep into your Coaching Experience and Lang Park knowledge. Everyone forgets how haunting the slow Queeeeennnssssllllannndeeeer chant back in the golden days. Qld 14plus
From and QLDr: QLD should be a bit worried Blues are big and strong We need momentum early We have speed and points Possession is key Mitchell isn’t there Close close game
I agree with Gus on everything he said ..except for hes comments regarding Bradman Best..hes right about Best having some defensive problems..but to say he would of done the same as Latrell Mitchell had he played in Origin 2..l just cant agree with that Gus..l see what Gus is trying to do by building Best up like he did & he is a handfull with hes size and pace..but Latrell Mitchell has all that himself and plenty more..he is a big loss for the Blues..but Best will do the job needed
@@simonjames772I don’t know. I would like it to be Alfie langer. But guys like Sterling or Coote also deserve it and I believe deserve it before Alfie but I could say that about Joey so I don’t know that they have any order.
When Gus did the final word, 9 times out of 10 the blues lost. Even doing commentary! And im a blues supporter die hard. In saying that, qld need Sua, Fifita and Tino to match this blues side.
Hey Gus you putting some Preassure on your Boys ...Fair enough Game plan when playing a bigger side , Kick often and Kick Early turn those big fuckers aounrd and around and around ...
All gus is doing is planting seeds of doubt in qld fans heads to quiet them down during the game by constantly saying qld cant hold them cant win cant do it
We’re no hope New South Wales is to good there are no weaknesses they’re unbeaten with Moses at 7. Queensland might as well not turn up. Right where we want to be
some weaknessses ? whole team is weak 2 little guys on bench no forward impact om bench capewell and kaufusi rolled out of pasture cobbo not truly happy walsh confidence ready to be rattled hunt and dreaden not consistent hammer coming off injury not a single hard man to install fear or bring back the biff its nsw to lose
