Vulnerability time - Back in Fall 2010/Spring 2011 I was going through one of the worst times of my life. I was a 19 year old full-time musician and my high school girlfriend of two years and I had just split up. However, we continued to be on and off again pretty consistently. There are a lot of reasons behind that, but let’s just say she really put me through the ringer during that time. On top of that there had been a fire at my parents’ house which forced us to live in a hotel for 3 months, and a few days after the fire my estranged grandfather passed away. So yeah, life sucked. I already knew this song at that point, but I started coming back to it multiple times a day during that period. Looking back at it, I’m not really sure why this song stuck so close to me back then. Maybe it was because the song is about missing your adolescence, and man did I really miss it during that time. Less drama, less hurt, and all fun. For me, anyway. Or maybe it was because it was the closing song in Disturbia, a movie I had already seen on multiple occasions but rediscovered during that time as well. I know that flick is considered a thriller, but at the end of the day it’s really a love story. And that’s all I really wanted - love. True, full-blown, the type you see on the movie screen, love. Looking back on those times they really sucked, but at the same time I’m grateful for every bit of it. That era of my life taught me so much and to be honest there were some great memories sprinkled in here and there. Anyway, things finally eased up. In October 2013 I met the girl of my dreams and I married her in June 2015. That being said, if anyone reading this is going though a crappy time, just know you’re not alone and this too shall pass. Things may look bleak now, but they’ll get better. I promise. To anyone in a bad relationship - get out while you can. You’re just wasting your time and your heart. There’s someone better out there waiting for you. I guarantee it. And finally, to anyone under 18 reading this - enjoy your school days and soak in every moment you have with your buddies. Get off social media and make some legit memories. Also, make sure you take lots of pictures together. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
