I think Guthrie Govan is a genius beyond guitar , music and other musicians. The way he speaks and usage of words or vocabulary is beyond the majority of us. I'd love to know this man personally too. Of coarse I would want to talk about and learn all the theory, and all that pertains to music, but also, I'd love to talk with him about other subjects as well. I'm sure his thinking or thoughts would be very interesting and deep.

Guitarist team (or Guthrie if you're watching :) 1st of all, thank you for this lesson. This series is one of the best pieces of guitar learning I've ever seen. Guthrie is an absolute joy to learn from. The man is absurdly talented. Not only at guitar and guitar education, but also at just generally being an outstanding human. Secondly - What amp was used for this lesson? Guthrie's clean tone on this is beautiful. I know the components of his guitar, and how his playing are influencing the sounds. So now trying to figure out what amp he was using to get that sweet, glassy tone.
@ipg616
@ipg616 8 лет назад
+Nethera6 it's a Victory, not sure of the model. They're a relatively new British amplifier manufacturer and their owner was previously a designer for another well known amp manufacturer, though I dont remember which
@Nethera6
@Nethera6 8 лет назад
+ipg616 - Thanks for the info there, I appreciate your response. I was thinking it was a likely a Victory, considering how tightly Guthrie's been integrated with Martin Kidd & Victory lately. I know Guthrie plays several models of Victory so I was hoping to pinpoint the exact model used here (or find out if it was possibly another brand/model). I know he's keen on the V30, V50, and V100. I can see a V40 in the background of the shot but it's not plugged in. So, it's obviously not that one :) As for Martin's previous well known manufacturer you mentioned, I believe it was the "Cornford" amp company.

1:47 Every single day bend all the strings with every finger. Pull or push one step and shake the hell out of it. Yes, that means unassisted pinky bends with vibrato. Do this whilst watching tv at night. Make it hurt and embrace the pain -it fades. In one month, you will sound better than anyone you personally know.
@puzzledcaveman5775
@puzzledcaveman5775 4 года назад
Came back here especially to thank you for your suggestion, I’ve been doing exactly what you said for 2 weeks and have drastically improved my playing. Indeed, the art of proper tasty bending is what defines the sound of electric guitar, so much work must be applied there. Thanks again!
@russwilson2305
@russwilson2305 4 года назад
@@puzzledcaveman5775 -Aww thanks! It really is transformative, huh? I wish it had occurred to me sooner -like 20 years sooner. I sometimes quit doing it for a month or two, and do other things. Its a mistake though, and I always pay for it. Now put in the same amount of time doing downwards bends w/ vibrato. A 2nd or 3rd fret D string full step bend w/ vibrato will be really difficult. We should be able to do the same thing in both directions.
@puzzledcaveman5775
@puzzledcaveman5775 4 года назад
Russ Wilson Very transformative indeed, from what you just said I guess I’m very lucky to be running into this 3 years after I started playing. I’m totally bent (haha) into working really hard in my first few frets bends, as that is where the painful challenge really resides. Not to mention that many other techniques like hammers and pull offs strongly benefit from the workout these bends provide.
@russwilson2305
@russwilson2305 4 года назад
@@puzzledcaveman5775 -Yup! Hammers and pull offs and bends. Throw in stretch exercises -this is the absolutely the fastest way fwd. Oops! I forgot to mention. Speed pick each string 4 min a day. Start w/ open string and move up the fret board, till you hit your highest fret. It gets harder to pick, the higher you go. You are gonna burn. I hate doing this, and I neglect it. But again -in one month, you will have a very noticeable improvement. This is not an opinion. It is a fact. Pebber Brown turned me on to this, and I hate him for it! There are two sides to guitar. Music, which is fun, and mechanics, which are hard won through pain. Luckily, mechanics can be drastically improved upon, in a 30 day period -at which point, they only require a fraction (1/4?) of the time, to maintain. Bends, hammers, pulls, stretches and picking. These cover most of the required muscle development. I will post later what one of the best stretch exercises entails. It's not as ugly as the picking and bending,... Well, I'm off to teach via Skype! Go kick some ass, senor.
@maverickdoe6984
@maverickdoe6984 8 лет назад
question for anyone that knows. When I'm bending up, for large bends, my finger tends to sort of grab the next string above it so that when I release the bend, it makes the string above it ring out undesirably. The only way I've found to sort of fix it is to try to mute that string with my palm, but it's not always easy to do. I'm wondering if there is something basically wrong with my bending technique.
