I listened to the presentation and ordered Dr Lin's book. In this book I've found extremely useful information which I have since applied and am encouraged by the positive results. Also realized that I suffer from sleep apnea due to mouth breathing, and have applied taping, also with promising results. One of the best health segments ever. Thanks to all who created this!
You don't play, busting out videos like block buster. Man every time you interview a person you ask exactly what I wanted to ask at that time. Glad I found this channel.
Another fantastic interview where so many pieces of health information came together and dovetailed with my own limited understanding. Thank you both for sharing this. The world needs more health practitioners like Stephen.
This is exactly what I've been studying recently. I plan to do do palatal expansion myself and possibly some other things. Braces can also give you spine and body alignment issues.
This reminds me alot of the stuff Dr Jack Kruse spoke touched on years ago on Vitamin K & D deficiencies and Periodontal disease. Will definitely be grabbing this book
30:00 Diabetics connection (don't use alcoholic mouth washes or antibacterial toothpaste) 37:10 link between plaque/tartar and heart disease and cardiovascular health 41:20 Evolutionary purpose of teeth beyond eating? 51:57 teeth grinding 53:50 sleep apnea and deep sleep 1:00:58 Personal questions
So interesting. I discovered vid this during my Holistic Nutrition Certification study. I have a very small mouth, narrow dental arches, had teeth extracted as a youngster to make more room, grind teeth and had chronic restless legs. Just bought the book and will be practicing nasal breathing deeply through the nose and see what improvements can be made.
That's so funny I was just learning about k1 and k2 last week, and now I came across it again with a video I found as my 3 year old wants to be doctor and I'm also really trying to teach her each day about tooth health (eating and cleaning habits) so she asks to watch him disease videos/cartoons ... And this video is a golden find! I also had teeth removed as a teen for space and have been conscious of occasionally mouth breathing habits the last few years. I only just stopped breast feeding so I really hope now she will have avoided all these issues and will now have a better chance of a good facial cranial position
Dr Lin is right upper airway resistance is under diagnosed. It took me 13 years until I was finally diagnosed with UARS. I was told I did not fit the profile for sleep apnea but upper airway resistance can hit even non obese thick neck people. What you want is a sleep study that calculates RERAs also known as respiratory effort related arousals. It basically means you wake yourself up before you have apnea and it’s just as bad as full blown apnea because you never reach deep stages of sleep from waking up every few minutes. That was the case for me. I was waking up 22 times per hour. Zero delta sleep. Horrendous. Sleeping on a raised bed or incline has helped reduce my UARS which can also help reduce mouth breathing. But ultimately doctors say the gold standard is cpap machine. And for mild cases an alternative is mouth device that pushes lower jaw forward
In just one year I have grown back my tooth enamel to normal, and 15 year old cavities are healing. D3 and K2, yep, it works. Also intermittent fasting.
I had crooked teeth as a child & wore braces. I keep my mouth closed during day. My upper jaw seems to big for my lips to cover it. I know that my mouth is open during night. I am worried that if I tape it that I will not wake up at all.
Thank you for another great interview Didn't expect to see butter as a good source of vitamin K2 for dental health btw Keto diet w/ grass-fed butter is great!
Dr. Lin touched briefly on UARS, adding that you may pass a sleep study because they're not looking for uars. He didn't elaborate on how to get a UARS DX. Please share what's the proper way to get that dx! Thank u!
He didn't put the book title in the notes here so I think it's this: Six-Foot Tiger, Three-Foot Cage: Take Charge of Your Health by Taking Charge of Your Mouth by Dr. Felix Liao
Great interview. Perfect follow-up to the interview with Dr Mark Burhenne. Who knew dental health is connected to so many other things 'downstream'! Dr Lin Can recessed gums be reversed?
Im an Aussie (a Sydneysider living in sunny qld hoot hoot) and love my kiwi organic butter, my candy. I never eat sugar........cheers Karen. Cant wait to read your book.
Great interview and guest Mike. Another occasion to learn a lot, thanks! I'm not very on his side about removing fruit, but it's a personal perspective. You talked a little bit about "biofilm" in the middle of the interview. It would be interesting to have an expert on this topic on High Intensity Health
Hi Lessard, yes the fruit removal is a temporary 2-week aspect of the program to help the body function without fructose. The challenge is that many people are flooded with it.
Loved the book! My dentist in Newcastle, Australia put me onto Dr Steven Lin after I was asking about links with nutrition and cavities. I have 4 kids and I focus on eating more plants and grass fed meats while cutting out dairy, grains and refined sugars. I found that cutting out dairy stopped my sons chronic ear infections. I also read somewhere that ear infections have a lot to do with the development of the soft palette. Does anyone know anything more on this?
