if hendrix was an inspiration for the people to start to playing guitar back in the days, now, this must be an inspiration for the people to quit playing guitar... immediately, of course...
@@3shguitars819 I know right? I've never understood this kind of comment. I may be light years away from Guthrie, but watching him play inspires me to play and improve.
It's his brain dude. He sucks up music theory and just reads it like we read language. The fret are is just notes for him and not positions like for the rest of us.
I'm humbled by the fact that I've been lucky enough to catch a few of his lectures of about this size. It's truly jaw-dropping how talented this man is and the way he speaks about everything is just as entertaining as his playing. Absolutely a consummate professional.
At this point he has fused with the guitar itself. Every single pick, articulation, note choice, etc., comes natural and requires minimal thinking. I've seen a lot of good players but this guy is really something else.
Only Jimi became one with his guitar i.e. it was an extension of his body. I am hearing a lot of fast notes here and great left hand/right hand precision and control but something is missing for me. I do not "feel" this musical (think Wind Cries Mary and Little Wing) I just hear it....
He said in an interview his whole life he has had only the goal of being able to manifest the sounds he hears in his head. He just gained skill until he could flow and play his brain as the primary musical instrument.
They're showing the students from behind because their faces have all melted. Honestly, I don't think there is any guitar player that has ever lived that is better than Guthrie. Not to say that 'he's the best', whatever that even means, but damn... It just doesn't get better. He is playing a different game to the rest of us.
I found this video of this live performance of Ner Ner a while ago here on you tube and I've listened to it about 500 times. It always gives me chills down my spine! This guy is so incredible all his music does. I remember him in one of the guitar magazines many years ago ( can't remember which one ) in the hometown hero's section. Just so awesome I can't stop listening to him!
@@matt-770 i beg to differ, I think his creativity would be inspired or at the least the same. It's usually the lazy ones that lose inspiration after getting recognition, and Guthrie is anything but lazy.
Haha yes, I should have made sure to make my mark back when we got information from perusing bookstores and libraries. This digital age will locate every prodigy within days now, lol
I've been listening to amazing guitarists for a while, this guy is the GOAT. Feel, technique, musical vocabulary, philosophy and humour. Insane, just incredible. The musicality is there, so any music lover can enjoy this.
at 4 minutes is when it gets really good. i dont play the guitar -- i know nothing, formally, about music. but listening to him is incredible. i have all his records. he plays in a way that is energizing and relaxing all at once.
Wow
Yep.. always great to see Shawn mentioned as he was without a doubt the craziest player that ever lived..no one will ever play like he did but Guthrie brings something else to the table that no one has.
@@teeple1877. True Guthrie does has it all rhythm, dynamics, feel, technique, improvisation, speed . All in one.. In my opinion Shawn is indeed a myth but Guthrie is Godthrie 🙂
Electric guitar... Govan Holdsworth McLaughlin Metheny Shawn Lane... take your pick for 🐐...all answers acceptable. Next level just below would be Hendrix George Benson Schofield Connors Di Meola Stern Coryell
Dude throws riffs on top of a riff that's already in a riff on top of a solo that's already in a verse and then just when you think it's gonna be a chorus there's a solo with a riff and then the riffs just turn into the real solo And after that maybe a bridge with a little breakdown so we can all catch our beath before the main solo
Whenever I see GG playing guitar I believe I'm watching God just having fun with string instrument. Thank you for video so happy to see that he doing very well
I watched The Aristocrats (Boing - live) while cruising down an acid trip; was chillin in my bed, headphones on, & this XL iPad was big enough to draw me into the screen. All I was getting (in every psychedelic way you can think of) is that Guthrie Govan, Bryan Beller, & Marco Minnermann are the “gods” of their instruments, achieving a level beyond mastery: at unity. They are literally demi-gods (if you consider a “god of music” enveloping each instrument and style too) among us. There are the greats who are prrrrretty darn amazing at their art, but there is a clear distance between them combined and Guthrie alone. Another ridiculous demi-god that popped up a couple years ago is Harry Mack (Ultimate Freestyle Rapper / Poet / Improviser / Realtime Story Teller) … fuuuuuck, I’m baked 😶🌫️ … anyway, if you’ve read this far, thanks for holding on with my trip 😂 … Adios 🚀🔥💀☯️👻
Guthrie is (to me) on the top rankings of greatest and most advanced guitar players of all time PERIOD! Never EVER have I seen someone play like that before in my entire life!
Truelly remarkable player...flawless technique matched with imagination and adventurous out there atonal stuff always coming back to melody, astounding virtuosity...crikey,where to next??
There are at least a dozen guitar plays on YT that are stunning. Govan is certainly one of them. I'm not skilled enough to rank them, but he is a great one.
Govan's a genius. Think about it for a moment. What this guy does is so far off the grid that it has reinvented the grid. He may not want to be famous but he really does deserve it.
I don't think any other guitarist can touch Guthrie when it comes to technically advanced playing that is still deeply soulful and expressive. When he shreds it always sounds like he has something to say, not like he's just showing off chops.
There's a spiritual saying that says even if you're not practicing the instrument but if you are still considering and watching and learning, it can still be as if you were practicing the whole time!
He's got to be the best guitar player alive. He also has to be a prodigy when it comes to music. BTW, that clapping was so underwhelming compared to what was just played.
Shawn was good but not as accessible as Guthrie , but too many notes played for me with Shawn, but still very fluid. Good player. Guthries more versatile for me as well.
A prodigy? He can't write music though, he's more of a novelty act, a guitar nerd if you like. Enrich yourself, there are far more tasteful players out there.
