If you are trying to climb a mountain, you are not a struggler. You are a dreamer, like griffith, a struggler does not have a vision in mind, they simply take what is given to them, and no matter what the situation, overcome it. A struggler adapts to the world around them, and takes opportunities presented, not because it brings them closer to a goal, but because in that moment not taking it, would've simply put you in a worse position. A dreamer tries to adapt the world around them and create opportunities for themself or convert exisiting opportunities, into ones that lead to their vision of a future they desire. Dreamers try to control their situation and make it a good situation, Strugglers try to survive, no matter how bad the situation, and the worse the situations you've faced, the more capable and confident you will be, as you can look at any situation and think "I've survived worse". Strugglers purposefully put themselves into bad situations so that they can overcome them and become stronger and more confident from them. They are more afraid of becoming weak and reliant on good situations to survive, then they are of dying in the midst of a bad situation.

But that only lead to him abandoning the people he cared for, only for when he returned, to say "why do I never realize I have something, until i've lost it" Guts doesnt state at any point he dreams of casca getting her memories back, he simply states that he is going to protect her, because losing her would be too much for him. A struggler hopes and wishes for bad "outside factors" as to them, it is an opportunity to expand their boundaries, to know their capable of more then they were yesterday. When guts faced 100 men, he looked to his past and remembered he had fought zod, a far harder target, this gave him the confidence he needed to win.