Typical filters don't remove fluoride. I have a Durky filter with massive coal type filters for fluoride and it takes 24 hours just to get a few gallons out of it. If you're fluoride intolerant it makes everything taste like soap. I've read it can be deadly.
High Intensity Health I’ll definitely consider it, would just like to hear some cold hard facts about the fluoride thing there’s too many controversial ‘opinions’ on the matter on RU-vid and you seem to look at things very objectively and seem like a trustworthy source in this age of massive conflicting information overload 👍🏼😂 -thanks
I have a water distiller at work and one at home. They are better than filters. Fluoride is poison, next to arsenic on the periodic table, and was used as a pesticide in the early 1900s. Fluoride has never prevented tooth decay, it makes bones brittle in males, reacts with testosterone. It is added to our water to keep the masses controlled, passive, not so smart.
It just goes to show that oral health; is the first piece to healthcare program.... Dental coverage should be included in health insurance I've always felt this way..... Nice....episode....Peace
Thank you Jerry, we didn't mention it but that was the UNDERLYING message I'm trying to get out there. Without talking the politics, I think this is the single best way to fix our healthcare system.
Steven Lin, what is the least toxic alternative to amalgam/mercury bridges and crowns and also what is the least toxic alternative to replace pulled out teeth? Also, what cement/glue is the least toxic, to glue the crowns/bridges on the teeth? Thank you
I already watched a bunch of them. been trying the mouth shut teeth shut tongue on the roof of the mouth thing. I don't know how much difference that's going to make in opening up my airway long term. I don't sleep well at all and the cpap doesn't seem to improve it that much.
saraEstelle I used to think so. I was so convinced that I ignored all the signs that I was malnourished (this was NOT processed vegan). Do some research and don’t believe the poorly done China study. Use DuckDuckGo instead of google for your research though. I don’t remember where but I read a response to the China study years ago. Maybe you can find it. Mercola.com is usually good. Cure Tooth Decay was a good book! Oh and Orawellness.com is awesome for dental research!
Maybe because you're depriving your body of it's main fuel source - glucose - and it's not really a good long term strategy? What do you think a sugar craving is? You think it's a BAD thing?
Could it be a problem with leptin? I had read somewhere that after losing weight the fat cells shrink and so does their ability to produce leptin. So perhaps the way to deal with this is to focus on improving the leptin function. . Any thoughts on how that can be done apart from carb cycling?
What is "seebo" (not sure of the correct spelling), as in "seebo and constipation" referred to by the host sometime around 45:15? Thanks in advance . . .
LQQK...all these issues are really addressed by breastfeeding!!! I have crowded teeth and so does my husband so we had 2 babies and figured they would need to have all kinds of orthodontic corrections so they did not end up with ALLLL the problems their parents are experiencing now in our later life. ALL the problems you speak of and address here. So breastfeeding 3 years now they are so straight and needed NO problems, except a couple turns that our children saw as they were not perfect. We, just in ONE GENERATION fixed what we had "familiar defects" and all that they needed were to be breastfed which helped their jaws spread out and made ample room for all their teeth.
You have your work cut out for you, Steven, because conventional dentistry does not want to understand this stuff. Wrong ideas are institutionalized on purpose. Don't have 2-3 coffees a day - not good for you - affects your brain, hormones. Saturated fats are great!
Ive been exploring this area for a little while now as i have dental issues and have yet to try mouth taping; thanks for this, I'm very interested to see what Dr. Lin has written, I can recommend Seeking Health's Oral Pro-biotics (Ben Lynch) for innoculating the oral cavity with the good bugs. Other books I've read that are related to this topic are: Holistic dental care by Nadine Artemis and Ramiel Nagel's Cure Gum disease naturally, both are excellent and have changed my approach to oral hygiene. Thanks for excellent podcasts!
Amazing Melissa! Yes all of these books are a confluence area of 'functional Dentistry'. Check out '6 Ft tiger, 3 Ft Cage' By Dr. Liao too. Very detailed and more clinically focussed, but it's an eye-opener.
Eat nourishing food, breathe through your nose, and balance the oral microbiome. Then you can floss and brush with water or add a little baking soda or coconut oil depending on your preference.
I first do oil pulling than activated charcoal then brush my teeth with coconut oil. For charcoal, I use it like 3 times per week while oil pulling I do it daily
I love all of this information and look forward to finding a functional dentist near me! One note on the keto/intermittent fasting question - we need to be cognizant that women don't fare as well as men on these regimens. This one size fits all mentality has to be rethought. Kelly Brogan MD talks a bit about carbs here: kellybroganmd.com/high-carb-low-carb-no-carb/
LOLz. I know! I started off just wanting to look good in a bikini now I'm down the rabbit hole with the gut biome, mouth biome, etc. I'm already in my mid-30s and I'm just learning about these things now. So late to the party.
